Review Freo Do It For Sonny In 13 Point Win Over Hok

While I mentioned the umpires sucked I have to give credit to the most satisfying part of the night, not getting sucked in by every second Hawk having a spontaneous neck seisure whenever they got tackled and refusing to give horseshit head high free kicks.

Suck a fat one Watson

I semi wanted to see Voss come in off the long run up and go in with one of his patented roundhouse arm swing tackles and watch a Hawks player drop to their knees and cop a full Voss impact.

Won 7 of the last 8 against these guys now
Its something I wish I could understand better or at least get an explanation from JL. Hawks and Brisbane play similar IMO and I feel very strongly that team for team we have matched up well on both sides during JLs reign. Even last year while Hawks were absolutely flying, we were a bees dick from getting the win in Tassie despite being undermanned. What is it about how we play that matches those two so well

The real highlight of the night was when Ryan absolutely clobbered Watson in the head when the little cheat tried to drop to his knees for a free out on the wing.

Kudos to both Ryan and the umpires for teaching him the lesson that his constant cheating has consequences.

The umpiring deserves a special mention with several absolutely ridiculous decisions both ways. Biggest negative of the game for mine.
Yes it was bad both ways . Inconsistent mostly

But that is what humans do

Just like the players are inconsistent and make errors

Club can’t change umpires performance ( well not directly) but we can change our players performance

Well done boys for winning

Now bring it fir 4 qtr and every game

I often laugh when reading the posts here, not because they funny , but because we don't realise just how biased we are in our thought and how that bias changes our perception of the world

Murphy is a star we believe, so we rarely see his mistakes or make excuses for them (it was rainy, it was presssure etc)

Banfield is a loser, so the good things he does (as much as most other players) we don't recall and only remember the 1000 things he does wrong( ok slight exaggeration)

JoM should never be picked we heard early in year. Wow look at his hardness he brings to the team we hear now.

Etc etc for whome ever you love or hate

Then we get our own forgetfulness.

Early in year so many calling for Switta to be not picked. Too many injuries ! then he plays a pivotal role we cant ignore, We love ya Switta

People we praising Dudley as the next perfect thing and to keep playing him, now we seem to be happy he is a sub.

And so on and so on

I sitll think Amiss should have been dropped. Yes he kicked some goals , well done. Justin thought he deserved the chance, it worked. it a call coaches have to make. I would have dropped him two or three matchesd ago for one or two Peel games. in the end the Coach decision worked. will justin get praise? no, the Justin haters will say "he nmakes too many mistakes"

People seem to think in 4th Qtr we used a differetn Plan B. No same plan it just worked better in the last.

Our plan is to a pressure side, tackling hard, not giving space when they have the ball, then running to space when we get it . Dont pass to packs. look for a lead. Kick the goal.

Now does that happen, NO. Sometimes that is caused by the opposition being pressure team and manning up, othertimes by our players who kick to a pack hoping our talls will mark.

In final Qtr, we did that , we created space, slowed game down when needed and sped it up when we could

We jsut need 4QTRS of effort from as many as possible.

After over 30 yrs i still no optimisic and not convinced we have the players with the mindset to win premierships. They have talent. That is for sure. Do they have that desire to win at all costs. every week. No Loss is acceptable (yes we will lose)

So lets go Freo. Play it hard, play to win,

You can do it agaisnt the best. so lets be the best

I think it might be down to me missing the last few Hawks home games for various reasons, but gee I'd genuinely forgotten just how detestable their supporter base is in person.

Abusing kids and parents, getting increasingly personal with us as we came back in the fourth quarter, "sit the **** down you old bitch" to one of the regulars who called them out.

Nothing wrong with a bit of chirp - it's all part of the fun and we often have away supporters in our block - but this was unhinged.

A week is a long time in footy.

Hawks looked to throw every effort they could at us for the first three quarters of the game even bringing in their sub during the third for more run.

Then completely ran out of puff in the last. Like breaking waves against the Fremantle seawall. The wall held and they couldn't maintain it.

Jackson on the offensive side of the bounce is interesting, his opponent ignored him and ran towards the rucks and that worked once, but a clean tap near him and he was away. Bolton was alone at the bounce too.

Amiss starting on the flank to be an extra fat side wing was also an interesting choice.

Season remains alive.

I quite enjoyed their umpiring coaching behind me, every free kick to hawthorn was clearly there and plenty that should have been given to the Hawks weren't, every freo kick was "ohh what for?!?""

Got quite in the last.

In terms of the game, that was just super-impressive all round to be honest.

I think there's moments from Johnson, Reid, Worner, Banners and a couple of others will all cringe at during the Monday review, but that's less about any individual failings and more about it being an genuinely intense game of footy. All of them stepped up in little moments late in the game as well that contributed to the win.

The challenge isn't playing perfect footy, it's finding a way to win under any circumstances, and I'm increasingly confident we can do that.

Horrid. Hope that woman was alright, there's kids sitting there & whatnots - what the hell is wrong with these types of people..?! They must live in a world of agonizing misery and then some. Truly baffling

Some people are getting carried away which is fine but to say we weren’t hanging on by our fingernails in that 1st half is complete bulls***t , Hawks have a great set of small fwds and even Chol plays more like an oversized small so of course they are a dangerous ground ball team

On a seperate note we need Switta and Freddy firing because half fwds seem to be becoming more and more important every week as the season goes on , get up into the midfield and then break through the lines to attack a scrambling defence or kick goals themselves

Seemed like there’s been a lot of HFF’ers having big influence on the outcomes of games the last few weeks

Complete bullshit? We thoroughly outplayed them in the 1st quarter. They scrounged a few goals from broken play in the second quarter and some Banfield mistakes. Then one after a poor non-mark call to Clark. Both teams were simply fighting out an even contest and the Hawks were fluking goals from what is an unsustainable method.

Kudos to Hwthorn for finding a way to score, but they were hardling carving us up. Hawthorn were not producing many good passages of flowing football. Hawthorn's transition from D50 to score and defensive half to score were the lowest of the round by a considerable margin (refer to the Wheelo ratings website), and would have been one of the lowest numbers of the season. Ours weren't super high either in a tough and scrappy game. But we had them well and truly strangled, and to say we were the ones hanging on is just plain wrong.

One name I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Wagner, just so reliable. Crazy how he’s gone from a fringe player to becoming one of our most important cogs over the last 8 weeks.

The biggest compliment I can pay to Wagner is he reminds me of one of those solid footballers at Geelong or Collingwood who you barely notice while they're developing, only for them to hit their mid 20's and you suddenly realise they just deliver a consummate professional, quality performance week in, week out.

Was this one or two supporters or a lot?

My experience with Hawks supporters generally are that they're an arrogant bunch, but rarely abusive. Tigers supporters are a completely different matter.
