Fair Enough - A Lot can happen in 4 years to a Kid who is still Developing
Dave I'll give you an example, in under 13s and 14s I was a dominant player in my side along with ben McKinley now at west coast. Ben in the ruck myself across half forward.

Come under 17s 18s ben progressed into a mid, and I became best described as Alan toovey without the closing speed, thanks to not growing as tall as expected, knee injuries and basically on my half lack of desire (who wants 5'10" defensive flankers with dodgy knees lol)

Growth spurts, desire, skill sets, injury etc can all change between 14 and 18

Didn't know you went to Ivanhoe Grammar...

No but ben and I both played juniors at yarrambat under Gary mcfarlane, brother of Glenn

happy now Rohan?

This is the factor most responsible for the difference from a player club player and an AFL player. True some have natural talent oozing from every pore, but in reality most who cut it work damned hard to get there and damned hard to stay there,
I fell into the same category as you Opti. Girls, Cars, Fishing and Good times were my downfall. Several blokes I played with over my career forewent the fun and knuckled down and had a their shot at a, then, VFL career.

Add alcohol to the above and you have many a promising career that was cut short from being fulfilled. Not just Aussie Rules, but a lot of other sports!

I wonder if the club would allow us to attach electrodes to ex and current player's balls, just to see if there's any prospect of procreation and progeny.

We can break the news first on bigfooty and get some early shots in the womb.

Let's not forget the children born out of wedlock. The mighty sperm of our stars must have impregnated some willing ladies around Australia and the world. I've never read a full football biography. Do they include a special relations section in the Appendix? Time to mine that baby gravy trail.

Don't forget also that any women b/w the ages of 16 & 45 who have touched any part of Alan Toovey are pregnant.

I seem to remember, from the Pies site last year, that the club has an established program to keep these youngsters and their Dads involved with the club.

Anyone got any more info on this?

Yeah have they had them back yet?

Loki04 linked to it in the OP, IIRC. But no new news on this program AFAIK.

To be fair, we've had a thread going on this very topic for nigh on 3 years. Most, if not all the info you would have seen on BF's Drafts and Trading board would have been taken from it, and the stuff on Nick's was at least built on it. Here's the link to Future Magpies Watch '10. Here's the link to the post in FMW09 which first starts to list F/S prospects.

Ned McKeown and Darcy Moore are the ones who are playing rep footy, so they'll be well and truly on the radar but Darcy in particular is a whole 4 years away. Ben Monkhorst is playing for Eastern Ranges U18's this year, so hopefully he'll acquit himself well. Jackson Starcevich played U16's for Queensland last year, so it will be interesting to see his progress in WA now that Craig has returned home to a High Performance Manager job with the WA U18's side.

Yeah, and Adrian Anderson said he thought it was a great idea, but it hasn't been implemented. Jordan Taylor will probably be playing with the Cannons this year.

Wasn't aware that FS talk was in that thread, thought it was a thread on NSW rookie listed players and hadn't read through it.

Jaxon Starcevich is a likely type.

Still raw but shows plenty of potential. Will be interesting to see how he goes in WA this year...

Allegedly Jett plays for St. Kevin’s.

Having said that, from my vague recollection Nathan himself wasn’t much as a junior footballer…
