go back a bit further...footy inquest with all the experts sitting behind a white picket fence with Mike Williamson as the anchor man in the middle. Followed by the footy replay. Then followed by the Penthouse Club with Mary Hardy and Bill Collins, with live trots from the showgrounds....;)

Ah live trots on the telly - who remebers the live greyhound racses on the bob maumill show on Channel nione - thursday nights from Sandown.

"i set the toaster to three, medium brown"

Once upon a summer's time
just a dream from yesterday
a boy and his magic golden flute
lured a boat from off the bay
Come and play with me Jimmy
Come and play with me
and i will take you on a trip
far across the seeeeeeeeeea

But the boat belonged to a kooky old witch
you had in mind the flute to snitch
for her broom broom in the sky
she watched her plans materalise
She waved her wand
the beautiful boat was gone
the sky grew dark
the sea grew rough
and the boat sailed on and on and on and on.

But puff n stuff was watching too
and knew exactly what to do
he saw the witches bold attack
and as the boy was fighting back
he called his rescue racers who
as often they'd rehearsed
and off to save the boy they flew
but who would get there first?

But puff arrived to save the day
which made the witch so mad as such
she shook her fist
and screamed away

H R Puff n stuff
he's your friend when things get rough

H R Puff n stuff
can't do a little and he can't do enough.

You got someone who loves you

whenever you need repars
you got some to take the time
to listen to your prayers
I got, you got , everybody too got
someone who cares
by the name of

HR puff n stuuff

I take it this was meant for me?
I never said $55 wasn't a lot of money for some. But, a lot of footy followers do complain and then somehow find the cash for beer and ****. It's about $1.50 a day.Just putting it into perspective. If you can't afford it, then I'm not going to pay out on you for that. Some can and then complain that they can't because they want everything given to them.
As for FTA vs Pay TV...sorry, but get used to it. No point complaining (although it's your right to do so) as it's going to get worse..not better.
As for the 'people's game' then you have obviously bought the AFL's spin on that issue as well. It's no longer the people's game at all. It's a corporate business and we, the punters, mean very little although we're made to feel we're the lifeblood of the game. Bullshit! We mean nothing. You can't even stand in a designated standing area at Telstra Dome because there is none. The AFL meant it when they said it was a 'boutique stadium'.
Pay TV will become mandatory pretty soon if you want to watch ANY footy on your TV. FTA will be a thing of the past. Pity the soccer lovers who can't watch any A-League games or the rugby league fans down here who can't even watch their own side on FTA TV.
Also, you make a good point about exposure for our club being on FTA TV. But that will happen as we get better as a club and our onfield performances start improving. We have no Friday night games this year. I'm tipping we'll have a few next year and then a bucketload the following year.

Sorry for the wrong attribution Tugga. And I also apologise for seeming to have guessed your age wrong. From your subsequent posts (which have spawned a scary break of nostalgia that I confess I can relate to) it would seem you were born in the 60's. (I'm still waiting for the Kimba references.)
Just a couple of things. Do I understand you correctly to be saying that that tv schedule was set in stone last November? (Why is the broadcast schedule only given until rd 17 in that case?) Last November, the Bombers v Tigers would have had as much audience appeal as the Cats and Doggies IMO.
As for your predictions of the extinction of FTA footy, you may be right. But the AFL had better beware. As long as FTA continues to get massive audiences, it remains the most powerful means of publicising the sport. Greed may be good in the corridors of afl HQ at the mo, but the afl's strong position could easily collapse in the face of the soccer challenge and globalisation.
(Even though it is a far inferior game for mine.)

I doubt footy on FTA will ever die. Not for a very long time anyway.

I signed up yesterday and I am getting it installed friday. Ive missed a couple of games this season due to not having foxtel on, but when I could ive just gone down to the TAB (well, TOTE down here) and watched the game on the television down there. Except I dont think im aloud there anymore after the Carlton loss.

Was born in 1970 tiggywigs.
I have an AFL fixture on my fridge at home that was printed up and given away in the Herald Sun well before Christmas and it has whether the game is on Foxtel, Channel 7 or channel 10. I'll stand corrected if the AFL changed it all though. But I swear I have it still sitting on my fridge and it's so far proven to be 100% correct.
I think we'll find that the AFL will go down the path of the NRL, which doesn't announce which games will be when until five weeks beforehand. For instance, being a Storm member and supporter, I still don't know whether we play the Panthers on the Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday afternoon or Monday night of the round 24 weekend in mid-August. This is because Channel 9 gets to choose the most attractive games for their premium Friday night timselot and fair enough if they're forking out hundreds of millions. The only downside to this is to the fans as I am seriously wanting to go up to Sydney for this game, but am not sure what night it is going to held, so I can't arrange accommodations and flights ect. Once again, the fans miss out.
As to all your points in this post, I agree with them and cannot argue against any of it, except for the soccer reference, which I personally find to be a very good, exciting sport to watch if you have a particularly strong allegiance to a club or clubs.

Devastated about Dimi. Gun. Dimi and Robbie up front and we were scoring against anyone. Back half was the problem. Go away Cogga.

LMAO...let me geuss again....Ledley "cement head" King, set the benchmark. Spur's answer to Ben "cement head" Holland...;)
Our back half leaked more than a bout of gastro at a nursing home.
Let Defoe go and now Berby.
LMAO at Tottenham, perennial underachivers like Richmond.

Pity it isn't on free-to-air but this gives people more of an impetus to get to the game. Weather forecast is for showers which will put off a few, but hopefully 70000 turn up. Wishful thinking? Hopefully not. Should be a cracker of a game.

To be fair to you Tugga, and all those who love the round ball game, it's probably comparing apples to oranges to say that I find soccer markedly inferior to aussie rules. Soccer is clearly the most popular non-contact sport in the world. But for mine, the all-of-body skills and courage required to play aussie rules sets it above and apart from all others. (And there are no irritating off-side rules!)

It is not a non-contact sport. Ask Eduardo what he thinks (arsenal player who had his leg broken with bones sticking out)

Yes, contact occurs, but it is neither sanctioned nor usually serious (despite the prima donna antics of some of the more imaginative participants). Therefore it does not require courage to play.

That was horrifying. Was watching the game at the time (hopeing like as hell as always that the other insigicant team from North London lost) and it made me feel ill.
tiggywigs...plenty of courage required to play the world game.

If you can afford broadband you can afford Foxtel.

I don't see the logic Mario (love the name BTW). For me it is a case of being able to afford one or the other so I have gone with broadband. At least there are torrents available of the Richmond games not on FTA. I've had Foxtel before and found it was full of crap. Ever sat down and flicked through 35 channels and there was still nothing on to watch?

Please inform Kurtis of where he can find these torrents?
