Agree with you. We need to make this a staple.

The NSW and QLD teams get opening round. We need some trademark, marquee events like this.
Yes, this needs to be our most important home game each year. We should always play ANZAC day night, whatever day that falls, following the Essendon Collingwood game.

I'm starting to think that this Melbourne loss was a blessing in disguise, fortuitously ahead of this tough run we have. It came at an ideal time during which the players and coaching staff needed to get serious.

Similarly, Voss' suspension should be a wake-up call for his careless decision making and overall development. He has enormous potential, these three weeks watching from the sidelines should have given him a lot to think about. He will come back better and become a cult favourite.

It would be nice if Freo could put clubs to the sword more often. It only happens rarely. Most of our wins are typically us grimly defending an early lead at the end.

Maybe it is something in the psyche of a young team. The club needs to develop a ruthless hard edge. All the great teams have it.

Agree with you there.

There was a recent afl.com.au article that had us maybe second or third most difficult to beat in recent years when leading at three-quarter time. So, defending the lead might just be the way we go about things.

It was the best of Johnson worst of Johnson game.

Won some contested ball, great contested marking, evasive in the contest. Hit up Freddy on a nice lead.

Bombed it aimlessly, terrible and pointless handballing and decision making. That soccer off the ground was brainless.

If you don't back your coaches to iron out and fix those mistakes then you should just start tanking coz you aren't going anywhere. 15min review session job with the headcoach and midfield coach.

His size, evasiveness and burst is something we don't have. CB of Darcy young, LJ and MJ could be a nice mixup in bursts

Exactly, why would you take risks to attack and risk turning the ball over unnecessarily. The oppo are taking the risks to try and get back, just hurt them when they make the mistake..

Interesting to see the mix of opinions here.
I've watched the replay after feeling a bit rough today after some, uh, celebratory drinks.

Brayshaw was an absolute weapon, it was great to see him back to being so effective, including the ability to take space in close and shift would-be tacklers with a shimmy or a fake.

Clark and Worner both had great games I thought, the latter in particular has surprised me.

At the game I also thought Johnson had a pretty bad game, watching the replay tempered that a bit.
I was a bit flat after the last quarter, but re-watching it we really weren't that bad, should have had 3 goals minimum with the Dudley advantage, Reid's missed setshot in close and at least one of the Bolton misses.

Adelaide let us off with the setshot kicking, but we did play well, if we'd been a bit more clinical we could have really blown the game out but it was a good performance overall.

As a life member of The Glass Half Full Club (GHFuC) I salute you Gimme!
Whats your take on Jacksons injury??
and The Chad's teasing?
etc

When he came to the club, Jackson took about half a season to click and has just kept improving. He doesn't stay down for very long and isn't hampered by injury, his body is resilient - if anything he just gets more hungry after a spell. He'll come back at full force next week.

Despite their loss against Brisbane today, the Saints played a hard, physical game until the whistle and our midfield will need to be switched on for all four quarters so Jackson's inclusion is timely.

Regarding Chad - I'm not phased at him not coming to Freo. He would be too expensive and we have the players we need. Driz will keep improving and be the outside, attacking mid along with Youngey. So, we have the depth, we just need to go all in on Kozzie and bamn.. We have a premiership team locked in.

Also we are 11-0 under Longmuir when kicking 5 goals or more in the first quarter which shows we need to start fast which doesn't happen often.

I am all for the intensity that Vossy brings, he seems to get the Dockers up and going ( great to watch) but OMac is a genuinely smart footballer whose game was better tonight than any Voss has played ( especially in the ruck). Good problem to have I guess.
This is why I would keep Omac in as the third tall and move Jackson on-ball. It gives Voss a chance to work on his kicking at contested marking at Peel.

He's tracking just fine. Another 20-30 games and he'll be irreplaceable.
I struggle to see this as a meaningful comparison. Mundy was playing across half back at this point in his career. Mundy was always a beautiful kick and always had class written all over him. He looked to struggle with intensity and getting enough of the ball. He began his transition to midfield under Mark Harvey and it was a longish and painful process. He came of age as an elite midfielder in the final against Hawthorn in 2010, which he dominated.

Matthew Johnson struggles with decision making and class imho. He did some nice things yesterday getting the ball, but was fairly horrible disposing of it.

He doesn’t seem to have a footy brain. Every player has weaknesses though and if he had the smarts of Murphy Reid to go along with his weapons, he’d be unstoppable.

I think he can improve, but don’t think he’s getting higher than B grade level because of it. Even without the footy, he approached a defensive contest in the last quarter, lost his man and picked up another which left one goal side for an easy goal.

Crows bloke gets a week for the punch on Brayshaw....You know the one the commentary team said "didnt have anything much in it".
Same as Tex pushing Pearce square in the back. Pav said it’s not two actions so it’s ok, wtf is this new rule?
