The AFL Player Ratings are not Champion Data per say, they are some made up hokey pokey. The Supercoach platform uses the Champion Data system, what was Brad Hill's score in Supercoach?
There was another bizarre example of some highly rated player still in the AFL Player Ratings the other week that had no business being there.

Yeah noticed I wrote ratings not fantasy immediately after posting it. I couldn't be bothered editing it :) The algorithms aren't that dissimilar (not to this much of a discrepancy anyway). Will wait for Champion Data to respond. He only had 3 turn overs so they've clearly stuffed up in this instance.

Yeah, I got that. What I meant was an explanation of how they are calculated - i.e. what factors led to Hill having such a poor rating. I'm not having a go at you as I know you are just posting it for information, but it doesn't equate to what any of us saw on the field.

According to that Hill was out third worst player!

I didn't post it, but I did see his disposal efficiency was only 65%, that would be part of the reason.

I suggest you read this if you want to know why. My guess he also turned the ball over a few times which lead to the opposition scoring.

Which on-field acts contribute to a player's score?
Every time a player is involved in a passage of play he has the chance to accrue points. But rather than his score being a simple tally of his possessions, marks, tackles, hit-outs, free-kicks and scores, his performance is measured using a system called Equity Ratings. The system determines where and how a player influences a contest and whether the player's effort then results in a positive result for his team. Equity Ratings includes what coaches love to describe as "pressure acts". As a result, players are rewarded for interrupting opposition passages of play as well as setting up scores for their own team.

Players who consistently produce positive contributions are rewarded more highly than players with a high volume of stats. As an example, a 20-disposal game by Cyril Rioli, where 17 disposals are positive and only one is negative, can have the same impact as a 40-disposal game by Dane Swan, where 25 are positive and nine are negative.

Can players lose points during games?
Yes. Players can receive a negative score in a number of ways, including when they give away free kicks and also when they turn the ball over. A turnover that results in an opposition score results in the largest negative score.

They've made a mistake, it just doesn't add up.

BHill -> 62.2% x 37 disposals = 23 effective disposals. He had just 3 turn overs, 13 pressure acts, 13 score involvements.

Taberner -> 66.7% x 18 disposals = 12 effective disposals. He had 5 turn overs, 6 pressure acts, 10 score involvements.

Now I'm sure 7 contested marks gets some massive ratings but when you look at all the stats (eg Brad had 6 inside 50s, 2 r50s) and compare him to our other players it makes no sense. Maybe they put his last quarter as a negative instead of a positive or something stupid like that?

The system doesn't reward uncontested possessions.
10 disposals with +0.5 or better = net +10.5 points
20 disposals within 0.5 either way = net +0.6 points
8 disposals with -0.5 or worse = net -6.8 points

-1.3 for fumbling the ball under no pressure at the top of the arc.
 
So a player runs his butt off to get separation to take uncontested possessions and isn't rewarded by the Offical AFL Player Ratings system.

We love you Brad even if Champion Data doesn't :)

So basically the ratings don't capture one of the major ways a player can impact the game? #flawed
 
During the Game one of the ABC radio commentators mentioned that a Docker had signed a one year contract extension?

I'm almost positive they were talking about Mr Mundy. They mentioned that it had been kept quiet - anyone else hear anything, or was I totally making it up?

Mundy has triggered a clause in his contract for an extra year due to hitting his required KPIs, there was an article that came out a couple of weeks back. Nothing official announced from the club, though.

Yes, I believe he was the third tall and that's where he should excel provided he keeps a high work rate, has a great ability to get to the right spots and present. I am surprised with some of the 1%'ers he is providing didn't think he was that type of player.

and almost completely false too. As an ex-copper I can clarify some mistruths. I worked at Morley station before transferring to Midland and went from flat out all the time at Morley to bored out of my mind 90% of the time at Midland. Mirrabooka, Cannington and Warwick districts have far worse crime rates than Midland...and no it's not because the criminals come from there. They were far fewer crooks in Midland district than the other districts.

Enjoy Brad Hill, nice player and sorely missed. Great to watch his run hey!

I was looking at fanfooty stats for the game and it said that Walters was switched into the midfield after halftime. Was he a bit of a game changer in there?
I love watching his silky skills but it would be awesome if becomes a midfielder, do you think he will stay in the mids?
