Simmonds is probably the best tap ruckman going around

Sorry, missed that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Modest in victory, gracious in defeat?

Fixating on Croad just means you haven't thought about Farmer, Waterhouse or Longmuir. You have to admit that Trent Carroll is going to have a hard time.

The Fremantle midfield is weak but their disposal to the forwardline doesn't have to be pinpoint. There will be at least two talls making the contest and the best crumber/opportunist in the comp waiting for the spoils.

This whole thread reeks of fear - which is weird. I was backing the West Coasters but if you people aren't all that confident, I might change my mind.

Thought I got away with the Simmonds wrap, too. Ah well. I take it back.

Possibly Clive may run through Croad, though.

I'm sure we could convince a few of our old hack defenders to take those jobs, it's not like we'd be asking much of them

Between McIntosh, Jakovich, Glass, Gaspar, Wirrpunda, Read, Carroll, Collica and Morrison, I'm sure we'll find someone who wants the jobs. And geez, maybe even Michael Prior, who I barely know a thing about thanks to his knee...

What would Other Matera be doing in our backline??? :D

When I initially read that list I thought, "Yeah, not bad. Collica's got a bit of toe. Jako's as tough as they come and an undisputed champion of the game (though well past his prime). Wirrpunda is a genius whom I have nothing but respect and admiration for" - I could go on. You know how good or otherwise these blokes are - better than I.

But you can't play all ten of them down there though, surely?

Just taking the quartet of Longmuir (FF), Croad (CHF), Waterhouse and Farmer (HFF), who of the West Coast ten would you go with.

Seriously.

Let's not start another 'who will play on him' argument.

We've already been through it many....many....many times.

Even I'm bored of it. And that's saying something.

OK...well, I doubt it will be so simple as this in terms of in-game matchups, but for simplicity's sake:

Farmer - Wirrpunda, obviously. Might even be interesting to stick Collica or Read on him and release 'Punda upfield at times.

Longmuir/Croad - best case scenario says Longmuir will be forced into the ruck to combat Gardiner, but assuming he sticks at FF I would obviously go for a match-fit McIntosh. And again, assuming Croad remains at CHF, Jakovich. These two could be rotated with Gaspar and maybe Glass to keep the pressure up.

Waterhouse - such a question mark in his performance...Carroll? Prior? Whoever's not on Longmuir/Croad? Depends on the impact he makes early on.

Longmuir - (providing he isnt forced into the ruck) Glass or a fit McIntosh should be played on him.

Farmer - Read or Morrison, Wirrpunda i like roaming in defence or on a wing.

Waterhouse - (if he is ever fit??) Collica, just as athletic and quick.

Croad - Jakovich and Gaspar rotate on him. Matera is a possibility..

Cant wait for round 1.

Longmuir will Ruck or they wont get the ball to their forward line

Croad.......Jako

Waterhouse.......Williams or Embley to crunch him

Farmer (if not in midfield) Read to stretcher him off. Ready still remembers his las game against Freo.

A couple of match-ups that have been mentioned just shouldn't happen.

Farmer v's Morrison:
Well Morrison won't be playing anyway, but even if he was, Farmer would tear him to shreads. Chad isn't acountable, and hates actually having an opponent.
Wirra, Read, Williams or Collica are much better options.

Croad v's Jako:
Croad is an athlete. He'd run Jako all over the park, and Jako wouldn't be able to keep up. That's not a criticism of Jak, Croad just isn't the right match-up for him.

Waterhouse v's Collica:
Waterhouse was about to kill Collica in the Round.4 game last year. I'd perfer Glass or Carroll.

Jako was slow when carrying an injury but sure gave Pavlich a bath in the second win over Freo, and if he can stick with Pav then I reckon he will keep Croad quiet.

But there is a good chance Pav will play CHF and Croad FF and then Milli or Glass will account for him.

Pavlich and Croad are very different players.

Pav isn't as athletic as Croad, or nearly as quick. Which is why Jako always kicks his a$$.

That doesn't mean Croad is a better player than Jako (or even Pavlich for that matter), it just means he's a different sort of player.
