Review Freo storm home against North

Yeah that's okay except the coach said last season his #1 priority was to fix the slow starts, and it didn't happen. So I don't think internally they want it or are satisfied by it. It will cost us games if we don't fix it
Weirdly we've improved everywhere else though. Like you I'll forgive them this week. 6-day break, early start and injuries destroyed our rotations last week.
Just something about piling on a bunch of goals in a short amount of time against Norf at the dome
its Hard To Beat

Its like it takes Freo 30 minutes to get their heads in the game. Youngs repeated transgressions in the first quarter against Brizvegas which he then tidied up. Hughes` terrible three clangers in the first quarter in the same game, which he then tidied up. Freddy cant lay a tackle in the first halves, just runs around like a headless chook and then finally settles somewhat, JT goes in to the ruck and gives away a high tackle, Clarke gives away a high tackle - they just dont seem to be focused early on. Its like they are all playing their first games but it happens every game.

It has to be mental.

Maybe the Brisbane game was just first game cobwebs and the North game was travel, 6 day break and early start. But a 6 day break really doesnt make sense given we ran over the top of both teams in the end.

Optus, Friday night, no excuses. There should be little or no changes to the playing list, they get to sleep in their own beds. They know the score. Play like the third quarter from the opening bell and we can make it 3 and Owen.

I think the supporters need to put a $500 bounty on the first great team lifting act. It seems like that moment triggers the rest of the team to lift and we could do with that amazing run down tackle or smother in the first minute of play.

That Switkowski run down smother against Brisbane - they barely touched it after that.

I'll keep an eye out what I watch the replay today but I have a sneaky feeling that Switta is the catalyst again against North.

He won't like it but if he is ever not in the side we are going to have to throw him off the 3rd level to smother a kick on the wing to get the team going.
Something tells me that Sam would be perfectly content with that.

"Don't mind me JL, just doing my part."

The social media team will have an easy time copying the faces of some of our big men onto that scene from Wolf of Wall Street where they throw the little person at the velcro dart board.

Who plays DiCaprio though, doubt they have much stock footage of JL with an angry face.

Feel like as a young team we seem to be waiting for something to happen in game before we get into gear.

Last week it was Swittas smother, this week I don’t think there was a single defining moment? I do remember Switta chasing down LDU and forcing a turnover so maybe that was it.

We gotta grow out of it because it will cost us games

To me, the moment where the tide kinda turned was Brayshaw's fantastic defensive efforts a bit later than midway through the 2nd, especially in smothering a few kicks (admittedly, in those moments he was kinda cleaning up his own mess through poor disposal/giving away a holding the ball free).

Our one wood is centre square work. It worked beautifully against Brisbane who were missing Lachie Neale and aren’t centre square specialists. We absolutely belted them out of the middle.

LDU finds another leg against us. Ex team mate of Brayshaw from high school? Not sure why, but our mids go to water against him.

Anyone who would pass up Chad Warner because our midfield is “set” has no idea.

Johnson, Erasmus, Fyfe, Aish, JOM aren’t fit to be in the rotation long term.

Erasmus and Johnson might get there. Fyfe when fit still has it. Aish and JOM never had it.

Serong and Brayshaw are elite. Young is close. We need more quality to roll through the middle.
Fyfe had a better game than young last game i thought? Young speeding up reactions just 2-5% will make a world of difference to his stats - with the great news being this is v v likely to happen over the year👍

That's what I loved about Brayshaw's game tbh. He would make mistakes but then he would go extra hard to force the turnover within the next couple posessions.

For mine, that should've been Treacy's long chase up the middle and lunge to affect his oppo's attempted kick inside 50. Was early-ish in the 1st and was incredible effort. Unfortunately, the rest of the team wasn't quite ready to be lifted at that point, and we had to wait until those Brayshaw moments in the second.

we had to deal with daylight savings, along with the short break and flight

I was worried for Trace after that. Looks like he got a stinger but his left arm was at full stretch when he whacked that bloke and I feared he'd hyper-extended the shoulder.

Great game from him. Really, really good.

His ability to positively affect the match with little or no possessions is extraordinary.

I'd love to coach the bloke.

I was just reading about Clarkson's whinge about the umpiring. Maybe we should slow the game right down and review every free-kick decision. They got some pretty strange ones in the first half.

Wouldn't you just. First picked for mine. Not very many >190cm blokes are running around at the speed he does, smashing packs, tackling, getting a hand (or fist) in when he can and just affecting every contest he is near. Massive effort.

If Dogga Jackson wasn't compiling one of the most compelling highlight reels of the modern era, we'd all be talking about Trace.

I didn't think I'd see player ratings takes that would make me yearn for Peter Sumich, but Sharp "had such low metres gained" is a new one. 4th for Freo with 428, and that's with just 13 touches (if anything, that's the aspect I'd be critical of, coupled with his Telstra Tracking numbers being good but not as good as round 1).

Also pointing out that Walker was "strong in the contest" was bizarre. Walker was a liability defensively, but gave good run when he had the ball. He was not strong in the contest at all.
