I never cared for the controversy over these academies. However, now to read that some of our potential father - sons could be involved with it

WE NEED TO SHUT THIS CHEATING SYSTEM DOWN!

If we lose out because of the Sydney academy it is utter tripe.

F/S should take priority over an academy especially because the swans have been handed 2-3 potential first rounders over the past few years

And COLA which is the biggest rort and hand-out in the history of the game. (the continuous handout over several years, I'm guessing)

It's up to the kid. They choose North or Sydney. There will obviously be the usual bidding process but if the kid chooses North, he's ours.

weren't the academy's about finding kids that would otherwise never find their way into the AFL system? surely sons of legends shouldn't qualify

Don't be ridiculous.

That's like saying the previous system of allowing all clubs to have players on scholarships and direct access to the list was better.

Sure, if we went back to that system now it'd expose say 18 clubs x 2 players each, um, 36x NSW/ACT players per year to AFL club programs. And sure, there might be a knock on to more kids trying to get into the sport through that pathway with so many opportunities in the offering.

But isn't it better for the development of AFL in NSW and ACT that it's concentrated down to 3-6 NSW/ACT kids each year with the spoils shared between 2 NSW clubs?

Bloody Carey and Corey and their chromosome issues. So who has done the right thing by the club? I like the sound of Archer junior, Crocker junior, Boomer junior....who are the other likely lads?

Wouldn't it be something to have the names Archer and Larkin donning the royal blue and white stripes again? Not to mention the possibility of the Harvey name becoming a permanent fixture on the lockers.

Corey McKernan just had his fifth girl.

Congratulations.

If women's football is wildly popular in fifteen to twenty years time we are set for a good North Melbourne side with all these girls.
His 5th????? Always loved the guy, and clearly he's hell bent on delivering the Roos a father/son pick.....6 women in the house, mans a saint.

I hate to be a wet blanket here. Admittedly I don't really know how these academies work but it just seems a bit rough on the kids that won't make it. I mean they bring them to the club, promise them the world at a very young age. They dedicate their whole childhoods to footy and if come draft time they're not good enough, it's on ya bike son. Theres the next generation of kids coming through on the conveyor belt.

I love the whole father son thing by the way, I'm just not sure the clubs should be able to get involved with the kids before they are at least 17.

I don't think it's serious AFL pathway academy.

More just a 'get together' a couple of times a season.

Spoke with a mate that I had not seen for a long time yesterday, his son was playing against boomers boy for yarrambat I think the team was, said little boomer is a freak, superior skills, got all the tricks easily best natural footballer on the ground he was saying...claimed that he could not see this kid not being an afl footballer knowing who his dad is...

Fingers crossed more like his dad and not uncle! I remember Brent and Shane's father saying similar things about Shane as a junior.

Let's hope he grows to be taller than his old man. A 6 foot boomer could be a one in a generation type player.
