Great to see the letter from Kylie. There’s lots to fix but reason to believe the coach has what it takes.

I do worry this list just isn’t good enough. List managers going to have to work miracles over the next two off seasons for this not to be a cliff situation

It was another box ticked off on her to do list for the end of season. Every President will do the same thing to round off the season.

Subject: A Heartfelt Apology for the 2023 Season

Dear Western Bulldogs Fans,

I hope this email finds you well. As we reflect on the recently concluded 2023 season, I wanted to take a moment to address you, our dedicated and passionate supporters, directly.

First and foremost, I want to express our sincere apologies for the way this season unfolded. We understand the disappointment and frustration that many of you may be feeling. The Western Bulldogs have always strived to deliver excellence on the field, and this season's performance fell short of both our expectations and yours.

We understand that our loyal fans invest not only their time but also their emotions into supporting our team. The dedication you show, rain or shine, is the backbone of our club, and we deeply regret not being able to reward your unwavering commitment with the success we all hoped for.

Rest assured, we are committed to learning from our mistakes and taking the necessary steps to ensure a more positive future for the Western Bulldogs. The coaching staff, players, and management are already hard at work analyzing the season, identifying areas for improvement, and planning the way forward.

Your feedback and continued support are invaluable to us. We will be actively engaging with fans in the coming months to hear your thoughts, concerns, and suggestions. Together, we will rebuild and strive for a stronger, more competitive season in the future.

Once again, please accept our heartfelt apologies for the 2023 season. We share in your disappointment, and we are dedicated to restoring your faith in the Western Bulldogs. Thank you for your unwavering support; it means more to us than words can express.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

So Bevo is really staying....

Losing to one of the worst teams in the modern era and missing the top 8 is apparently not grounds enough for a sacking. Ridiculous...

We will never be able to become a ruthless club with this board.

What a huge waste of a premiership window since 2017.

Membership is being cancelled - not wasting money on a club who doesn't care about winning.
Because the players seem to be behind him? They will only sack him if we finish down the bottom six, or the playing group come out and request change or revolt, which does not seem to be the case. If the players want him to stay, what good will it be sacking him? Divide the club even further by pissing the players off? I will always stand by what the players and captain say.

The word that seems to be going around, is even the players recognize the need for better resources around them. We have clearly been spending peanuts on the soft cap since we gutted a lot of staff around Covid, and have not invested it back into the club. Staff levels seem smaller, assistants are rookies, fitness staff made us unfit, given we always came out flat in third quarter and couldn't run out games.

Invest in a proper coaching structure, then see how it goes. If nothing improves, then boot him. If it improves, then it shows we got it wrong by hiring apprentices and not experienced coaches across our lines, and mismanaged the club post Covid.

Also our list is overrated, people need to stop thinking we are a sure fire top 4 team, consistent finishes on the fringes of the eight shows that is where we have always been. Even with a new coach, we still have holes in the list that won't be fixed over night and may not see us climb high in one season. We have no pace in the midfield, half the team cannot lay a tackle or kick, defence is still poor one on one. Need to improve the list as much as we need to improve the coaching.

Without googling tell me who Collingwood, Brisbane, Port and Melbournes presidents are? You won't know most because it isn't there Job CEO/Head of Football whatever weird and wonderful names they call it nowadays are the public faces hence why during Richmonds prime years you saw far more of Gayle then Peggy
Well personally I loved the fact that Peter Gordon was a vocal spokesperson for the club when he was president. He was positive, assertive and very available.

It helps the supporters / members feel like they have a better insight into the administration of the club.

If the players are such fans of Bevo and want him to stay maybe they should start playing like it. Not losing to West Coast would have been a good start.
I suspect bevo is going too easy on them on a lot of occasions and there are some mentally weak players on our list that don't mind that comfort zone.

With our fitness team also being (apparently) moved on, hopefully it’s a lot more running on the agenda. Too often we are visibly outran by our opponents in speed, distance, repeat efforts etc.

We got shamed by the Eagles, who were torn to shreds throughout the season for being too unfit. Too often watching games I don’t see enough running in general from our players in chasing, leading and most importantly, working off the ball to drag an opponent away knowing full well you aren’t actually going to get the ball, just doing the team thing.
How is our fitness team an issue when we have had this much vaunted partnership with VU for many years? Of all the things that could be an issue I would have thought VU would give us the external checks and balances to ensure we were elite in that area of development?

Part of the reason for the fallaway in my mind is not having the Whitten Oval available. Having to train at Skinner Reserve and other venues doesn't promote stability.
As far as the soft cap issue. Most of that issue was created by having a coach on massive coin.
That limited the ability to hire better assistants.
I am happy to be wrong and will admit when I am. The facts are that a very high percentage of supporters are not happy with Beveridge as coach. Obviously some are just miserable at any coach we may have. However what is really apparent to me with my Dogs acquaintances that are generally level headed, is that Bevo stinks.
Most, extremely grateful for 2016. But frustrated with extreme inconsistencies in performance.

I don’t necessarily think universities are at the cutting edge of elite sport. They’re probably two to three steps behind with fitness and nutrition etc that moves at such a rapid pace at the very pointy end of truly professional performances. As well as the mindset/mindfulness leaps that are happening organically throughout the sporting world as well. By the time a university works these things out and solidifies their ideas, it has already been improved upon somewhere else.

VU basically saved Easton Wood's career, so there's that.

I would have thought we might be able to use the partnership to do a bit of creative accounting with the soft cap. Some sort of sponsorship or partnership that allowed VU to hire some highly credentialed part time lecturers who worked out of the bulldogs base whilst conducting 'research'.

I've also thought it would be handy to get someone with links to the club and VU to do some longitudinal research into the psychology of professional footballers starting with highly touted junior footballers and trying to identify what makes some go on to success and others fail.

I am not the University expert but what I have heard is that Victorian University is not one of the highest ranking universities in Australia and targets area like health and trade

In a way I find it more concerning that the WC loss wasn’t a case of Bevo losing the players.

Because that was the only reason that would have made sense.

Is the group that fragile that sacking a line coach ruined the season? Did we genuinely get done at home by the worst team in the modern era, with finals on the line, for no reason other than we’re s**t?

Our list is nowhere near as good as the the experts think.
We have 15 A and B graders the last 8 C and D graders who wouldn't get a game at Hawthorn or North.
Our top A graders carry the club on match day.
The challenge next year is going to be fast tracking the development of the bottom 16-30 players on our list and coming up with enough players to be worthy of being in the best 22 of a premiership contending side.

I'm looking at guys like Darcy, O'Donnell, West, Poulter, A Jones, Cleary, Garcia, Busslinger, Clarke, Gallagher, Bedendo etc. There's a lot of talent amongst those guys but a good chunk of them must step up from fringe/youth talent to become serious contributors at AFL level if we want to rebound quickly.

Agreed. If the team were united behind their coach and knew they needed to win to play finals against the worst team in decades, then that abysmal performance is massively concerning. At points in the first quarter if you were watching with no context you'd have thought players were tanking - some of English's efforts in that quarter spring to mind, as do a few handballs straight to opposition players from our mids, and the woeful attempts at chasing/tackling from a number of players.

That was a bottom 2-4 team performance, and that was with another pretty decent Bont game. It doesn't portend well for next year.

To look at this with a glass half full approach - it’s extremely difficult to draft/recruit elite players (unless you’re a large Vic club who can simply poach from GWS and GC). We’ve nailed that aspect, it’s now just a matter of filling out the list with quality role players. I’d much rather be in our position than someone like the Saints who have quality role players across the board, but a serious lack of elite top end talent, meaning that taking the next step is miles from their reach currently

100% Correct. We also need our A graders to at least maintain and our younger B graders to push towards A Graders, older B graders to maintain and importantly across the board on field leaders to step up and support Bont
