Have been on the Brett Ratten train since these threads have been going, so let's call it more than a week! Has the Clarkson tie-in, plus I'd argue did a better job at Carlton than Malthouse did, and finally has coached his own team, so that's 3 ticks. Outside of him, yeah I'd go Hodge, Mitchell or perhaps further afield, honestly wouldn't mind Voss or even Buddha Hocking (hasn't coached in own right, but neither have others), but I guess like other posters I am a little "FFS anyone, just give us a change".

Cannot understand calls for Crocker or Tudor to have a crack. God Crocker is the DIRECTOR of Coaching. He's overseeing Brad if the organisation chat bears any resemblence to job titles. If Tudor cannot influence Brad/Crocker then he ain't much of an influence of men I am sorry to say and would be just cancer of a different type. It's time for a clean out I'm afraid.

Now the question of timing - as much as I would absolutely love to wake up tomorrow with the news, but realistically, that is not going to happen. With the connections he clearly has and the lack as other posters have noted a clear change agenda/ticket emerging, I cannot see him going before the end of the year irrespective of the ladder position. I just can't. We a) cannot afford it - that's partly at play here b) Board looks idiotic for an extension and then cutting so early. We had our chance a couple of years ago and Brad sold them on it, and they bought it.

Did I say that?

Are you accusing me, a 30+ year member of being disloyal?

A fella that bought his first membership as a 12yr old, who's now pushin 50?

A person who stood on the steps of Dallas Brooks Hall, rallied ON MY OWN as a country boy with no suburban connections, no online connections, completely oblivious of all of the Bigfooty groundswell, but there all the same because I've always had an undying love of this club.

Is that what you are accusing ME of?

Disloyalty?

Pull your head in campaigner.
I gathered from your comments you weren't going to watch the team because you disagree with it's direction.

you shouldn't get so worked up over a BF post.

You make some strong counterpoints on Crocker and Tudor. Very strong.

Agree with almost everything else except Voss.

He’s basically a worse spoken more self-absorbed Brad. No thanks.

Tudor. His time has come. Been a force everywhere - including the first year he came to North. Then Allison left and we moved him to forwards coaching :drunk:

Dean Solomon? lol. Barely has a brain between his ears. We need a thinker.

Left field option lets get Drew back. Been great at West Coast and a year under Simpson. Cheap and a great club man.

Apparently Dean Soloman is that thinker type from what i've read

That reminds me - Brady Rawlings. Have championed him for a long time.

North Melbourne person who built a career off hard work. Experience in player development and list management. Premiership experience. Smart thoughtful guy.

But does he want to coach?

Hocking has been coach of Peel Thunder and Geelong Falcons so has the experience. He's also highly regarded down at Alberton.

Voss is also getting some good accolades at Port but there is something about him that doesn't sit well with me.

Wasnt long ago Buckley's head was closest to the chopping block. A lot has to do with the cattle, and yes the coach should be getting the right cattle.

I feel like having a dig at Scott about the center clearance thing, as its been an issue for 20 years! Its just that it hurts more now. But to be fair he and the club have been moving heaven and earth to get GUN mids to address that very issue, unfortunately our club seems to lack appeal. The bigger clubs usually get their man, we usually have to settle for above average.

This is no surprise to me, and why we will never be a team that rebuilds from the middle to win flags. Flags require loads of top end talent, theres only one way we're going to get that and many people around here have been deadset against its. Once players are at our club they seem to love it which again points to the draft being our best ticket.

Like him or loathe him - Clarkeson has the runs on the board and has shown he isn't scared to make tough decisions. Bring him home.
If we’re serious the Clarko must be the number 1 target. Imagine what he could do with our team. If not him then Mitchell would be a good get. I’m completely out of the Blake Caracella et.al camp. Just BS clones in disguise. I’m over Mr. Nice Guy coaches

Had a chat with him just before he went west with Simmo.

He said he loved working with the young kids and wasn't really looking any further than that.

Times change of course.

Ultimate professional and very astute. He's also very humble, not an egotist, quietly determined yet steadfast in his opinions.

Surrounded with the right people he would be a gem.

As a senior player I remember stories of him ruffing up every draftee in the first couple of training sessions.

I hope he keeps that mantle up as a senior coach.

would have thought
Robert Harvey, Scott Burns or Dean Soloman as they have the most assistant experience.
Correct me if im wrong

Interesting points on Ratten's departure and also Hawthorn's approach.

Spoiler: it's a bit different to ours

Bloody hell... reading that, if you agree with the reasoning is an indictment on us. The worst part is that we appeared to recognise part of this issue when we moved on Drew, Boomer, Firrito and whatisface... but then treated it like that was the job done. That should have been a mindset change and other moves made as well (off field) over the next 18 months. FWIW I think when the change is made there should be a broom through the place, at the very least with those that have been there the longest. Need a refresh.

Maybe we could sell Clarko on the idea of taking over the reigns and mentoring Sam Mitchell to become his successor?

Who the **** am I kidding. I can guarantee this is what Hawthorn will be cooking up. Clarko to coach until he has had enough and Mitchell his heir apparent.

Brady Rawlings would be an interesting one. Has done a long apprenticeship and been at a successful set up in West Coast.

If he had the desire, I could see him being a great fit. I’m sure he would also bring along Drew as one of his assistants.

I think at the moment any option just seems so much better than Brad. He has beaten the supporters into submission with his drivel on abberations, backing them in.... yadda yadda.

You can only keep bringing up the same things so often before people see it for what it is, hot air. I’m sick of him telling us what is wrong, only to see no progress towards rectifying it.

Yes there are no quick fixes, but with Brad there seems to be no fixes, just more of the same.

Don’t want a rookie coach

Last 2 rookie coaches have wasted 18 years of our time
And I don’t want a SNAG coach
I want a prick
Barassi and Pagan were pricks, albeit magnificent gentlemen
Someone who knows our list, respects our culture and history, and can turn things around quickly

You do realize there have only been 2 coaches this century that coached a team prior to coaching their premiership team? All the others were rookie coaches.

All well and good, but we tend to choose the wrong ones

Anyway, for what it’s worth, Ratten appears to be the best credentialed

This made me think.

Our last two coaches before Brad, 1 walked away from a contract that was unders and more media work.

Laids was sold as being a mutual separation where he'd previously had to be convinced to stay.

I don't think that Brad will, A) baulk at the media stuff or b) need to be convinced to stay in the haven he's built.

The part that pains me the most isn't that we're going to play some really shit games. It's not even that we're going to play some really good games. It's that we're not going to do enough of either to move from where we are.

We will be mid 6 teams.

No man's land.

Sam Mitchell is a pretty arrogant prick despite his rookie status.
Him & Hodge will be the future hardass coaches of footy.
