ok, never seen phatandphreaky post anything bad, i am guessing he has you on his ignore list, anyway lets let this topic get back on topic ...

some horses to watch out for:

Wonder Whale
Cutting Crystal
Round Cosmos (best breeding mare in the game)
Western tiger
Silly Carol
Endless Libra
Naive Sun

heaps of others but these are better breeders than most.

I've had gallop racer for 9 months, best game around for horseracing enthusists. Try this website, it is a hub for the ORL (i post as gobaggers)

Cheers Deej.

Was looking for some GR stuff on the net, but didn't have much luck.

Haven't noticed any of those horses being available, sadly.

My only problem with the game is the pre-training aspect. I simply cannot master the use of the sticks after using the pad during the game, which makes it impossible to train a horse to the level required.

Thus i haven't bred a horse for a couple of years, not worth wasting two years when nothing will come of it anyway.

you have to retire your oldest or poorest horses on 5th week of June to create space for your new 2yr olds who are available for purchase on 1/7 of every year. Also i would recommend playing the game on hard setting, it takes a lot longer to rack up the req'd jockey points but your original bred horses end up better than they do on easy level.

Cruise around that website for a while you will learn a stack about the game, what the horse real life equiv's are. eg, wonder whale is dubai millenium, sparking nova is sunline, sacred ridge is nashwan, bright opal is man'o'war (who if you haven't heard of he is america's equivalent to phar lap) and so on...

Once you breed some super colts or fillies you can send them to the states and they race them in these world league races, against horses entered by other gallop racer fans around the world.

You should register on that site on ask all the questions you want, there's some real experts there.

Shall do Deej, however whilst i cannot pre-train a horse properly, it will be impossible to make an original horse get to any quality races.

What are you doing wrong? Training isn't that hard. You just look at where the arrow's are pointing and as they cross the area where your indicator is you move each paddle in that direction. Admittedly it does take some getting used to, but you can practise with the gallop racer horse just click map then training then whatever speed stamina etc. The toughest one is discipline when the indicators only appear at the last minute, but the others you can see come down the page. If you practise this for a while it should become fairly easy for you to master. Besides, the training isn't the be all and end all if you can't master it you can just choose the easy option when you are prompted to train your horse, i think it's called auto.

This game can become pretty technical once you're slightly over the racing part of the game and are more into the breeding aspects. I don't even run a full stable any more, just 3 horses with different strengths (eg. sprinter, filly, stayer), the rest of the time i'm more trying to get decent cross lines in my breeding to produce monsters. It's a great game that has a lot more to offer than g1 jockey in this way, that's why they use it as the world racing platform and not g1j.

I simply cannot master using the sticks for training.

The basic moves are easy, however i still struggle to get the whip action working properly.

The discipline one is simply impossible for me at the moment.

Admittedly i haven't had a heap of practice with training, however i have done it with 3-4 horses, and no matter what style training i go for, i cannot get a score over 50.

I bred a filly whose sire won 14 G1's, and whose mare won 8 G1 races, yet after the six months of training, she was only listed as an E class horse.

The auto train option seems to give a pretty ordinary result, no better than when i try to do it myself.

I'm winning G1 races left right and centre, simply no good with the training, which makes breeding horses a waste of time.

One more question Deej.

If you buy a 2yo who is say, a dirt specialist, whose range is 10f-18f, do you enter it for unsuitable turf races (the only early options), or do you hold off for 3-4 months for races which are more suitable, in terms of both surface and distance?

Also, what do you consider the ideal condition for your horses? I wait until the little dot is blue before racing again, however once i noticed that a horse i didn't run for a while, had a yellow dot.

No mention of the meanings of the dot colours in the book, so i just assumed that blue meant the horse was ready to run, green meant it wasn't quite ready, and yellow meant that it had had too long between runs.

Firstly, the ideal time for a horse to run is when the dot is blue. Green is a little early, yellow and pink is definitely too late. I usually try to run my horses in first or 2nd week of the blue, unless i'm trying to win 'iron horse' which is attained by winning 12 G1's in a single racing year. Then, i'll even run em in the grey towards the end. Endless Libra is the only horse i've been able to win iron horse with, he has amazing health stats.

When breeding, a horse regularly starts out as an E class horse. Don't worry though cause it'll improve. Only the best bred horses start with anything around S or especially SS. You'd have to breed Endless Libra with Round Cosmos, then Western Tiger and Kinky Weapon or Silly Carol, and then race and mate the offspring of those two matings, and then you MIGHT get an offspring than is born rated an SS. But it'll still be a 1 in 20 shot. That's where things get complicated, sometimes you have to save a certain setting and keep mating over and over until you get the best mating. It can be a very technical and exhaustive process. But once you get all your best horses breeding you can save them on different memory cards and send them to the ORL (online racing league) and race your offspring against those from other GRacer fans from around the world.

As for racing different acquired horses, early i just race em in nearly everything although if they're poor on turf i would avoid it. Distances early on aren't crucial, most 2yr olds can sprint good.

Look out for an S rated horse called Beauty Value, it's a game version of Silver Charm the American champion of recent times. Wins most dirt races in the game and is reasonable value to purchase. But i must say i think the main thing you need to concentrate on is your jockey style, learn when to go for the whip to get the starburst, it does wonders for your horses ratings.

12 G1's?

Never counted, but i've only managed 17 G1 wins in over 2 years with my best horse. Couldn't possibly manage 12 in one year.

Oh, didn't know that.

I probably only get the starburst every 10 or so rides, but my jockey rating is superb, and i have no trouble winning.

Yes but are you playing the game on easy level?

Got sick of there being no good horse racing games so went and bought a PS2 and Gallop Racer last week.

Have had plenty of fun racing a mate head to head but only have just got stuck into the career mode. Think the year has just ended and I finished 2nd in the jockey table. (On easy) Think Ive only won 1 or 2 G1's and my best effort was getting an 88-1 shot across the line.

Looking forward to working out all this breeding aspect of the game!
