Gallucci and Atkins commit until 2020

Has Brown shown he can be more than a defender? I'm not convinced he could become a midfielder & don't see the need. Would like him to get more of the ball when not locking down on a dangerous forward.

With Gibbs' inclusion, we should look to use Sloane more in other roles, including up forward & across HB. Helps manage his workload & give us more flexibility to mix things up.

Every time I've seen Brown play more up the ground or as a tagger I've been impressed. Can kick a sweet goal too from anywhere on the ground.

It's a shame some of our least capable players are flagged as 'versatile' while truly versatile players like Sloane, Douglas and Brown are locked to one role.

Yep, versatility at our club is purely about finding roles for average players. We've been doing it fora decade. Nothing has changed yet.

How often has Brown played up the ground or as a tagger? I can't recall.

He is a good kick for goal... when he sneaks down.

I agree ....think Gallucci looks a clone of Douglas .....but has a few more tricks than Dougy
I don't really think he has any more "tricks" than Dougie, what he has are superior athletic attributes to Dougie which hopefully he can fully harness to make himself a game changer for us.

Clarkson's premiership Hawks had flexibility & they were not average players!

There's two types of versatility

A player who can be damaging in a number of different roles

Versus

A player who is easily covered and won't be missed if moved from their role

I like the idea that we value a player that is equally as average in a number of roles. That's our strength, we persist in the average. Trigg, Noble, Smart, we live to embrace the truely average.

Maybe tricks is over the top ......but early days Dougie couldn't hold his feet .....he's more a straight line runner, whereas Gallucci has better agility and weaves & runs laterally better than Dougie

Dougie had pace early ......but his use of pace has never been a strong feature of his game ....whereas IMO Gallucci uses his pace to better advantage

Rarely, hence why I said he is stuck in his single role
He was originally projected to eventually go into the midfield ......good BP's are important, think his career now will probably stay as a defender

Nigel Smart was anything but "average" as a footballer, actually he was pure "gunnage" to quote you...;)

I can't recall ever, which is why I didn't understand your original post about him playing as a tagger.

I have seen him follow his forward into the middle of the ground, but I can't recall him starting in the centre square or running off a wing.

Held his own against the likes of Ablett Senior & Kouta in his prime & hold down CHF.

Could play anywhere except the ruck.

Was a pure gun for sure.

Absolutely, as a player Nigel was pure gunnage. Was actually faster than he looked as well. My view on him as an employee is not related to his ability on the ground. This is something that you need to reconcile.

Thanks for that .....disappointing given IIRC he was from a single parent family, doing it tough ......you'd have thought the motivation would have been there, and he was apparently grateful of not going interstate & leaving his Mum ?

It still amazes me that these guys are given an opportunity & then thumb their nose at that opportunity, to set themselves up for life ? ......can't tell me that he didn't get ample warnings & even a fool would know what the outcome of ignoring the warnings will be !

Let me understand this .......would i prefer a job playing sport earning 350K per year......or a job earning $60K that maybe i don't enjoy .....let me think about that  ....:drunk::drunk:

It remains an oddity to me. You'd think that every person who puts up their hand to be drafted would be 100% committed to the workload required. And yet, we leak players who don't seem completely engaged with club requirements.

What do they expect then .....a summer camp?

Surely they don't live in a vacuum of expectations ......their junior clubs would have educated them ......lets face it, some are just dumb

Yep. If it was me, I'd be expecting the workload to increase. And yet, many seem to nit handle that. Rat is a perfect example of the opposite. Bit of a young lad, didn't apply himself to the level required, slipped miles in the draft compared to his talent, but is one of the leaders of our time trials.

"sometimes" it depends on the club you get drafted to ......sometimes nothing helps

This year there's been two AFL players IIRC, that have simply stood up, said time & walked away from an existing Contract ???

The Crows leak players not engaged?

We haven't had that many of late - Wigg & Grigg.

Not too bad, particularly compared to most other clubs.
