Future of the AFL (2030)

The Year is 2030, The AFL is flourishing under its new division system that was implemented in the 2023 season when 2 new teams entered the competition. Now with 24 teams (12 in each Division), there has been more close games than ever before. With some relocations and 6 new teams in the competition, the AFL is making more money and getting more people to games. With State of Origin finally making a return and the AFL returning the Reserves Competition, there has never been more footy to watch.

In this Portfolio I would be showing you the logo and jumpers of each team in the competition. Also with a description of what has happened to the teams and a description about there jumpers.​

Minor Details about how the Competition works

Season
23 round season
22 games
11 home games, 11 away games
Plays every team twice (once at home, once away)

Finals
Finals will only be played in the first division. There will be a 4 team finals series.
Week 1
1st vs 2nd(Qualifying Final)
3rd vs 4th(Elimination Final)
Week 2
Loser of the Qualifying Final vs the winner of the Elimination Final (Semi Final)
Week 3
Grand Final

Division 2 has promotion finals
1st in the division gets automatic qualification for promotion.
Teams that finished from 2nd to 4th plays in the promotion finals
The Promotion Finals will take place at the same time as the Premiership Finals
Week 1
2nd has a bye
3rd vs 4th (Semi Final)
Week 2
Promotion Final

Relegation from division 1 works like so
12th place gets automatically Relegated
There will be a relegation final in week 2 of the finals
10thvs 11th, the winner stays up in Division 1 while the loser goes down

Picks 11-12 are given to the teams that got promoted (Division 2)
Picks 13-14 are given to the teams that got relegated (Division 1)
Picks 15-24 are given to the teams that didn't get relegated (Division 1)

Important News about the Timeline
The timeline will start in 2019 onwards to 2030. The Timeline will consist of Expansion teams, Rebrands, new/ upgraded home grounds and relocations. If you don't get it now, you will get it after my first entry. Remember all the designs will be from the 2030 season.​

2019
Hawthorn Hawks
Home Ground: MCG (100,000)
Training/ Reserves Ground: Waverley Park/ Glenferrie Oval

Before the Divisions were announced. Hawthorn has just announced a total revamp of there club as a whole. while keeping their logo similar to what they had before, they have gone back to the old V style jumper but still keeping the stripes as a special jumper. Also on this day they announced that they would be ditching Launceston, at the end of the season, to be able to play more games at the MCG. Now back at their original home, Glenferrie Oval, while not completely leaving Waverley. things are looking bright for Hawthorn.
Now currently in Division 1, and with another premiership under there belt, Hawthorn is looking forward to the future and are getting closer to another premiership.​

2020
The Announcement
The year is 2020 and the AFL has made a shock announcement, that the AFL will expand to 20 teams and will split into 2 divisions of 10. this would come into play during to 2023 season. the expansion area hasn't been decided yet but the AFL is allowing state teams, other sporting teams, governments and well anybody to bid for a team.
Now looking back, this has definitely helped the AFL. With a team in every state, this is truely an Australian Football League.

Carlton Blues
Home ground: Docklands Stadium
Training/ Reserve Ground: Princess Park

After suffering another season with the horrid Grey Clash jumper, Carlton listened to their fans and brought back a White clash and the Baby Blue 3rd jumper. While finishing bottom of the ladder again, there is a lot of promise at Carlton at the end of the 2019 season.
Well now the year is 2030 and lets just say that Carlton have a curse of making promotion finals and not getting promoted. They are still a quality side but they can't get promoted. Carlton are currently stuck in Division 2 and will be staying there for a while unless a miracle happens.​

2021
Another Announcement
The the announcement last year about the Divisions, the AFL came out and made another Major Announcement. The AFL would be introducing a reserves competition. it would work like the main comp, with divisions and would be a totally seperate competition to the main. With this, the state league teams were in strife, especially in Victoria.
Now the state leagues have survived but with some casualties. No teams has folded but have merged to stay alive.
Gold Coast Suns
Home Ground: Carrara Stadium (30,000)
Training/ Reserve Ground: Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre/ Fankhauser Reserve

The Year is 2021. the Gold Coast Suns has just made a shock merge/ alinement with the Southport Sharks. The Suns bought the Sharks after the news that the AFL would be bringing back the reserve competition. The Suns also bought them to bring some more supporters and credibility. With this the Suns made a total rebrand of their jumpers to represent the Sharks and also to get rid of their "basic" original jumper. The Suns hope this merger would boost the Suns to a finals birth.
Now in 2030, with an upgrade to Carrara Stadium, the Suns are flying and staying put in the first division. the upgrade came about because they were selling out games every week. They have still not won there first premiership but are getting closer every year.

Greater Western Sydney Giants
Home Ground: Sydney Showgrounds Stadium (30,000)
Secondary Home Ground: Stadium Australia (for Finals and Major home games)
Training/ Reserve Ground: Blacktown International Sports Park

Also in 2021, the GWS Giants decided to do a rebrand of their jumpers. They decided to go with a basic striped jumper but they didn't want to be like a Collingwood or North Melbourne rip off so, they did a simple 2 stripes on the right side. Nobody really knows why they decided to go with this design. It was meet with outrage at first, but over the season fans started to like the change. The season ended with a top 4 position and a grand final birth. Not winning the premiership but the future look great for the Giants.
Now in 2030, GWS won back to back premierships in 2022-2023. this granted an upgrade to the Showgrounds Stadium to 30,000. Still in division 1, the Giants were close to being relegated this year before "The Great Escape" occurred. Winning there last 6 games to get out of the relegation battle. Now playing a couple of games at the Olympic Stadium (including Finals), the West of Sydney is officially AFL territory.

2022
North Melbourne/ Tasmania Kangaroos
Home Ground: Docklands Stadium (54,000), Bellerive Oval (30,000), 4 home games each
Secondary Home Grounds: York Park (30,000), 3 home games
Training/ Reserves Ground: Arden Street/ North Hobart Oval

For this team we need to head back to the year 2019. After the announcement that the Hawthorn Football Club would be ditching Launceston, North Melbourne decided to "relocate" to Tasmania. this was meet with backlash by the fans of North, so they decided to still play 4 home games each year in Melbourne and the rest in Tasmania. The fans supported this option way more than fully relocating to Tasmania. Now in 2022, this is the first year of the North Melbourne Tasmania Football Club. Now having 2 fortresses in Hobart and Launceston, they won 6 out of their 7 home games in Tassie. Finishing in the top 8 this secured them in the top division for next year.
Now in 2030, the kangaroos are looking to add more games in Tassie (mainly Hobart) to become Tassie's team. Despite the failed attempt to get their own team, Tasmania has fully in-braced the Kangaroos as their own. Their is a plan in place to fully relocate to Tasmania in the pipeline but, North Melbourne will live on and their legacy will never die.

Fremantle's Major Plan
With Fremantle shocking record at home, dwindling attendances and not just feeling a "home". Fremantle with the Western Australian Government and the City of Fremantle, The Docker devised a major redevelopment of Fremantle Oval. this includes a 45,000 seat Stadium which the Dockers will call home to. The Redevelopment will be done by 2029.​

Now before we get back into the Timeline, I need to go over a couple of teams that haven't really changed.
West Coast Eagles
Home Ground: Perth Stadium (60,000)
Training/ Reserves Ground: Lathlain Park

Now in 2030, the Eagles have won their 4th and 5th Premierships in recent years. With still Selling-Out games at the Perth Stadium, The Eagles are becoming one of, if not, the Biggest Club in Australia. The State Government of WA are planning for a 4th tier upgrade to the Perth Stadium to make it a 100,000 seat stadium. This is to try and persuade the AFL after the MCG contract is up to play the Grand Final at the Stadium. The jumpers that the eagles are currently wearing is the Royal Blue home, The original home as their clash and a navy, gold and ochre 3rd. The Eagles are currently in Division 1 and don't look like going down anytime soon.

Melbourne Demons
Home Ground: MCG (100,000)
Training/ Reserves Ground: (New) Yarra Park Oval

The Melbourne Football Club are currently in Division 2 but are still playing at their historic home, the MCG. They are still a big club but they have been up and down the divisions for years. The Dee's have turned away the NT in 2024 and hasn't looked back since. now playing all their home games back at the Home of Sport and with a new training base, the Demons are trying to get back up into division 1 where they belong.​
