I may have missed an update but from what Towmey was saying it looks like you’ll have to match with only your next 2 picks. I don’t think they was confirmed but he’s usually on the money.

Yep. Basically the type of trade between Essendon/Carlton won't happen again as it would not have helped Carlton at all under the new rules incoming.

The clubs have been told zero discount and only two picks to match. For someone like the Lions this year (pick 18, but a player bid in the top 6) they'll either need to bring forward their future first or let a valuable player go to get a pick in the right area to make up the points.

I both hate it (because bias) but don't mind it, because it still leaves later guys relatively easy to match and IMO that's where the meat and potatoes of the academies should be - those 5-20 players that won't get poached.

Agreed - whether by choice or not, we seem to be getting more meat n potatoes type academy hits than top end draft talent like Suns have been getting over the years. I'm happy with that strike rate to be honest.

Isn’t it 2 picks + future deficit to match?
