I think considering he also talked about our bubble being burst, and Ratts saying "it was the loss we had to have because we've gotten ahead of ourselves" means grain of salt, at best.

Most of those players probably played.

Those players mentioned flew to SA. Those we left at home were:

Matthew Pavlich
Peter Bell
Luke McPharlin
Josh Carr
Heath Black
Dean Solomon
Scott Thornton
Robert Warnock
Mark Johnson
Shaun McManus
Andrew Browne
Andrew Foster
Luke Webster
Brock O'Brien
Calib Mourish (R)
Ryley Dunn (R)

EDIT: The above players weren't named in the 28 man squad. Though looking through the photo's someone with Luke Websters number is standing at Sandilands feet after taking a mark. Probably Luke Webster.

So bee dee almost got the result right at least, so credit there. Shame most of the rest was fabrication.

Ratten saying it was the loss we had to have as the club has been getting ahead of itself. It has brought us back to Earth!!!!

"Carlton coach Brett Ratten said taking off some of his more credentialed players had disrupted the line-up – although he did see some positives.

“I think when we did have a more experienced team out there we showed that we could move the ball with a lot more precision,” he said.
“I think we got a little bit destructured in the second half with the young kids that came on, but that’s what it was about for us – the experience that each player would get.” "

Carlton used 30 players and Freo 22.

Each team was allowed to play a maximum of 32 players and both coaches made the most of the opportunity to experiment and blood some of their younger players, swinging the changes at half time.

Mayne 3 goals

Goals Fremantle – Crowley 2 Headland 2 Mayne 2 Mundy 2 Gilmore Murphy Tarrant

best Headland,Haselby,Tarrant,Schammar,Crowley and Palmer

Likewise, Fremantle’s highly-touted draft pick Rhys Palmer didn’t have a huge game, but it wasn’t a night for big possession winners.

Result is a non-issue - given both sides fielded were well below par, the number of interchange players and only 16 men on the field - however, what is noteworthy is the best for Carlton. Very pleased to see Hampson play well, and particularly pleased with Hartlett's 3 goals - although it was a nothing match, his attack on the ball last year when given a chance at AFL level was impressive. Given our almost non-existent CHF options, I'm hoping Harts can have an extended run without injury and be given a chance at CHF.

Indeed, it is encouraging. But we can't expect too much of him, long way to go yet. But if he can get it right it would solve one of our big problems.

Same with the ruck. Good to hear Hampson among our best, especially given he was playing on two more experienced opponents, Sandilands and Bradley.

Happy to hear that Stevens got through without incident also, even though he sat out the 2nd half.

The few things I was hoping for came about. They are Hampson,Hartlett and Edwards showing a bit and no injuries.A bit of a surprise was that Stevens had a run.

Young DA slips into the navy blue strip very nicely.

Doubt that he would have played.
I'm more interested in seeing how Murphy did, apparently best on field for us.

Pretty good signs.
