on the past month's form, the Demon's have a better idea of what Coach Bailey's game plan is, while the skill level of the players is often criticized and cause a lot of turnovers, the Dee's have shown some great improvement from a few years back.

In saying that, do you think the Dee's should look at the possibility of trading for ex-Victorian players that are now either playing for interstate AFL teams or on the fringe of the best 22 in those sides? (obviously we should be targeting players who are versatile but can play in a certain position)

looking back on previous Drafts and those ex- victorian players who may be on the fringes at their interstate club like Scott Selwood, Mitchell Farmer, Travis Boak, Brent Reilly, Richard Douglas, Chris Knights, Ashley Hansen, Robbie Gray, etc without giving away key players going forward like Davey, Morton, Bennell, Mclean, etc and future first round picks????

Do you seriously know what your talking about? Or do you like wasting ppls time?

I believe that a player can only be a rookie for 2 years before they have to be promoted or delisted, thats why a decision about Spencer and Valenti and Zomer will have to be made. I reckon Spencer will be promoted for sure to keep him. With Valenti and Zomer delisted unless they have big seasons.

with meeson and garland now on the LTI list we've upraded spencer and valenti. Now if they both show enough hopefully they will both be kept on the senior list for someone else departing. but i think Zomer will go, he hasn't shown much at sandy/casey and hes still in the reserves down there so not much progress.

Sorry if I was a bit unclear in the original post - seems to happen alot lately

Boak, Knights, S. Selwood and his two interstate brothers, and others are not necessary fringe players, but they are from Victoria and will at some stage contemplate the "going home" factor at some stage during their career. we will be fighting with 10 other clubs if they did decide to return to Vic, but it's a real exciting time at the club and especially the way the club is developing and the way the players are performing, why wouldn't they pick a team on rise?

Colin Sylvia has arguably shown the most improvement out of anyone this season, looks to have gotten fitter and it's shown in his performances in my opinion.

can't wait until Watts and possibly Jurrah pull on the jumper hopefully at some stage this year, not sure how Liam has been playing lately, heard he was playing 2's in VFL, but is a very exciting player

i have a feeling you will go for thorp, wont like it, will be a gun. only reason he is struggling at BH is that he is being used in 10 dif possies every match.

Here we call that Brad Miller syndrome, once settled in a position can do very well.

Wouldn't mind us having a crack at getting Thorp, whether we actually do is unlikely but I'd hope we do have a look.

It has been reported that he was going to be groomed & made into a tall defender as opposed to what he was originally drafted as - a tall forward. The Hawks still have injuries to their key tall backman yet he still can't get a game, coupled with the fact that he won't get a game in front of Franklin or Roughead - I believe makes him likely trade material.

I would like us to pick him up, but at the same time I wouldn't be giving up a 1st round draft pick. I would consider giving up an early 2nd round draft pick this year as it has been widely reported that there isn't a graet deal of depth in this years draft pool. He fits our requirements being a young tall forward & I'm sure if he was at Melbourne - he would be just about guaranteed a game each week.

Better still, he is the type of player you would love to lure for nothing via the PSD if out of contract.

He was meant to be groomed into a defender, but at BH, he is truely being moved to dif possies every 5 mins, very difficult to find your feet.

I highly doubt clarko would be trading thorp for a 2nd rounder (given he was pick 6. There would be some sort of combo invloved to get your 2nd pick (will/should be pick 3-4).

Personal opinion, he is a great mark, and accurate kick, a little slow on the lead, but such a big unit that speed isnt an issue in marking.

I believe he still has one more yr left on his contract, however, it hasnt stopped players being traded in the past.

I cant see us parting with our first round pick (or picks.. if we don't win more than 4 games...) unless Ablett wants out of Geelong, which probably won't happen i'd suspect...

Maybe a second round pick if there's a suitable Ruckman on the move...

Like others have said, clubs will be looking to hold onto their early picks due to the GC draft concessions.

I just don't see that we have any players who could command a 1st round pick that we would be prepared to offload.

I think the plan should be to pick the best available talent with the early pick/s (round 1), and maybe look to trade for an experienced ruckman with a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

There's no way in hell a quality tall forward would be available to trade for.
It just doesn't happen. Not that often at least...

We also need to hold onto Green & Bruce. Trading them would just be stupid. We have a young list that needs some quality elder statesmen to lead the way. I think Whelan could be in that same boat too...


As for Thorp. Haven't really seen enough of him TBH. He's had injury problems and doesn't seem to play as a KPP from what i've heard. Wouldn't get a 1st rounder for him i'd suggest at this stage...

Also, remember, hawthorn are very..... stubborn when it comes to trading, haha. The sweetner (should it go ahead) will be the fact the Hawks will be paying thorps contract for a yr.

Won't happen Mitchell. Thorp is unproven at AFL level. No recruiting manager in their right mind would orchestrate that deal. No offence to Thorp, but those top 3 generally stand out every year, and if we're gonna trade that high for Thorp, then he'd have to be pretty special. I'm not convinced TBH..

I mean you wouldn't expect us to do something similar for Dowler would you??

You got Luke Hodge for McPharlin and friggin' Croad in 01'. Only Fremantle do those sort of deals

The only player I'd trade for would be a Ruckman thats surplous to his clubs needs.
Which one I'm not sure as I don't really study the opposition these days.
