Freo Dockers in 2000!

I don't get why Freo is the favourite for the wooden spoon this year! Surely the Pies and Melbourne would
be considered worse chances to make the 8! I mean yeah they had a bad year last year but you have to
give them a while to adjust to Drum's style of play especially after Neesham. Freo picked up some top
players in trading, in particular Brendon Fewster and Troy Cook, and also got some very good young
talent with their draft picks. Now that Drum has gotten rid of the mediocre players from their list I believe
Freo could be the big improvers of 2000. With Kickett and Parker up the back, Fletcher and Bandy in the
middle and Fewster and Modra up forward watch out for Freo in 2000!
I would be interested to hear any responses about my views as well!

The Dockers are probably doing as well as the established teams hoped they would. Some teams like St Kilda and the Bulldogs, who have only ever won one flag, and others like Geelong and Richmond who haven't won a flag for decades would be happy to see a new team stuggle for a few years.

Freo's problem is that Port Adelaide's successful progress in the AFL makes the Dockers look bad by comparison.

I doubt that Freo will come last - like you, I reckon it will be between Melbourne and Collingwood, with maybe Geelong having a poor year. However, I don't expect much significant improvement by the Dockers because they're pretty much starting from square one again after last year's clean-out.

I'm obviously not a Dockers fan, but I actually hope they do well this year (but not too well!). I agree they've picked up a few good recruits, but they have yet to see how well they settle into the game plan.
An increase in the professionalism of the club both on and off field, can only improve the on-field performance. This seems to be the main difference between the two WA teams. Once they get their own facilities, I think the team will play more consistantly- the Dockers main problem as I see it.

Eagles v Dockers - 2000GF
I'D LIKE TO SEE THAT!

I despise the Dockers and their supporters. How stable can a football club be having traitors as their supporters. These people where happy to jump on the bandwagon when the Eagles were Premiers but as soon as their is a new kid on the block they abandon the club that paved the way for AFL football in West Australia. The Dockers pale against the Might of the West Coast Eagles. When the Dockers can say that they have won 2 premierships in their first 5 years in the comp then maybe they will be shown some respect.

I can understand Fremantle people (eg followers of the Bulldogs and Sharks)changing to the Dockers when they formed. And if they have stuck with them after 5 years of humiliation then they must be true blue supporters!

I moved from SA to WA in 1984 and started following West Coast when they joined the (then) VFL and even when the Adelaide Crows joined in 1991. But I've always been a Port Adelaide supporter and when they joined the AFL in 1997 the Eagles were relegated to my 'second' team.

The situation here with the Dockers is similar I imagine for Fremantle people, although many of the Eagles stars have been Fremantle boys, which may have kept some people loyal to the Eagles.

With the Dockers fantastic win in the last Derby, I hope there will now be the fierce rivalry between the two WA clubs that you have in South Australia. I'm sure the Eagles will be wanting revenge, and with Ken Judge now coaching WCE, they will have some added incentive!

i get the feeling that the dockers have a group of young players who are just stoked to play AFL football, rather than wanting to be real AFL heavyweights. They like all the adulation that comes with being an AFL footballer,in a 2 team town, but the actual passion is lacking somewhat.
Im no big dockers fan so i really dont care how they do. but i'll be very surprised to see 'em make the top 10.

I too hope Freo can turn it around in 2000.

As an old Fitzroy supporter, I will never forget the effort Freo went to in comemorating Fitzroy's last ever game, after Oakley's AFL did NOTHING. The lady singing "Auld Lang Syne" brought a tear to my eye.

It was wonderful to see a team still building its tradition recognise another team rich in tradition.

Nice one Dockers. Give 'em hell in 2000! (Except for the mighty Brisbane Lions, of course!) :)

It could be a good year for Freo, the flag might be a bit hopeful, but I think they have a chance of getting into the finals.

Well you finally made it! And still you can't win a final!

FWIW, Melbourne made the GF that year! I wish you did my footy tips!
