List Mgmt. Fyfe to Adelaide..wild rumour.

Seriously Fyfe won't leave Freo let alone come here. This thread is emabarrassing. Enough.

Fyfe wont come here. Thats for sure. He "accidentally" confirmed he is staying in Freo for the next 5 years in a doco that was released only a few weeks ago.

With that said 6 months is a long time in footy.

Fyfe is a restricted free agent, so depending where Freo finish, they may match any offer.

The cats need to trade in a 2nd 1st rounder, so they have nothing to trade Ablett for.

Fyfe you just need to put up more money than Freo is willing to match.

Trading in a first rounder and trading in Ablett are 2 separate trades. Ablett will not require a first round pick or the kind of player that would attract a first round pick. Hell, for the money he's on, Gold Coast would probably give Geelong a first round pick just to take him off their hands.

Freo have more cap room than most, so will have the ability to match if they don't get a good enough compensation pick.

The Cats need to trade in a 1st rounder, so they have no trade currency for Ablett. They will be struggling to find a 1st rounder, let alone a pick for Ablett.

Yep Freo can spend the farm on one player ( Fyfe) and drip feed the kids over the next 3-4 years.

And I think thats what they will do too. But to what end is my question. If the finish last and let him leave as an RFA then they can get both the 1st and 2nd picks. They can also front end some other players and then free up a massive war chest to use in 3 or 4 years time.

Looking at their list I can actually only see one top player outside of Fyfe and that is Neale. I think Walters and the older Hill boy are also very good second teir players and Weller lools promising. But they probably do have youngsters that will also develop into players. Its time for them to rebuild and letting Fyfe go for pick 1 is an opportunity that they shouldn't pass up. If they were my club thats what I would be wanting in their situation.

Players turn down more money from other clubs to stay put all the time.

If a Club is paying Fyfe 1.2mill the AFL compo would be a pick after freo's first AND a end of round 1st pick..... which could be pick 4 and 19, that's heaps better than anything they'll get from another club through trade.

Just a thought. : If you had 2 Fyfes would they be Fives?

Yes they do. But this whole conversation is based on the assumption that he'd want to leave. In which case you just have to stump up more cash than Freo can or will be willing to match. If he actually decides to stay there then the discussion becomes pretty much irrelevant.

That puts into contrast the deal that Carlton apparently wanted for Gibbs "2 first rounders". Albeit 4 is lots better than our 13 but 19 would be a bit less than our 2017 pick. Fyfe 3 times the player Gibbs is.

That's not how the compensation picks work, and before you bring up Ablett, that was a completely different scenario, Freo would get a single pick if he left as a free agent, the way they're playing it'll probably be pick 2, but they won't get a second pick as compensation.

Yeah, as much as having a top band like that would make sense for the absolute elite players, the AFL don't have one, instead a player like Frawley is deemed equivalent to Buddy Franklin.

Not just equivalent - he attracted a significantly BETTER compensation pick due to the positions that Melbourne and Hawthorn were occupying on the ladder at the time.
