Drop Rooke again?

Its a matter of team structure. Rooke had the chance on Saturday night to play a loose role all game, against Carlton that was OK.... they are crap.

When we are not dominating the play I have doubts about Rooke and his usefulness to the side. Hunt was one of our only 2 or 3 good players against Collingwood... to me that rates much higher than a guy that can run around un-manned while our side dominates(Carlton game).

Hunt plays key defender roles too, Rooke doesn't... dunno. Rooke was good on Sat night put who wasn't? All these morons saying Byrnes / Lonegan etc are back... had great games etc.. SO WHAT?? The opposition was crap! Crap opposition make teams look good. If our key players decide to have a lazy day, the passengers play terrible also.. ie Collingwood game.

If Gamble played he would have been amongst the goals against Carlton. Thanks for whoever corrected me about his absence being injury related... hope he's back sooner than later.

plz leave marty. thx.

I'll leave when you post something thats even remotely worthwhile to read on here. Just because I don't appeal to the fanboy sheep on here doesn't give you the right to post off topic garbage. Go crawl back up your boyfriend's ass now.

Agreed the opposition was crap, but you can only perform against who you're up against that particular week. Agreed hunt has been good, but rooke would be stiff to be dropped after saturday nites efforts(rooke also adds a strong physical presence). This problem weve got is not a bad one to have! Vegas looks to be the goods but he might struggle to get in if chapy and moons are back.Hawkins needs a rest, so if moons dont come up MAYBE vegas could take hawkins role...This may leave our forward line exposed height wise but if Stevie J plays like he did last week it wont matter;) A little experimenting with our forward set-ups cant be a harm in the long run...

Marty 2 questions, just a yes or no will do.

Do you think against Collingwood we lacked a tough tackling type player?
Do you think against Carlton we played a good game because we went back to our ruthless hunting/tackling/pressuring game style?

Max Rooke is hard at the ball, he adds that mongrel to out team, to me he's the type of player that we need when the chips are down.

Also I don't understand how you can say Hunt can play KP and Rooke can't, Rooke actually has played KP in the past whereas I can't remember when Hunt has played on someone who isn't a midget.

I agree that he adds mongrel to the team, for sure. Although when all our midfielders are tackling well (all big bodied midfielders), this is not an issue anyway. + Rooke doesn't possess the awareness, talent, running capacity and slick disposal of the other midfielders.

Well how would we know? Rooke has tagged players such as Goodes in the past but very rarely takes key roles in defense. Hunt takes the smaller forwards because he is very fast, Rooke isn't. Without Hunt in defense we are too tall and slow down back. Why would Hunt take tall forwards? They aren't necessarily the better players either.

NO! Our entire team were flat and were not mentally prepared for the game. Rooke could have had 20 tackles that night, wouldn't have made a lick of difference. Everyone was down and not doing the 1%s all night, including tackling. Size / strength is one of our big advantages in the midfield already, we don't need Rooke to boost that aspect of the team... he does complement it.

Do you think against Carlton we played a good game because we went back to our ruthless hunting/tackling/pressuring game style?

Of course... what has this got to do with Rooke? The entire team turned up to play and all tackled well. This is a TEAM game and the reason why we were such a hard tackling team without Rooke last year is because were are a physical team.... Rooke is one of the least effective players in the side at the moment, fact. Check the stats over the last year.

I'm not denying his usefulness as a tough hard player, its just not as important in todays game as other abilities, which he struggles with compared to the others. Pre-2007 when the game was all about stoppages... fine, hard and tough ruled... Times have changed. Quality disposal, awareness and speed is paramount and the main reason we won the flag in '07.
