If it's not Union, it's League and if it's not league is Soccer.
A constant battle coming from all directions.
Actually I disagree, the loses seem more to union where kids are being groomed as fly half's, in centres or fullbacks because of their kicking ability.

Union seems to be getting their act together and we are losing a few to them at jnr level. But when most of the talented go to private school and there isn't a strong afl comp between them it puts development back.
The private schools are clever, they schedule weekend sport so that our blokes cant come and play footy. We are now relegated to Sunday matches and there are a percentage of families that push back and say "no, sorry Sunday is family day".
Seriously at a grass roots level the game is going backwards at a rate of knots, and please dont quote Auskick numbers to me - in most cases nothing more than glorified child minding.

I know of one private school that was doing some effort in getting AFL going but yeah the overall league they play in is pretty sub-par. Hell back when I played in it I remember it was 80% filled with no-neckers that were told if they didn't try AFL they wouldn't get a run when the union teams were picked.

They ran a study program that allowed the senior year to be taken over two years instead of the normal time so more focus could be placed on the chosen co-curricular. But then that churned out Jesse White who ended up in Sydney and then the Pies - so that's not a posterboy for retaining QLD talent in QLD there either.

Quite honestly the amount of circling the victorian vultures are doing already is starting to get really really annoying. We had a full year of Aish speculation which was great for team dynamic, then all the Rocky bullshit last year... guess what, now we get to do it all again - Round 1 just finished and some twat is alraedy in the rumour forum sprouting a $700k /year deal with Carlton is already done and dusted.

Yeah, when I played for the Springwood Pumas the majority of my teammates did come from JPC (where Jesse was from). I believe that their participation in Aussie Rules has dipped somewhat since then.

Those were the days. I went to JPC and got an award for Aussie Rules 3 years running, despite never actually playing it. AFL coach happened to be the womens hockey coach so to tick off my two extra curricular activities per year i traded him a participation in AFL for helping coach the girls side. Needless to say it was a win/win with him getting another hockey coach and me spending 2-3 afternoons a week with a group of girls who were mostly older or the same age as me.

Sorry to take us back to 3 pages ago but this article just came out on SEN.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2017/03/30/how-brisbane-can-win-from-schache-trade/

TLDR: If he wants to leave, he wants to leave. If we get both of Richmond's 1st round picks for him it wouldn't be a bad result, we would then have 4x1st round picks along with Ballendon as an Academy pick (hopefully), Close and Freeman coming along "steady" and Hipwood who is now a star in the making.

Yeah, after the Aish fiasco holding out and with all the speculation, FAIC he can go if he wants, just don't string us along. If he wants to stay, then sign NOW!

He just doesn't have that look of enthusiasm and commitment about him like the others, and I'm aware he's a bit shy, but just a gut feeling. Obviously will be glad if I'm wrong.

..but getting jacked off with some of these kids and their managers stuffing the club around......the will he, won't he syndrome.

No more, enough!

Ballenden we havent got yet. And who knows, could be a bust.
Freeman is a young KPF who struggles with fitness, work ethic and repeat efforts. Great contested marking tho.
Close is probably the most established senior KPF we have. Walker is there but l don't see him becoming anything special.
Hippy looks like a star but is still very young. X-factor type.

Schache is that old-school CHF who runs all day. He looks like he will be more consistent and you know what you get type forward every match. Hippy, is the type of forward that could get 4/5 goals in 1 match but then get 1/2 next match or less.

I don't see any way we can win if we lose Schache. More draft picks, getting younger again, players will think we are a training ground and then hop off after 2nd year. Need to keep him and that is by being more competetive during games. Unfortunately, l see this year being much the same as last year maybe slightly better.

I think it's disgusting how many media centrals are already assuming he's gone and suggesting possible trades for him. Imagine if someone did that for Moore from Collingwood.
The club's media department is very tired of it too. There is no practical response you can make to these articles until he signs. Everything else just fuels it.

I liked it when we went on the aggressive prior to the Bundy and Beams trades when they had a bit of confidence.

I wonder if we went a bit hard trying to get him to sign a 5 year deal straight away. Maybe should have tried to get a 1 or 2 year deal and build on that.

I agree I don't think the conversion from auskick to under 6s or 8s is absolute. Junior footy is Saturday, youth footy Sundays.

However you look at it, there are definite warning signs.
Yeah, It's a worry. Whatever happens this year with him there is no chance he will play his best football with the continued speculation about his future.

Be interesting to see how the club handles it.

I just really struggle to understand what the go is with these kids. Living in QLD, playing a game you love, with a bunch of mates. You basically have anything you want done for you, beautiful young ladies wanting your attention all while getting paid a small fortune every year. These kids need a dose of reality and to get of their mothers breasts, harden up and be thankful for what they have got instead of running away back home for little or no reason. Maybe Josh needs a slap in the face to wake up too himself. Or is it purely the work of those vulture managers.?

Not always so black and white. He could have all of those things and live closer to his family and friends in Melbourne.

Some people adapt better to living away from home, some people don't.

Oh wow here I was being coy about the name but there's dozens of us. Dozens! JPC Alumnus assemble! :drunk: (also Springwood Pumas... assuming that shed/pub is still standing my name is up on a board for 100+ games in that place...)

A bit of perspective...

Josh is the highest on the list so they (the MEEEEEJia) will work their way down once josh RE------Signs.

Only 50% of the 2015 draft have committed beyond their initial contract.

For whatever reason, i.e. something to write about, its now expected that you MUST recommit to your employer when you are only half way through your contract.

Who else does that?
