Someone told me ages ago that Aish is interested in Pies, Blues, and Dees... For Melbourne clubs. I laughed it off and
Not sure if he was serious or not. TBH out of all Vic clubs if I was in Aish shoes I'd go to Footacray...

Let's hope we can get some decent value either way. Never really warmed to him at all even before all this BS got out.

Yeah, Toumpas was essentially what I would have called an elite kick as a junior. Long, Accurate and Penetrating. Showed explosive speed, good awareness and could regularly get on the scoreboard. He has had some hip problems in his time at Melbourne IIRC and also had some hip concerns in his draft year. He posses gifts that would make him a genuine game breaker if he can capitalize on the talent he has. A change of scenery could do just that.

I was never expecting him to play regular footy from the start but this is his third year and he has not shown a great deal. Smells like a Polec situation to me, and we all know just how much he had shown in his first year with Port.

I'd take him for the right price. Probably worth similar to what Polec was when he left us.
He also apparently has a Brisbane connection through his father who was brought up and played Soccer here.

I would do aish and Toumpas in a heart beat. Feel like it would be a massive win win for all clubs. I know some of his family and they're all very keen to get him up here.

Toumpas was Pick 4 in the 2012 ND.
(The one where we took Longer at 8:rolleyes:)

Accepting the fact that he was/still is a Lions man at heart , the romantic in me wants us to do a deal to get him here.

The question is just how much we should pay?

This is where the realist in me kicks in. Realistically, I think a straight swap for Aish is unders for us just because Aish has better disclosed form (by quite a margin). Toumpas seems to never have really got going so I guess the supplementary question is........is Toumpas one of those players who was massively overrated to start with or did he just get spud-ified by Melbourne???

Who knows?

But there is a risk factor there so in the final wash up I'd want/expect us to require Toumpas plus second rounder as insurance. Giving them a third rounder as well probably plays OK for us too since this is supposedly a "shallow" draft

In the world of trading, there's probably some 3 or 4 way deal to enable it, even if we couldn't negotiate it directly with the Dees

Where is all this Toumpas talk coming from? He comes out of contract at the end of this season, but haven't seen any indication of him signaling his intention to leave the club.

Seems like fan fuelled desires.

Yeah agree with your concerns. Melbourne have a habit of drafting spuds. Jack Watts, Travis Johnstone, Cale Morton, Jack Trengrove, Matthew Bate, Sam Blease, Jordan Gysberts, Lucas Cook are a few that come to mind.

Not really I think they (Melbourne) have a development problem and I think that Toumpas could really be a great pickup for us but I would want him for free

In fairness to Melbourne, there wasn't a great deal of controversy surrounding many of their choices over the period.

Watts for example was almost universally regarded as lock for Pick 1 and a future superstar.

Now what Melbourne actually did to those high picks is up for debate and ultimately one of those Sliding Doors scenarios.

Apart from that, leave Trav alone. They had pretty good value out of him and so did we I would argue. Unlucky to be de-listed by us IMO.

Still got a soft spot for him:(

I doubt Melbourne will desist Toumpas even if they don't want him. Being such a high draft pick only two years ago will mean they will get a trade.

Maybe I'm getting too emotional, but I'd be happy to have anyone with a link to the Lions or Queensland come home.

I think there is something also in this for the PR perception point of view. We had a good trade period last year, but we are going to lose Aish there is talk of our ruckmen wanting to leave, and a lot of players are up for renewal at the end of 2016.

To be able to say a former first round pick is wants to come (and is bringing a set of steak knives with him) would soften the blow when this needs to be sold more widely.

All this talk of Toumpas is a waste of time.

It's not on the cards. Melbourne have had their own retention issues and won't trade talent to get talent.

Move on.

I'm not a fan of getting Bell. Only because I think we need more outside, hard running midfielders that are damaging by foot such as Hanley. Not another tough ball getter, that can push forward.

I hope Mayes' work rate improves as he continues to physically mature and grows into this role.

There has been rumblings that the Dees want to trade Toumpas.

As your comment suggests, the guy wins the ball and kicks goals - hard to see what's not to like about that when you are stone motherless last with four rounds to go.
