Just finished watching the Tri-Nations on Nine and it confirms that:

Game 6: 7:30pm (QLD), 8:30pm (NSW/VIC)
Final: 6:30pm (QLD), 7:30pm (NSW/VIC)

Looks like coverage in Melbourne improved from:

11:30pm (first game and both NZ/GB matches), 9:30pm (2nd and 4th games), and now live for the last two games.

About time ch9, all we need now is live coverage Australia wide by atleast 2035.
They should show the game all around Australia starting from next year, i mean we get over 3 million people watching our GF in 3 states,i wonder what it would be like if it was shown all around AUSTRALIA,6 million anyone ?

Err-you forgot the regionals. The audience was probably was over 4 million in three states for last year's NRL GF. Here is an extract from a letter comparing the AFL & NRL GF's TV audience last year:

... Here is the audience breakdown according to OzTAM statistics as published in The Australian newspaper:

AFL Grand Final: Sydney v West Coast
CAPITAL CITIES

Sydney: 765,000

Melbourne: 1,184,000

Brisbane: 330,000

Adelaide: 326,000

Perth: 550,000

CAPITAL CITIES TOTAL: 3,155,000

REGIONAL AREAS (combined aggregated, excluding Tasmania)

Queensland: 176,696

Northern NSW: 201,667

Southern NSW: 206,025

Victoria: 276,333

REGIONAL TOTAL: 860,720

NRL Grand Final: Melbourne v Brisbane

CAPITAL CITIES

Sydney: 817,000

Melbourne: 871,000

Brisbane: 806,000

Adelaide: 39,000

Perth: 18,000

CAPITAL CITIES TOTAL: 2,552,000

REGIONAL AREAS

Queensland: 441,410

Northern NSW: 418,068

Southern NSW: 340,923

Victoria: 175,079

REGIONAL TOTAL: 1,375,481

AFL came out on top in overall total (4.01 million to 3.92 million) and in the major cities total, but finished second to NRL in Sydney, Brisbane and regional areas total, especially in Queensland and NSW where rugby league is much more popular than AFL (the extraordinary audience for Queensland was due to the presence of Brisbane Broncos). For the week from September 24 to 30, AFL Grand Final actually came second in rural Australia behind the Terri Irwin interview with Ray Martin from Channel Nine.

One surprising result was the audience for NRL Grand Final in regional Victoria, simply because the Melbourne Storm was playing. Although it was just more than 100,000 less than that for AFL Grand Final, it made the NRL Grand Final the most watched program in the state for the week ending October 7.

I hope it provides a satisfactory answer.

Regards,
Tasmania , I think got an audience of over 150,000 for the AFL GF. However, if the NRL GF was live into Adelaide & Perth it would have made things interesting.

BTW if their is no Sydney in the AFL GF next year say goodbye to the AFL GF's dominance in the last couple of years.

what if there was no Melbourne in the NRL GF next year and all regionals were counted and no double counting in NSW and Qld. hmmm very interesting indeed

What if there was no perception by idiot AFL fans that "double counting" adds a million to NRL ratings? Where's the proof that it adds a significant amount?

If you'd even bother to substantiate a point, the 2005 final without a Melbourne team outrated the 2006 Grand Final anyway (at least in metro areas).

Why do we care what time RL is telecast on FTA in Adelaide/Perth and regional Western/South Australia??? I dont care one iota. Fox Sports coverage of the football is "truly national" and footy fans living on those regions will always have that option. FTA coverage in those regions would only be important to groom the market for an NRL team of their own. Unfortunately we've been there done that and probably won't be doing it again.
