Gaff - does he stay or go? Let me set the scene..

At his best, what is Swallow? Is he better than what Redden has done this season?

From what I've seen, I think Swallow would take a season and a bit to find his feet, much like Redden & Jetta, but once he was entrenched in our system he would be a better version of Redden. Think they play a pretty similar game style, Swallow might be a bit more of an inside ball winner. Think his spread is little average.

Here's an interesting game. Let's say Gaff leaves. In what order would you rank his departure in terms of "shitness" (sorry, couldn't come up with a better description) as compared with Judd's and Cousins' departures?

Worst to least worst for me:
Cousins
Gaff
Judd

by shitness I assume you mean how pissed off it made/will make supporters? for me...

Judd

Cuz (could see what was coming for a while)

As i arrogantly walked down the road today, i sat there, haughtily pondering this very question to myself.

I pompously dismissed it with a particularly imperious snort.

“As if hed want to go down and live with the poor”

I finished shitting on the little old ladies doorstep that had mildly irritated me, wiped my arse with a toddler and strode off. Kicking a dog absent mindedly I smiled a supercilious grin. Completely assured of my place in the world.

Its good to be the kings.

Excellent critique ...... however , sadly , you neglected to mention the two glasses of Chardonnay that you drank after your crap and wipe stunt.

It saddens me but I think he is gone .

I only hope we can get him and his manager Paul Connors to help us get a trade rather than pick 19 ish compo pick.
Its the least that he can do given he has left us short at a premiership tilt.

If we're looking at WA guys coming home, Swallow at the end of the next year is a far more attainable target - especially if Gold Coast continue to be shit and we're still in the mix. Both of which I don't see any reason to continue.

Swallow has not had the career that Coniglio has had but it's been very hard to flourish in the Gold Coast environment for anyone.
Is swallow what we need, I don't get to watch a lot of his games but he comes across to me as solid inside mid, hard at it with decent disposal but lacks abit of pace aswell as the ability to play other positions.

I feel with He will be fighting with the likes of Redden, Sheed, Hutchings for a spot otherwise we could be quite slow through the guts

Should i stay or should i go instantly plays in my head every time bloody see this thread.

Genuinely good question atm. If he's going to come to St Kilda, it'll be because we've offered at least an extra 200k per year, if not more.

Should get you a very nice compo pick wherever he goes though. And if he stays you're laughing.

Not a personal dig at your lot, more in regards to where the clubs headed. Richardson seems to have NFI and Gaff isn't instantly going to change that in any real way. It would have to be purely for money as you've stated.

We have more chance on Coniglio than Kelly.

Why would Kelly want to come to a club that overlooked him a couple of times? Geelong took a chance on him, I am sure he wants to repay their faith.

Even so I think it's highly unlikely Coniglio would want to return home. Seems like the ultimate professional that is able to play at an elite level at any club in the land. I think he'll be a one club player.

There were 17 other clubs aswell as Geelong that also overlooked him several times. I think it was pretty obvious (I'm sure he would know aswell) that if He was available at one of our later picks if not our next pick we were going to draft him ourselves.
But as it worked out Geelong beat us to it.

The fact his young family seems to b very home sick is more then enough reason to leave Geelong. And the future is looking bright at west coast which wouldn't hurt either

Judd trumped all for me.

Judds at the time hurt the most, Best player in the competition, he was a Brownlow medalist, premiership captain, Norm Smith medalist and was still only 25. I felt our best player dogged us in his prime when we needed him most. But the fact we got Kennedy easily makes it the least worse for me now.

Cousins hurt o it hurt we even knew it was coming and the club n ben had no choice but it didn't make it easier. It hurts my heart watching him in the tigers jumper to this day. Easily the worse

With Gaff it will suck but it can't hurt as much as Cousins or wen judd first left

I wouldn't think Swallow would be our #1 priority but seems a more likely target then someone like Coniglio who looks pretty set at GWS.

He would improve our midfield and if he came at the right salary then it would be remiss for the club not to at least look at it. If his manager is looking at the huge pay day then tell him to take a hike.

On current output he's pretty similar to Redden, but with a definite potential upside that his game could go to another level at a better club. Not many junior players have been rated as highly as Swallow, however we all know that doesn't necessarily translate to success at senior AFL level. But given the struggles with player development at the Suns, there's a definite chance the problem lies more with the club then the player in this instance. But at 25 years of age and having been in the Suns system for almost a decade the slide into "middle of the pack" performances might be permanent for Swallow, whilst (virtually) missing two seasons with injury doesn't help anyone.
