Head says Port get up, heart obviously wants the Crows to win.

Sloane retirement, Curtin debut, Crouch 150, injuries to Port and all signs pointing to us getting a win. But it's hard to ignore our form line before last week, and Port have looked pretty good for the most part this year.

I'm tipping Port by 13 after a close game all night.

Pop quiz... without looking it up, who is the Crows' current most consecutive games leader?
Everyone else has already answered, but Keays. Think it was mentioned during the game last week he debuted for us early in 2020 (possibly Round 2) and hasn't missed since then?

Season alive if we win this one (and the next 2).

Big win against North. No Murphy. Top 10 draft pick debuting.

25 point win. FOG/Himmelberg to combine for 7+ goals.
Mitch Hinge to win the Showdown medal.
Nank - 20 touches a goal and 2 goal assists.
Rankine to dominate the middle.

Yep

Well done to everyone who answered Ben Keays

90 consecutive games and counting

Dawson next with 75

Can't believe how confident everyone is - it's a showdown, all rules about form and ladder position and injury lists go out the window. It's 50:50. Very nervous as always.

It's a myth that this is the case. Typically, the better team throughout a season tends to perform better in the Showdown. However, it's like the regular season where it can also be match up dependent where one team plays a style that can over-perform against the other. Or teams can shoot themselves in the foot by losing their head midweek and upping the importance of this kind of game.

Our form over the last 4 games has us top 6 in all the key categories we were good at last year (scoring efficiency, scoring from turnover, scoring from D50 etc). Yes we couldn’t beat Melbourne or Essendon, but both were close contests majority of the night and should have probably snagged one of them for… reasons.

Port have done well to scrape over the line in games they weren’t the better team, but I don’t think their form is too much better than ours. A good forward line can get ahold of them with the amount of I50s against them recently, hopefully that is us tonight!

Have to admit, Dan Curtin is getting a surprisingly good deal in this debut game. He'll not take either KPF (Marshall and Dixon) with Butts and Keane in the side. Worrell will likely take Georgiades or the resting ruck.

He's most likely gonna be left to be a 197cm roaming intercept defender who has to man a 5th or 6th forward from time to time. As far as debut games go, that's about as responsibility free as it gets at AFL level.

Might even be worth a cheeky 10er for a Debut Showdown medal. Wouldn't be the 1st intercept defender to win it.

Lets hope Port kick it to him all day like we did with Aliir

Is Keays improving or is the BC running out of steam? I can’t recall anyone demanding that Keays be dropped this season.

Possibly the Murphy McHenry Effect, we have too many other players who should be playing in the Twos.

Will Hinkley or Carr be coaching this one? Or is that only determined after the game?
Carr is fully coaching the side.
Watch Hinkley closely. He's like an old uncle who sits on the bench having a chat and is oblivious to what's actually happening in the game. He doesn't communicate with the coaches at all. Never seen a 'coach' more happily ignorant in my life.

I do think that's a survivorship bias thing, seeing the genuinely memorable milestone games are the ones that are stuffed up. I.e. we're 1-2 in milestone games this year with us winning in Hinge's 50th (against North) and losing Smiths 250th (Fremantle) and Murphy's 100th (Geelong).

That said, combined with Sloane retirement, it's got serious potential that we've made this game more than it is. After all, Sloane retirement isn't going to mean the players are up to it here - they already were, seeing it's a showdown and the biggest game they'll play for the next few months. It's just going to add to the mental fatigue by making a big week bigger. Typically, the team who has done well in games like the Showdown have been the one that's managed to keep their cool, treat it like another week and not let it get too big on them. Port fell for that trap recently with their "We hate them and would love to beat them" quotes. We've fallen into it in the past with our SA state jumper stunt being a great example.
Seems like Port have finally learnt their lessons. Gone very quiet this week.

When they lose its because of Kennys structures though of course.

Not that Adelaide are favourites or showing consistently good form but it seems they’ve provided a glimmer of hope with some good player performances and timely Porked Power injuries it’s the type of game Adelaide will cough up and dash hopes and dreams.
