Hi guys,

just wanted to say that i think st kilda will probably be the team to beat this season.

Think you have a great and very modest coach who knows what his doing with a bunch of great players.

Good luck, its time St Kilda did something special and i have a feeling this may be your year.

I like you:thumbsu:

That it looks as though this season could be something special?

Not sure if you're fishing for a bold statement here or not. Personally I'm really looking forward to the season, very excited to see how our new mix of players gel. Looking forward to our forward line kicking straight and seeing a few new blokes push into the team. I'm praying it will be something special!

'97 was going to be special until Adelaide rodgered the Bullies and then the Saints. I still projectile vomit each time I hear the Crows theme song.

Try living in this stinking state squiz you would be spewing everyday ...they are that obsessed with the bloody crows its sickening....

Ditto. If you live here, you'd easily think the only two teams in the comp are Crows and Port, and everyone else just holds a raffle each week to see who has the privilege of playing these two!

While most Saints supporters are still quite reluctant to make bold statements, I on the other hand have a severe case of the prematures and I am really so very enthusiastic about our chances this year.

The NAB Cup thing is a bonus, we have been very lucky to get to the final, but now that we are there I hope we give it a fair shake. In the long run it is of little importance, but it would be nice to boost the revenue through a win. Adelaide's membership numbers are relatively static due to demand always exceeding supply so a win won't help you boost them. The Saints will most likely reach a record level for memberships this year, whether we win or lose the NAB Cup, but it will really boost memberships to unprecedented levels if we win the thing. It probably would have helped if the match was played in Melbourne.

I think that we've had the playing personnel for a while now, to win a premiership. We have been mightily unlucky with injuries and while that can easily be dismissed as "an excuse" it is a valid one.

We have thrown lots of money at our injury problem in the hope that it will go away. That money hasn't been thrown willy nilly though, we have used professional processes to determine exactly what we need to do in order to set ourselves on a level playing field with the wealthy clubs. We have put together a very professional outfit with best personnel to fill each role.

Then we set about learning to work within the new structures and with the new coach and his staff.

The players are a tight knit group who genuinely like each other and respect each other so much that they do not want to let the others down. They have formed a relationship with the coach too.

Last year we worked out a lot of the problems and forged tighter relationships. We recruited to cover for our weaknesses and this year we have gone about our business based on long term goals.

I love the way things are heading.

I am so thrilled - that I have completely lost any conservatism.

I EXPECT A VERY BIG SEASON form my Saints

I think they will finish top 4 - what happens from there is up to fate, or the Gods

I just think that this is the closest we have ever been to being properly prepared for a premiership season.

I went to Adelaide for a conference late last year, around the time of the draft. I was there for over a week staying in the Sebel in town. I walked around a lot after the conference closed each day and checked out the AFL shop and a few other places.

It seems that there really is only one club in Adelaide, the crows, although there was some minor acknowledgement of a second club and some teal colouration was allowed. There were no other clubs in the AFL. NONE.

Very interesting indeed.

From a Swans supporter: It hurts to see a player like Schneider integrate into a team so well, and to know that Dempster will develop into the player I had been waiting for him to become in another team.
But if i could choose a team for them to go to, it'd probably be the Saints.

Talent through and through, and dedication from both fans and players. Unlucky not to have had as much success as you deserve. You've stuck out the worst years, now it's time to reap the rewards!

See you in Round One ;)

Thanks ssfc :thumbsu:

Anybody heading over for the game next week?

I've got the weekend off but I'll decide tomorrow whether it's possible to go.

Kildonan, I went over for the finals in 2004 and 2005 and I've got to say that the shop windows were a sea of teal in 2004 and they had a great deal of support. They are clearly outnumbered but they are a club based team as opposed to a team formed first who represent the rest of the state. I suppose the interesting thing when you go over there is that when you walk down Rundle Mall you generally get a lot of support from the supporters of the other South Australian team.

Shocking thread.

If that's all you can offer it it would probably be best if you didn't contribute to our board.

good luck for the rest of the year, but please don't turn up to play this week... ;)

(btw, rate you guys very highly this year, should be in for a good'un)

Great post Kildonian.

I agree with it all.

I am 26 and have seen a bit of footy in my time but I have never been as excited about any season like 2008. I got a new jumper for my birthday with Jason Gram's number on my back so I am pumped up!!!!!! Hell I was beside myself just to get to the first NAB Cup game. Can't wait to hear the Dome roar in Round 1!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring it on boys.....strength through loyalty!

Honestly, what did you expect to see? When i Listen to talkback sports radio in Melbourne 99% of the talk is on Victorian teams, The Advertiser and the Sun essentially share non-feature pieces and so what you see in one you see in the other just with alterations in the length and the AFL stores in Adelaide do stock non SA team gear.

As for it only appearing that there is one team in Adelaide, you would be right...and that's cause there is only one team in Adelaide. Good luck to your boys this weekend, hope its a great game, and i'm sure Crows fans will turn out in good numbers despite the worlds second largest Festival clashing.

Where to even begin with the faulty logic in this post... "World's second largest festival"? Are you even remotely serious?!?!?

The Afl stores do that because they're AFL stores, and that's the obvious policy of the AFL - not because Adelaide is nice to other teams. As for the radio thing, that is complete and utter unmitigated balony. I've never heard a game on Melbourne radio be called like ones in flipping Adelaide - Saints being up by forty points against the Crows, and the commentators talking only about the Crows players and the implications their performance will have on their position in the ladder.

I love Adelaide, and love living here, but please...

Am i serious? Yes i am my friend and as an Adelaidian you think it would be something you would not only be aware of but ragingly proud of. The Adelaide Fringe Festival is the second largest outside of Edinburgh. As an arts fesitval it is the largest in Australia and in terms of attendance figures (ticketed) it is the largest singular festival event in Australia (approx 900,000 people), with even more flocking to city for the free events. Can you think of one bigger?

Please note my reference to Talkback Radio in Melbourne, rather than game calling, but clearly you were too busy pointing out my faulty logic to actually read the post properly. :thumbsu:

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on a marvellous post. Unfortunately I can not agree with you. I'm assuming you are roughly the same vintage as me so it astounds me that you could yet again fall for all they hype during pre-season. I was exactly the same for years and years, but not anymore. I admit the signs are good but I think I will wait until at least round 8 before I make any predictions. At this stage I will be sticking to my original prediction.....10th - 14th.
