Still trying to process that no excuse effort.

Can we just let go of our pride to sneak wins and just rest those who need to be rested and play those who need to be playing.

Thank you.

Absolute garbage "effort" if you could call it that.

First quarter continues to be garbage and I am convinced that it is a coaching problem
Skills were garbage.
Structure was non-existent as far as I could tell.
Why did we let Collingwood rack up uncontested possession after uncontested possession?
Exiting the defensive 50 was pathetic.
Our tall forwards were non-entities most of the day.
Entering the forward 50 was crap.......lower the eyes for goodness sake.

Positives:

The game is over.
We didn't get blown out.
We can forget that rubbish and move onto next week.

Yeah it was s**t. I think everyone expected us to come back from Adelaide as we did last time and put in a rousing win and go on to win a whole bunch of games to see us comfortably playing finals by Rd 23.

Fact is we're rebuilding. Still some chess pieces to be moved off the board, and others to be put in their place from - within the list, and also some work to do to bring in players who can do a better job than Taberner did today. Worrying thing is that the 'jewel in our crown' that is our talisman, is 34 years old, and one of the pieces soon to be removed from the board.

We'll lose a lot more like this over the next year or two. It was s**t, but I ain't bovvered. (Well I'm a little bit bovvered, but I'm trying to perspectify).

At least we lost by less than last week??

Seriously though, some very poor tackling efforts, and no structure or shape to our gameplan for much of the game.
All part of sorting through the fringers on the list I guess (you'd think Sutcliffe and Tabs in particular blew chances to really impress).

Also don't understand why they wait so long to put Mundy in the middle.

I hope S Hill and Fyfe are ok, both looked hurt for most of the last quarter.
If they are hurt rest them from the Brisbane trip, instead of risking further injury...

Pathetic game. The so called freo faithful were pretty unsupportive as well. The collingwood army killed us.

Midfield wins games and we didn't get the clearances.

I want mccarthy dropped for next week. Ive made that blatantly clear in the changes thread.

Its curtains for griff and tabs. Bring on the youth.

Too much left to too few.

Smashed in the rucks, our mids can not handle it with out Sandi.

We are in the middle of a rebuild, we have no depth.

Fyfe needs a rest, let's hope we have learnt.

Pretty lucky to have been as close as we were to stealing that one and yet I'm still disappointed we weren't able to capitalize in that last quarter to bring it home.

Collingwood picked us apart today. They set the standard for pressure and we never really matched them. They were able to change the pace of the game very well too to work through our zone.

Collingwood simply ran more, went into the contests harder and, I hate to say this, were coached better. Also the number of times they were able to dispose of the ball while wrapped up by one or two of our players was unforgivable.

Forwards were really poor today. Crozier really not getting into the game enough. Spoiling and getting in the way of each other- Kersten especially. McCarthy isn't doing well, suffers for going missing.

Suddenly after the game against Essendon the forward line isn't working. All out of form, as bad as each other.

The scoreboard was a little flattering to us. About 8 of those points kicked by Collingwood should have been goals.

The main difference I can spot from when we were playing some nice footy a few weeks ago (apart from Sandi being out) is the poor form of Fyfe, Hill and Mundy. Without those guys creating and the later 2 kicking it to our forwards our ability to score is curtailed.
Taberner looked a million bucks for a couple of weeks, taking strong marks. Don't know what happens to him from week to week.

I agree about the scoreboard being flattering to us, but at the same time it was almost like the Pies never really got too upset by any miss, because they knew that they would lock it in and just get another (and then another, and another) shot at goal because we couldn't clear it from the kick-ins. Almost like a seven point play.

What a difference when the game was on the line in the last, and they had the kick in, they give it to Dunn and boom, 60 metre roost well out of the danger zone.

Why do we consistently look so rubbish at kickins?
It is one of the few areas in the modern pacey game where we should be able to turn to a pre-determined kick in specialist and deploy a set, structured play to maintain possession or at least get the ball outside the 50 zone. Yet we seem to let anyone take it, and no-one ever seems to know what is coming (or where it is going)...

The positive is that so many of our players played so poorly yet but for a few catastrophic errors in the last quarter we could have snatched the win.

It's probably a blight on Collingwood that they didn't win by a lot more. Other than Treloar and Pendlebury nothing really impressed me about them. We were complete ratshit and they struggled to put us away.

7 touches is not enough. Needs to do more, the 5 frees against did not help either.

What??

If you want to go off stats, what about the 22 pressure acts (most in the side), 6 tackles (second most in the side), oh and the 2.2 (or over 16% of our goals for the day).
All from less than 90 minutes on the ground.

We had many poor players who were far far worse than Grey.

This x 1000....

Lyon may well like to play with his whiteboard and magnets before the end of each quarter but he was simply out coached and failed to impact on his players during the breaks. Collingwood's ability to get the ball out of their backline with such ease and use short kicks to cut through our defence throughout the entire match, showed Lyon either wasn't paying attention or didn't care.

The game plan doesn't work because week after week the same mistakes are made. The torture of getting the ball out of defence was made worse by the majority of players simply not chasing/running/leading or manning up to their assigned player.

As for tackling, Brad Hill's one arm half hearted slings should be grounds for him being dropped to set an example along with Sutcliffe for kicking directly to the opposition whilst under little or no pressure.

S Hill and Fyfe are clearly not fit and shouldn't be playing. Team confidence is way down again and game play/style is almost back to round 2 levels.
