Freo to do a Port2000?

Hey, just imagine if Freo do a Port 2000 and don't actually get the spoon after being expected to for most of the season. Port's tail wagged quite ferociously late last season (remember Burgoyne's kick after the siren vs. Carlton? (rd. 21)), they got their ar5e off the bottom, and gave us a foretaste of this year's blinding form in the process. Something changed at Alberton after that Carlton match (and they walloped Adelaide the very next round--Hmm Freo vs. WCE next week ). Could the same happen with Port's wharfie cousins, or am I getting too far ahead of myself?

Can't agree with you lionel. The thing you have to remember is Port might of had a bad start to season 2000 but they were a finals team in 1999. Freo has never ever come close to making the finals and I believe it still will a few years before they actually will make the finals.

You're probably right about them not playing finals anytime soon. But is there any chance of them avoiding the spoon? Just imagine, after the whole saga this year they somehow managed to avoid the dreaded spoon!

Actually carb,

If Freo would have beaten Melbourne (then wooden spooners) in the last game of the 1997 season they would have finished 8th.

Yeah I was about to say that. I knew Freo came close one year. They haven't got the worst percentage, considering their lack of wins, they've come agonisingly close to winning a few times..........I think they'll probably still finish on the bottom, but I do think they'll probably win another one. It'd be good to see too, give them a little momentum to get out there and prepare really well for the 2002 season and who knows.

Not sure why they cant.Realistically our rise wont be as rapid as that of Ports.But top 8 shouldnt be out of the question.

Pavlich,Brown,Haselby,Black and Longmuir can only get better.
A new coach should be able to install discipline and with any luck we can draft a decent player.

Micheal and Waterhouse will be back, and Bell as captain, it can only get better RAPIDLY.

A couple of differences - Port didn't turn it all around with that round 21 win over Carlton, their resurgence came well before that. After round 12, Port were 1-1-10 and bottom of the ladder. They won 6 of the next 10 games to finish ahead of Collingwood and St Kilda and level on points with West Coast.

Also, Port held their nerve and didn't sack the coach, and they didn't even have a big clean out of players at the end of the year. They gave up their first draft pick (no. 4) to get Darryl Wakelin and picked up about 4 players in the draft. I don't think they even participated in the pre-season draft. Injury prone players such as Cockatoo-Collins and Bond were kept on the list when many were calling for them to be delisted.

In other words the club showed faith in the coach and players and now it looks like paying dividends. Who knows where Fremantle Football Club would be now if they had done the same in the past - one thing's for sure, they couldn't have done much worse.

I wouldn't be getting carried away with finals talks for next year - it's only ONE win out of 17. Port did come back strongly last year and won a few games in succession.

Sabre one thing you have to understand is, all 16 teams have quality players.....not just freo

Your team are a bunch of hacks....your ladder position shows that, so does your club.

Ahh QT I have ignored your last freo bashing posts.But I think its time to put the record straight.

Take Pavlich for example, Crows currently are throwing enormous amounts of money at him to entice him home.This recruitment drive would rival the one we put up for Peter Bell.Sadly for you he is very happy at the club despite your clubs efforts.

Longmuir,Brown,Pavlich,Mc Phee all 6 foot plus under 21 players, ranked in the top 20 youngsters in the league.All 16 clubs would kill for kids of this quality.

Throw in Black,Haselby,Walker,Bell,Waterhouse,Parker for good measure and you have the makings of a very strong side for the future.All players that would be walk up starts in any side.

Now now QT surely your not comparing the Crows to Port,they arnt even in the same league.

Sabre - remember...as freo improve, so do most other teams in teh competition as well!
West Coast can only get better...St Kilda can only get better, Adelaide can only get better.

Fremantle arent the only team that is gonna improve and have players back from injuries.
Port when we get French, Lade and Bondy back from injury for example will be a lot better than what we are now.

HAHA Parker...HAHA why dont you throw in Eastaugh there too

Parker WOULD NOT get a walk up start in the Port side....he would only get a game if our main defendesr get injured. Nor would he get a game at Essendon, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Carlton.

Crows have no Under 21 key Possie players. Your wrong for a start.
Stenglien, Perrie, Mcgregor, Hewitt is 22.

Port dont have many Under 21 key Possie players either, Yet we are third at the moment!!! We have plenty of 21/23 year olds that are dominating at the moment

Our best under 21 players:
Ackland, Carr, Guerra, D Murray, Nick Stevens, K Cornes

They are just as good as Freos

Our 21-22-23 year olds:
Bassett, Burgoyne,C Cornes, Tredrea, Dew, Harwood, Lockwood, Poulton

thats a top group of youngsters.
