Much as I dislike Pickering, we can't keep "blaming" him for his clients' willingness or otherwise to make a decision. If Pickanose is stalling, it has to be under Aish's instructions.

Managers can't take courses of action contrary to their clients instructions or they get the sack.
Agree. Ablett re-signed with the Suns only a few weeks ago... James would be the one holding out but Pickers knows what he's doing

What about this for speculation . . . . . .

Events of last week:

Pickering gets a call during the week from Adelaide saying they are looking like they might retain both Patrick and Rory and as a result may not have much more that 250 a season. Might be able to back end something but it's not looking good.

Pickering rings Port who advise nothing has changed and in fact they have even less interest now that he isn't a regular in the seniors.

Getting desperate now Pickering arranges a meeting with Carlton and James. Carlton admit they would love to sign him but are wary of bringing in a player who could possibly be viewed as soft. Despite the need for talent at their club they have had some misses in recent trades and are not prepared to commit until Aish shows signs of improvement and a harder edge this year. James and Pickering leave the meeting unsure of salary potential or even if Carlton want him.

A couple of days later the Lions beat Carlton and James rings Pickering upset that he just doesn't know what to do any more. He didn't even have a reserves game this weekend and his mates all had a fat old time in Melbourne. Pickering quickly arranges a meeting with the Lions to see where they are at.........

At the meeting Pickering and James ramble on about how hard the situation is and how James just wants to concentrate on football and that the offer of 400k is pretty close to the money. At this point the Lions interrupt the ramblings with..... "400k per season is off the table. Sorry but the deadline for that has passed. On current form we will be looking at much less than that. You can't pay a seconds player that kind of money!"

James and Pickering leave the meeting with advice to work hard and get back in the seniors.

Fantasy stuff I know, but maybe just maybe the last week has been a reality check and he will have to lift his game if he wants to get either the destination or contact of his choice.

Personally i think every thing indicates Aish is leaving. I hope he stays but it's not the end of the World if he leaves. The midfield is the one part of the ground we have depth. Rocky Hanley Beams Rich Redden Zorko Lester Robertson Taylor. The draft is always full of midfielders. I would be more concerned if we had a good young key player leaving. With the pick we get for Aish we give ourselves more chance to draft a key position player.

As a club we should be looking at getting 2picks inside the first 15 selections. Hopefully getting a good player in through free agency and possibly looking to trade our 2nd round pick for a decent player from another club.

In my mind he answered the question.

When he said "my manager and the club will continue to talk throughout the season" he's admitting that he's not close to signing and it will be after the season has finished before he makes an announcement.

This is not a guy thinking of staying. He is clearly executing an exit strategy at the moment.

I wouldn't give him another game.... Even if we get less for him as a result.

When you show you're a committed Lion then you get a game.... Why would we get less games into someone like Robertson or Taylor or Lester who have signed on to give you a game??

You wouldn't want to put his nose too far out of joint.

The way our season is going we are every chance of finishing last, knowing Carlton we'd be trying to convince him to enter into the PSD if that was the case.

Would you want Aish though? Another slow midfielder in an already ageing midfield. Sure he is good but not someone who you can build a midfield around.

ummm let me think?

YES!

I understand your point about our midfield already being full of soft whingers, but if Aish wants out and we can get a discount on his value like we did for Docherty I'd be keen to take him.

Aish will not be cheap.... The Polec story adds to his value..... In the right environment Polec has become the player we drafted him to be....

Everyone knows Aish has the talent to be elite. He has two years physical conditioning behind him and a just needs to find his mojo... Like Polec did at Port. Whether or not Brisbane's environment can get him there remains to be seen...... But it ain't Carlton's environment that's for sure!!!

Mate, u certainly wont be getting him in the PSD, even if we dont give him another game. BF posters threaten with PSD but the recruiters and list management don't do that. Plus you burn relationships if u do that and clubs have a long memory.

Aish will cost u a 1st rounder regardless of whether he plays this season or not.

Nothing new, but:

OVER on 7 Mate, James Aish’s manager, Liam Pickering, spoke to the Talking Footy team about the future of his client.

Pickering reiterated that there is “absolutely” still a chance he remains at Brisbane this summer, saying he is yet to inform anyone that he wants to leave the Lions.

“At the moment, Brisbane is the main priority, but if he decides he doesn’t want to be at Brisbane, then anybody is a possibility,” Pickering said.

Yeah carlton are crap, shit culture etc etc.

Not saying he's coming to carlton But there is no way in the world that you will get what Aish is worth IF it's true he is adamant about leaving. Why would a club trade for him if they weren't getting a bargain?

Same thing with the deal for doc, he was definitely going and unfortunately for you guys you had to accept a pick that was unders.

Say aish is worth pick 5-8 in the years draft, you will get the a trade to the value of pick 13-18. That's just the way it goes, if a players demanding to leave, the club he's at gets short changed.

That's nothing against brisbane. Happened to us with jacobs.

He's just biding his time trying to make it to the end of the season before he announces he's going home. All this nonsense about Collingwood and Carlton is pretty dumb. If Aish was after money than he'd stay at Brisbane since we are offering him more than enough. He might not like Brisbane, he might be homesick whatever it is I just hope we are fairly compensated for losing yet another first round draft pick.
