Pick 22 (Seedsman) & 24 (Freeman) is equal to 845 points + 785 points. 1630 points.

Pick 7 by itself is equal to 1644 points.
Pick 8 by itself is equal to 1551 points.

Those two picks in a points sense and with 2 academy players is more than fair and reasonable.
Disregarding the probability that the Lions will have enough points to cover Keays and Hipwood from Leuey compo and possibly Redden trade.

If we get West Coast's first round pick for Redden/Leuey compo and keep our second round pick, we'll likely have enough points to get our academy players without those Collingwood picks. Then those picks you mentioned would be used in the draft. Would you trade pick 8 for picks 22 and 24?

Call BS or whatever but ..... I spoke with someone this morning who told me they spoke with Leigh Matthews yesterday and he was still adamant a trade would not happen under any circumstances.... ie, that the line-in-the-sand stance won't be changing.

I am not revealing any source but to say I live not far from the Lions training ground at Coorparoo and often see players, coaches, etc around and about.

I suspect they'd talk.

Given the stance the club has taken it will take steak knives on top of the 2 second rounders IMO. If you lot get pick 22 for Seedsman you should put that number in your lotto tickets.

It is fun watching Collingwood fans try to work out in their tiny little minds why the Lions won't just hand over a top 10 pick who has shown he will be a B grader at worst for a couple of crappy picks and a spud. How dare the Lions not give Collingwood what they want and what James Aish what he wants. Aish has just completely dicked our club around. He gets no goodwill at all.
I agree. Every club has the right to exercise their rights and utilise their position. I was all for holding on to Beams because he had another year left. The whole thing is getting out of hand. We've got guys like Freeman going without hardly playing a game. Whether we get value or not is irrelevant you'll almost always get screwed over, it's just bad luck. I'm not sure how much we rate Aish, I see him as more spud like, if Brisbane rate him that high the Collingwood probably won't have the picks etc to do the trade.

Then you have to know that this has zero value.

Collingwood wouldn't have chased him if they didn't rate him. The AFL is in bad shape with 2nd year players nominating clubs. Player Managers are fueling it and the rules are allowing players to have too much power.

Forgive me, I know not about Freeman. Why didn't he play?

Freeman didn't play because he was injured for two years now he wants go to Saints for some bs reason. Brisbane's line in the sand is pretty well useless, it won't make any difference. The afl needs to step in to stop what's been happening to you over the last few years.

Brisbane's "line in the stand" has meant this issue has more media time, which raises awareness for your last point.

Very much this. The balancing mechanism that is required to create a competition of relative equality is badly broken. The NRL remains relatively equalized because the sole equalization tool, a salary cap that makes clubs only deal with market forces, works better than a multi-faceted draft/trade/FA/salary cap equalization that the AFL uses. Ours is just a mess. The NRL at least has evidence of theirs working effectively.

At one point, the AFL could have at least said that club loyalty was stronger than in the NRL but these days that would be a fairly dubious claim to make.

As always, Homer says it best:

Arizona Cardinals, Man United,
Author doesn't have a lot of credibility in these parts. It also seems more an opinion piece than anything else.

FWIW though, I don't think anyone seriously expects the Lions list management team to cover their ears and shout "la, la, la" when Collingwood comes to talk.
A deal will probably get done. But i strongly believe that the afl will be forced to step and provide a lot of assistance to the lions so that they can secure and hold onto their talent from next year onwards.

The Lions have said they will not trade Aish but if Collingwood offer something attractive, they would surely take it.

Pushing a player into the draft when they can get something for him does not look tough, it just looks pig-headed, and Lions CEO Greg Swann knows how to get a deal done.
So, entirely Hamilton's bigfooty-like speculations.
