Showed some blistering pace around the ground and 2 of his set shots were kicked easily from right on the paint. Really makes a difference to our forward setup.
Harvey said in the presser that today was our forward setup looking like he wants it with Des, Mayne, Elvis. I'm impressed, so much more variety than the old kick it to Pav days.

That passage of play were he ran onto the ball inside the 50 at full speed was a real eye opener. I didn't realise he was that fast. Also his run down of I think it was lovett in the centre of the ground to get the free was excellent. He is showing a little bit more every game and will be a great contributor. Still has to get rid of a few of his WAFL tricks that don't work at this level but he looks like another great pick up and starting to see why he went at 21. I don't think that was an dodgey decision now.

By the way, love the new avatar E Shed. Go, the Pig of Steel.

It was Alwyn Davey. They look to be about the same speed. Didn't realise Ballantyne was that fast.

I like his grunt, niggle and his swagger. Likes the rough stuff :D
Won't be too long before he is hated by the opposition supporters...
We've certainly got a keeper with Ballantyne:thumbsu:

He's a cocky lil bugger, bless his lil hobbit socks.

He's always knackered when he comes off, love the defensive chasing and tackling. Adds so much to the fwd line, so nice to actually have a crumber for a change.

Having Chopper and him together is going to be awesome!

yep ballas is a good pickup.... by the way, i reckon people should start getting off mcpharlins back.... he was a great target again today, credit where credit is due hey? mundy was also brilliant

Great all round game and deserved his goals and could've even bagged more. Will be one of the best small forwards in a couple of years and will be a 40-50goal a year player. Great to see some forward pressure with Frodo and chopper.

Its a big IF.

But if Haselby can carry on his form for a few more years, Palmer can return and have a big year, Mundy/Ibbotson step up and Hill/Suban continue their development...Pavlich should be able to move forward permenantly...Then I think you will find Ballantyne will come into his own...2nd/3rd forward and you have someone that can do some serious damage.

He had a great game, love wathing his aggression at the football, though he does need stop relying on the chest mark so much, may work at wafl level but he will get caught out at afl

He's a goer alright. Strong in the body, stays on his feet, can play taller than he is and knows where the goals are. He reminds me a lot of Medhurst.

Unfortunately he also seems to be in danger of developing the kind of relationship with the umpires that Medhurst did. Lets hope it doesn't work against him.

Some people are hard to please?

Hes nothing like Medhurst...

He is a similar player to Stephen Milne at the moment. Has the potential to develop into a very dangerous player because of not only his pace but he just seems to have that instinct for finding the footy in any situation. I think you will see Harvey using him at stoppages along half forward a lot next year.

Hard to please?

You might not see the similarities SD, but I do, and that's not a bad thing. I'm talking about the positive abilities of Medders, like being able to take strong overhead marks, and using his strength and low centre of gravity to stay balanced under pressure and still get a good shot away.

Stephen Milne? Please don't undervalue Ballas like that, Milney is soft as butter.

Remember when you were a kid early teens or so
When playing footy you just wanted to be in everything, ran around at top pace trying to make every contest.
Because you loved playing football
When I see Ballantyne I see a person that never lost that

Frodo models his game around Phil Matera and yes Stevey Milne...who were his favourite players when he was a kid.

Yep and the slime would have picked him with their next pick! They are still looking for another small forward to help LeCras.

Hill Ballas then Suban. Outstanding work with our first three pics. Almost the exact opposite of the success that we have had in the draft in our history. 2008 will go down as Fremantles best ever year for the draft.:D

Not to mention our even better Rookie pick ups. Ka Ching!!!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Our rookie draft on its own is better than some of our previous national drafts.

Have to agree with that. A few times he was spoilt, where had he extended the arms he would've marked it. Great pace off the mark and is very nimble.

Also agree with his relationship with the umps. That 50 he gave away was never there.

To be fair though, he has just come off a double surgery that has kept him out of the side for the majority of the year. He just probably doesn't fully trust his wrists fully yet and thus takes the safer opyion inj regards to his wrists.

Give him time to acclimatise to playing pain free for the first time in 3 years and get to know his wrists and there capabilities and I th8ink you'll find that he will stop going for the chest marks so often.

What did you expect ? He's been chased around by orcs, sauron and the ringwraiths for years... The little fella's bound to pick up some leg speed doing that ;)

^^^
I laughed

cheers bru, always good to see supporters from opposing teams sharing senses of humour :thumbsu:

I find that often on here, if someone doesnt support the same team as someone else, then they are sworn enemies and are destined to fight it out to the death...

FWIW, freo are my 2nd team and I genuinely enjoy watching them play :thumbsu:
