Fyfe retires

One of my favourite memories of Fyfe was the game vs Adelaide in Adelaide. The coaches just let Fyfe & Dangerfield go head to head all night. It was a ding-dong battle with Freo just winning and Fyfe just shaded Dangerfield towards the end. Fyfe ended up getting the 3 Brownlow votes & Dangerfield 2.

I'm so glad the coaches just let them go like the old days, no taggers or anything like they new it was going to be a battle for the ages. I'm pretty sure Adelaide coach was Phil Walsh - RIP.

Had tickets to Fridays game weeks ago to introduce my Safa and Pom mates to the joys of Freo footy. Now this shit got really real. Fyfey is our best ever and by christ will we give him the send off he deserves. Do it for Fyfe.

Of all footy retirements, this one cuts the deepest. Seems to have passed so quickly. What a consummate professional. There's something to learn from Fyfe's preparation even for those of us in other walks of life. It's been a pleasure following the great man's career.

A sad day for freo fans everywhere. Fyfey is my favourite AFL player ever, by some distance. An absolute champion and all time great. For about 8 years there he was just about unstoppable. The best contested ball player ever I would argue.

We should be really thankful that a player of his quality played for our club. In many ways he put freo on the map. Those brownlows years were dominant and iconic, and made him a superstar of the comp.
The fact that he’s is a one club player too, is also something that to me is worth a little more than some of these other champions that moved clubs.

Have said it before but you could wait 50 years to see a player of that level play for your footy club as an AFL fan. Particularly in terms of the level of individual excellence he reached.
Fyfey is one of the main reasons I became such a big footy fan and I’ll always appreciate the great moments and joy he gave us fans on many occasions.

Finally - if this side can’t use this wave of emotion to surge onto finals and absolutely throw the kitchen sink at winning the flag - well I don’t know what will inspire them.
We should be running through brick walls for this man this weekend v Brisbane.

That was such a great battle to witness. Almost 10 years ago, time flies.

Fyfey will always be a legend of the Freo Football Club, but my favourite moment is the love and care he showed for one of the starlight children Milli Lucas, i think the game was against Port Adelaide 2019.
Just showed he was a champion footballer but also a person of the highest quality
