Get Mitchell to come in as his understudy and give Mitchell the job when he is ready.
In all seriuouslyness, how do you think BS would go in a planned succession scenario. Might be OK with a Captains Pick but I don't know if he could adapt to one imposed on him by the club (based purely on his lack of flexibility this far on other issues)

This is the conundrum BS and the board have established for the club.

A couple of years ago we were fed this PR crap about a ‘mini rebuild’ which infact was a smokescreen for BS to get a contract extension without the pressure of losing because hey it’s a ‘rebuild’ on the run right?

We’ve been stuck in the pool of mediocrity for ages, we’re not in the deep end and we’re not in the shallow end either.

For the last 2 decades we’ve won the same amount of silverware as Carlton the only difference is they’re stockpiling top 3 draft picks while we keep getting the 10-15 range due to our mid table finishes. Yeah they’re the butt of our jokes now but they’re going to be bloody good in the next few years.

I’m not saying we need to bottom out for a decade like the BLWS but something has to change and a new voice/direction/ideas at the top is a start.

Rebuilds don't take too long... if you get A grade talent and you develop well. Hawks and Geelong built amazing teams from a period of 2-3 years of great drafting/trading/development. Once you have the core group, you just need solid role players who can perform their function without being stars.

Looking at our 23 and under players we have a lot to work with, particularly in the midfield. It was different to the Laidley era purge where we basically had nothing on the books. LDU, Ahern, Thomas, Scott, Dumont, Taylor and Walker are all 23 and under.

The problem is that it is going to look very different in 2 years time if the development is underwhelming and our recruitment is for the now instead of building for the future.

West Coast would have given us 2 late 1st round picks for for pick #10 which they could have used to get Kelly. We could have turned that into 4 second round picks, we could have got a second round pick for Preuss, we could have paid for Thomas and got 4 good quality second round picks. We were very happy with getting Curtis Taylor with 46, we could have also looked at 3 extra elite ball users that went in the second round and still ended up with Hall, Thomas and Scott.

I am happy with Polec, he is the type of player we have lacked but was it the kind of decision that helps us to build a premiership contending team? I prefer getting guys like Hall that cost nothing in a trade and relying more on free agents to make sure we have a solid mature side that makes it easier for young players to learn in but I think we missed an opportunity in a strong draft to get hold of some really good talent cheaply. Sure, potentially it means you might take a step backwards in the short-term but if we can accumulate enough talent to contend without sucking arse completely then I think it is worth it.

Whilst I get the focus on recruiting an A grade midfielder the reality is a Martin or Kelly would arguably have little impact as that next tier of player has not stepped up. Scotts focus needs to shift to clearing the list cloggers and broadening our recruitment focus.... starting with a key defender and forward.

This is how ideally I would like to see it go. I really think our whole recruitment/development/coaching needs a serious purge. Instead of throwing big $$$ at players we need a coaching team that can actually coach, innovate and get the best out of the list from a development perspective. We need people who are personable but also have a ruthless side.

Ideally I would like to get rid of our whole coaching staff and go with:

Senior Coach: Clarkson (2 years then hand the reigns to Mitchell)
Senior Assistant: Sam Mitchell
Midfield Coach: Lenny Hayes
Forward Coach: Peter Sumich (Highly rated, should have already been a senior coach...in fact I wouldn’t mind him as a senior coach)
Backline Coach: Rhyce Shaw or Matthew Scarlett

Head of Development/list manager: Brady Rawlings

Would be nice if we could somehow get
Emma Quayle involves in recruitment too.

All a pipe dream though because nothing will happen.

For me, Polec is a great pick up for the future as well as the here and now. He's 25, so could easily play for 7 more seasons. And we only had to give up pick 11. Sure we might draft a Cunnington with that pick but it could easily be a Hansen or a McDonald. And it might takes you three to five years of development to find out. Whereas Polec is a sure thing. I hadn't watched much Port so I didn't realise how good he was. Covers so much ground and is so creative and hardly wastes a single possession.

I wasn’t referring to Brad, I was referring to Brett Ratten coming and Mitchell being his understudy.

I think Brad and the club need to part ways for a fresh start.

I’d enjoy f***ing diehard fans around by taking their hard earned cash in November and making them wait until a month into the season to receive their membership cards. [emoji106]

Considering how you keep us all in line around these parts I think the membership team wouldn't know what hit them with you in charge!

Looking At Peter Sumich previous roles I think he would be an excellent candidate.

2000 - 2001: South Fremantle Senior Coach, took them to a grand final in 2001.
2002 - 2011: Senior Assistant & Forward Line Coach at West Coast. Played a big role in their 2006 premiership
2012 - 2016: Senior Assistant. Played a big role in changing Freo's game plan which got them to the 2013 grand final
2017: Senior Development Coach Fremantle
2018 - 2019: WA State coaching Coordinator

Name didn’t suit. You can be in charge of Arden St redevelopment
Funny that you mention that, when we were watching the VFL game there the other day, I asked my little mate what he thought was happening to the buildings. He said that Hulk had come and smashed them. Funny kid.
