Hard to believe none of those three were selected. Oh well. More motivation for them to win the flag with Palmy this year!

Not in response to any particular poster, but there are 18 players invited to the Draft Combine who are 180cm or shorter. Seems AFL teams are going away from the selection policy of overlooking sub 6 foot tall players and are right into the Connor Budaricks of the world. And another thing, in future when comparing a 175cm tenacious little forward/midfielder, take a look at Shaun Hart's career and compare it Zayne Dorko's. One is an undisputed champion and the other is the flog who refused to shake Touk's hand.

Graham and A.Crossley are lining up for the Palmy seniors tomorrow in their QAFL grand final qualifier against Broady. I assume Dirk Koenen and Bailey Scott aren't allowed to play because they were invited to the national combine and Graham is allowed to play because he's only been invited to the state combine?

Broadbeach have quite a few of our academy guys playing for them tomorrow too - Boakye, Bowie, Oea and Conroy. Anyone heading down to Salk to watch this game tomorrow arvo?

Caleb Graham was named in the bests for Palmy today and kicked a goal. PBC won and will now have the week off before facing Broady/Surfers/Morningside in the GF in two weeks. I expect Graham to play again and it's looking likely that he'll play in back-to-back QAFL premierships for Palmy before we draft him.

The National Draft Combine isn't until October 2nd. Most of the Victorian Draft invitees played TAC Cup on the weekend unless they were injured. South Australian kids played SANFL. WA kids played WAFL. I don't know why Scott and Koenen missed the weekend's games, but I would like to know.

TAC Cup is a different story. It makes sense for the best U18 Victorian players to continue to compete in the best U18 competition in Australia.

SANFL and WAFL are on the same level as the NEAFL whereas the QAFL is considered a tier below. I think that's why they rule players who have been invited to the national combine ineligible to compete in QAFL finals. The same thing happened last year when Brayden Crossley wanted to line up for Palm Beach in the QAFL Grand Final but was told he couldn't (Goober was also invited to the national combine last year). He ran water for PBC that day instead.

Therefore, I believe Scott and Koenen have been ruled ineligible to compete in the QAFL finals while Caleb Graham, just like Jacob Dawson and Jacob Heron last year, has been able to compete. I can't think of any other reason why this would be the case other than the one I've put forward.

Well done Sharks on winning the colts flag and the NEAFL premiership in the same year. We know Southport used to produce many AFL draftees (mostly through stealing talented juniors from other GC clubs) but without a senior reserves team these days, it's very difficult for the Sharks to retain talent all the way up to the age of 18. The current system sort of forces juniors to play for a QAFL team in their draft year once they can no longer play for the Suns NEAFL team.

For anyone interested, Palm Beach are playing in the QAFL seniors, reserves AND colts grand finals next weekend so there is definitely a lot of footy talent at Palm Beach and Southport these days!

Hearing from family friends of the Scotts that Bailey Scott is due to meet with north Melbourne and geelong officials this week. Doing his due diligence hopefully we have a preferred destination in the coming weeks.

Father-son draft prospect to make call on future

DRAFT prospect Bailey Scott will meet with Geelong, North Melbourne and Gold Coast in coming weeks as he gets closer to making a call on his preferred destination.

The midfielder is in a rare position where he can join the Cats and Roos as a father-son pick, given his dad Robert played more than 100 games at both clubs.

But he is also a member of the Suns Academy and is eligible to join Gold Coast under that system given he has lived in its Queensland zone for more than five years.

He will meet each club before next month's NAB AFL Draft Combine with a decision likely to be made shortly after the catch-ups.

The clubs also need to establish their priorities and where they see Scott fitting, with the hard-running wingman seen as a possible second-round pick.

Scott has until closer to November's NAB AFL Draft to lodge his preferred home, but under the revised father-son and Academy bidding system which came in 2015, he will also be able to enter other preferences.

It means should a bid come on Scott from a rival club and his first preferred club does not want to match it, the next club on his preferences will be able to jump in and match the bid.

Scott has enjoyed a consistent season and was named an under-18 All Australian after a strong championships while captaining the Allies when he averaged 24 disposals a game.

The 186cm 18-year-old can also push forward and has shown he has a top-end endurance base.

Fellow NAB AFL Academy graduate Nick Blakey faced a similar choice to Scott earlier this season when he had the option of joining Brisbane or North Melbourne as a father-son, or Sydney as an Academy member.

In what was not a surprise to recruiters, Blakey, who could attract a top-10 bid, chose the Swans and informed the clubs of his decision in April.

However, there has not been as clear a frontrunner for Scott as his call draws nearer.

Scott has been a member of North Melbourne's father-son program for some time, where Robert played 113 games including the 1996 premiership.

Robert started his career at Geelong, playing 132 games for the club between 1986-94.

Bailey trained with the Cats and Roos during the off-season to get a feel for both clubs and has also come through the Suns Academy and worked closely with its coaching and conditioning staff in recent years.

Looks like we're going to find out pretty soon if Bailey wants to join us.

Ace just burst through the middle with a couple of bounces and put his inside 50 onto the chest of McGuane, who also rattled the post. Matthew Conroy rucking for Broady just took a lovely mark - Cal Twomey thought he might be a dark horse for a rookie spot given the shortage of ruckmen in the AFL.

Just to follow up on this - Graham finished with one goal but perhaps more notably looked really serviceable as a pinch hitting ruckman around the ground. It's good to have a tall with versatility. Playing in back-to-back QAFL senior premierships with Palmy should do Caleb's confidence a world of good as well.

So how many brothers of current players are we going to draft next year? Ashton Crossley (Brayden's brother), Ethan Dawson (Jacob's brother) and Corey Joyce (Jesse's brother) are all draft eligible next year and are all likely to be picked in our U18 academy/TAC Cup team next year.

It will be interesting to see. Last year in November, the Academy sent out an U18 squad Summer training invitations list. It was before the Draft because Crossley, Nutting, Dawson and Heron are on it. Ashton, Corey and Ethan were all on the list last year, so I imagine they will be in the mix.
