Seems like someone on the Runours thread is pretty confident Schache will stay after talking to him at Christmas. For what it's worth.

In my view, assume lack of loyalty as the norm these days, expect the club to work hard to keep players satisfied and if they go, get good value for them.

I think we can differentiate between those pulled towards other clubs by the bright lights and fame (Aish, and good riddance), those traded for strategic purposes to bring more talent in (Crisp), those who have served the club well and want a change for other reasons (Patfull), those traded because it wasn't working that well enough for either party but no hard feelings (Hanley, Luenberger), and those who are disaffected and just want out (the infamous GH5).

It is the last type we have to avoid at all costs. The others will happen as part of the evolution of every AFL list.

But I really hope we can keep Schache!

Had a beer with him over Christmas as we are close family friends and without delving too deep I asked him where he sees himself playing football over the course of his career and his answer was simply 'Brisbane, no need to go anywhere'. He's relying on his football over the first half of the year to solidify his status amongst the list in relation to potential earnings. Doesn't want to leave, and ideally won't leave. Usually I don't get involved in these shitfights on bigfooty but quite frankly I'm over this 'everyone is leaving Brisbane' crap. Thought I might aswell contribute to something I know for certain to shut everyone up instead of these nobodies who allegedly have 'insider info' but are 99% of the time wrong. Take it to the bank/ close thread.

Would prefer 2 first rounders, Schache and Martin personally.
Not ready to write the young fella off yet.
IF we were to lose Schache to Richmond, IF we could throw enough $'s at Dusty to convince him to come up and IF Rockliff agreed to go to Richmond.

How about Schache and Ports first rounder for Dusty (significantly better than they would get as free agent compo). But on the proviso that tigers offer Rocky a big enough contract for compo after our first rounder.

But as you say would much rather we kept Schache - and Rockliff for that matter, just pointing out there are ways Noble and co could trade to the benefit of the Lions and him leaving would not be the end of the world.

Brief chat about many off contract players on the couch tonight including Schache, it was suggested that Hipwood has passed Schache and they should go after him, Browny loudly declared "they are both staying".
would be hard to tell but do you think that would be insider knowledge or speculation?
Has Browny had a chat to Schache during training?

Be happy to have a dip at Dusty just to drive his price up.

But honestly, pick above average humans and leaders until the place is full of above average humans and leaders.

Then, and only then, you might have the environment to take take on a guy with issues and have it work both ways.

It's the difference between Pikey and Fev. Both arrived with baggage but only one left better.

Brown dismissed it because he didn't want to hear the silly speculation when it went from Richmond being interested in schache to them talking about how they should go after Hipwood instead. Doubt he knows anything about schaches intentions.

Let's take Mitch as the happy exception to the rule.

- in a bad crowd in Melbourne
- had a young wife and child he cares deeply about.
- delisted from a club he loved and on his very last chance.
- he cost us base rate.

Not many tick all those boxes. Certainly not Dusty. Mitch had done great, but we know that's not how these stories tend to go.

Robinson knew he had ti behave if he was going to make it. **** knows what Dusty would do on the big $$$ and out of the spotlight.

Without sounding overdramatic I think this confirms his 10 year deal
No, no, no. Not confirmed until we can positively ID his mouthguard colour. Let's try to be scientific about this. Yes, Facebook picture is very strong evidence. But we all know that players buy mouthguards in the colours of the team they want to sign for. That's hard science people.
