If he EVER walked into our clubrooms with that oh so gay bun i would attack him with a pair of gardening shears.who told him it looked cool? WHO????

Schofield and Wellingham?

Actually Schoey has finally seen the light and chopped the stupid thing off.

Man Bun's aka "Pull Starter for a F***witt" :D

Even if Fyfe nominated us how would we land him?

He won't go as a free agent with Freo getting one pick for him, they will match the bid and a trade would be needed.

Two first rounders would be the starting point, 2017 and 2018 and a player. Who?

MacKenzie will be a FA and we may get a 2nd rounder for him but more importantly free up $600k.

Out of contract Buler, Wellingham, Le cras, Karpany, Hill plus others. NickNat would need to take a pay cut or move it around and I think he'd do that after getting paid full tote odds after a year off with a knee, big risk in any long term, high value contracts with Nic from now on. Yeo make or break contract value wise this year as well, was a Freo fan as well so possibly the "steak knives" in the deal?

So I think if Fyfe nominated us we could make the salary cap available and even offer two first rounders (2017+18) + Yeo. In the end I think Freo would simply refuse to deal with us because of the rivalry.

I have a theory that "salary cap issues" was a polite way for the club to tell Frodo we weren't interested

We also have Lecras and Mackenzie coming to the end of what were lucrative contracts this year

And as it stands clubs don't actually know what the salary cap is for this year and beyond because the collective bargaining agreement hasn't been finalised yet - it's quite possible (and prudent) that they've framed their contracts towards a lower figure

It's also possible that a 800k to 1 mil Fyfe is just simply too expensive. We don't have a young unproven list that are on small contracts. Its a proven, mature list with recognized star players.

you a probably spot on with all points. Hopefully the salary cap stuff is resolved soon and looks like it will be.

Also looks like whatever the final cap number is players contracts will have backdated pay rises.

The clubs have increased their salary caps by 10 per cent this season after an AFL directive when the CBA was not resolved in time for club list projections. However the players will be rewarded with a backdated pay rises when that number moves closer to 20 per cent.

You'd have to be a bit naive to think otherwise really.

The cap is about to go up 20%, that's $1.4m extra cap space and 12 months on is a different scenario. MacKenzie is on $600k, Nic Nat likely won't earn as much as his last contract after a knee and can be easily topped up with marketing $$. Le cras in the same boat and Mitchell can be paid a top up as soon as he finishes and enters coaching.

And I suspect many of our players will want pay increases: Shuey, Gaff, McGovern, Shephard, Darling, Sheed, Cripps, Barrass, etc

Not saying it's impossible but to say finding a million dollars in the salary cap for one player in a mature, premiership contending list is not an issue is a joke.

Look at Hawthorn having to offload star veteran players just to bring Mitchell and O'mera in. Why do you think WC has some magic formula that will make them exempt for that same salary constraints?

I agree with you.

This year we probably have to give a pay rise to Sheed and Nelson. Hopefully we get another year of Mitchell but Hawthorn wont help pay for that one.

That's not too bad considering LeCras and MacKenzie will probably get re-signed for less.

After the 2018 season, however, we have to sign a few guys who are currently under contracts which were signed before they were well established. Lycett, for example, signed his last contract in 2014. After the 2018 season Scott will probably require a hefty pay day. Likewise Cripps, Yeo will probably require a slight bump. Then there's McGovern, who's made an All Australian team since his last contract and there's the chance that big money gets thrown at Gaff and Duggan from other clubs.

So we could probably splash out after this season but if we take it too far it might backfire down the line.

Obviously, I'd like sign Fyfe but it'll hurt if it costs a few picks in a trade and then costs Gaff as a free agent.

Here's an interesting question, can anyone put their hand up and say that they have actually met Nat Fyfe and talked to him for at least a couple of minutes ?.

Wasn't your new player Mr Mitchell, supposed to be a figjam at the Hawks ?. Well that's what Bigfooty told me !!!!!.

Reality is regularly different from what you think.

Onward and upward.

Have to agree with you on this one. Fyfe is well spoken and that gives the impression of arrogance and all that stuff but he's probably ok. The true dickheads get pushed from club to club as a rule... That's not saying that other multiple club players are dickheads of course. If Fyfe signed up that'd be great, but I wonder if he has another 100 games in that gammy leg of his

Mitchell will be preaching the Hawthorn formula to win flags, players need to share the money to win and that will also mean Fyfe should he nominate us.

Shuey, Gaff, McGovern and Kennedy deserve increases (Kennedy I feel is on a pretty good deal now). Sheedy a tad but not a lot. Darling and McGovern have recently re-signed and Darling hasn't delivered enough to demand silly money.

$1.4m cap increase, MacKenzie last year on $600k and the likes of Priddis, Mitchell and Butler are year to year deals and would be on less than previous contracts. Mitchell will get an inflated coaching salary when he starts. NicNat I feel won't get as much in the future as he's on now due to his knee.

We won't be "buying" a Fyfe type quality player nor should we. If players want $1 million + for multiple years go play for bottom four sides (or ones with COLA allowances:mad:) and bank the cash. If they want to be premiership players they agree to take less.

Truth is nobody outside the club knows what our salary cap situation is nor how contracts have been structured bearing in mind that all clubs need to be paying a minimum of 95% of the cap

Fyfe is going to be getting some extraordinary contract numbers thrown at him - whether we can fit him under the cap is a moot point imo as I think paying him the money needed to shift him from Fremantle would be irresponsible. It's not healthy for one player to be commanding such a large percentage of your salary cap

Pretty sure it's a hypothetical.

Shane on them for having a chat on an open forum.

News article states Eagles aren't interested.

If that was Hackdorn writing it Fyfe will be an Eagle next season.:D

It would be a total shock if Fyfe ended up being traded to us, almost as big a shock as say Sam Mitchell coming to us this year.

No it would be a bigger shock than a 35 year old at end of his career.
