I suppose Basset was playing on Lloyd?

I was kind of hoping that Grant at CHB would stop things like 8 to 1 goal quarters.

I wasnt there but I can pretty well predict the flow of the match - doggies struggling to find system going forward, turning over the ball, and Essendon swooping on our mistakes and driving the ball back over our heads for talented tall forwards to mark and goal?

Ill bet it was pretty much a carbon copy of our game v. geelong, with the exception that we abslutely colapsed in the second quarter.

"The midfield constantly provided Essendon’s forwards with easy scoring opportunities and the Bombers made the most of them. "

I think that about sums it up. We have big problems on the ball and going forward from defence through to attack.

Bombers treat Bendigo to vintage display

Essendon stepped up its pre-season form with an emphatic 71 point win over the lacklustre Western Bulldogs at Bendigo’s Queen Elizabeth Oval on Saturday.

The Bombers were never troubled in recording their first win of the pre-season, with spearhead Matthew Lloyd and captain James Hird in mid-season form. The Bulldogs had no answer to Essendon’s superior strength in all areas.

Lloyd finished with seven goals and Mark McVeigh three, while Nathan Brown led the Dogs attack with three from full-forward.

Essendon’s only concern was a neck injury to Sean Wellman that forced him to the hospital during the first quarter. An Essendon official confirmed that Wellman had pinched a nerve in his neck and that the injury was not serious.

Both teams fielded near full strength line ups, and the one-sided outcome will give Bulldogs coach Peter Rohde headaches with the regular season only three weeks away. The Dogs only highlight came late in the final quarter when Daniel Giansiracusa stood on Joel Reynolds shoulders to take a screamer that he finished off with a consolation goal.

The Bulldogs began well, with Nathan Brown and Luke Darcy providing an early lead. But Essendon stepped up its game from midway through the opening term, slamming on nine unanswered goals to effectively end the contest. Lloyd was strong overhead, and used his strength and marking ability to finish off the good work of his midfield.

Essendon was unstoppable during the second quarter, evoking memories of their dominant 1999-2001 teams. The midfield constantly provided Essendon’s forwards with easy scoring opportunities and the Bombers made the most of them.

Lloyd had five goals by the main break, and the likes of McVeigh, Mark Johnson and Hird had dominated proceedings to set up the match-winning edge.

With Essendon enjoying a 51 point half time lead, the second half turned into an exhibition. Rioli came into the game during the third quarter and the Bulldogs again had no answers and the Dons rolled to the easy win.

Bad luck to your fellows. And good luck for the up coming season.
Actually wasn't that bad of a game (especially for us;)), the backline for us though was pretty impenetrable and really set up the win.
