I remember posting about who Josh was living with not too long ago. He mentioned in locker talk this week that his newest housemate is Witherden, so he must be living a with a few other players as well. Curious as to why he stopped living with Keays, Matho and Skinner so soon.
My guess is that Josh seems like the quiet type, and I can't imagine Keays and Matho are the quiet type. Witherden (as well as Berry and McCluggage) seems more the quiet type.

Probably got sick of Matho turning the air con up to maximum heating in the middle of summer!

I could be wrong, but I think you might have missed Elixuh 's point here.

If I understand properly, he's saying exactly this. Cooper Cronk can 'be honest' with the Storm for exactly the reasons you mention. He's a fully developed player who'll contribute this year, possibly towards a premiership, so Melbourne gets the value if they play him. In the alternative circumstance where it's a young player at a club like ours (the Schache example), it makes no sense for us to play a kid that is leaving because their short term contribution is minimal and another club gets the benefit.

It's not entirely a question of clubs being mature or immature. It works for Melbourne because of those specific circumstances.
100% correct.

I heard yesterday (second hand) from a reliable source that he is gone. Hasn't made mates in Brissy and is relatively detactched from the playing group. The club are working on him but the few players close enough to him know he will move back home.

Nothing the club has done, just hasn't clicked for him up there and wants to be closer to high school mates and fam.

Believe it or leave it, simply sharing. thats what I heard from what I believe to be reliable source.

Who knows what he'll do based on different opinions people have posted. Poster who knows his family and Josh well have said he is staying, just waiting until after mid year to pump up his value and others saying he's leaving. We'll find out soon enough.

Exactly, a fair few posters have said they know it first or second hand and each giving different "Fact" on what they think they know. As bad as it would be to lose Schache, if he does leave, at least we will have Hippy and hopefully Ballenden next year (although l think he has been inflated a bit, l just don't see it myself, Good against kids where he can use his weight and height but that wont work for seniors).

This is where I am at, I honestly am not too concerned if he were to leave as long as we are compensated.

Dunno. Clubs (including us) might rate pick 2 in this draft as better
Always based on needs though. He's a known quantity compared to a new draftee and clubs that need a key forward would rather take Schache than gamble on the draft, same as what the Hawks have been doing for years.

It really would be absurd if he leaves and an indictment on the league that a player can up and leave from a club in such a manner.

It has to raise questions about the club and why the league isn't doing more to protect clubs from such garbage.

If we win some games, the chances that he stays increases.

Part of me feels sympathies, with your one chance at being a professional athlete in life, why you would want to waste away in the Brisbane Lions system?.

We start winning and culture improves, more players stay, we are on the right track in that regard.

Regardless of the hype and innuendo, I am firmly in the camp to play him all season long.

For two reasons;

1) If he has decided to leave (or leaning that way), him having a change of heart and deciding to stick with the Lions has a damn sight better chance of occurring if he is playing regular games in the seniors, gelling with and being an integral part of the playing group and getting wins under our belt, rather than languishing in the ressies

2) It will only serve to increase his trade value if he does choose to leave end of the season, as we know he is very talented and will likely only improve this season with an extended run in the seniors...and the league will almost certainly take notice. Certainly will strengthen the "required key star player" argument if he becomes a focal point of our forward line this season, rather than just another "hyped prospect still largely valued on potential"

If he does leave after all of that, you certainly won't be able to ask the question "what if -". If he spends the majority of the season in the seniors, bags goals, improves and continues growing into that star forward we all think he is destined to become, and the Lions as a team unit grab a bunch more wins this year than last year (so much so that the general consensus by season end is that we are a dramatically improved team and on the up), and he STILL wants to leave....well, see you later. Lobby hard for adequate value in a high draft pick/s, and if clubs try to do the dirty and low-ball us, PSD or GTFO.

Player out of contract requests a trade to their home state. Pretty standard fare isn't it? Why would Schache be a special or "absurd" case?

What questions about the club? It appears the club has done everything possible to ensure his stay in Brisbane is welcoming, supportive, productive and profitable. What else can they do, when the post by lionsinthsand stated that he has not settled and nothing to do with what the club has done or hasn't done. What questions do you want to raise?

The only question would be longer rookie contracts for early draftees.

Something AFL should have done when FA was brought in. They still can do this now, but with AFLPA collective bargaining more focused on revenue sharing, this won't happen any time soon.

Or a limit to the amount of money a rival club can offer him to leave within the first 3 years.
