Do you have no middle ground between making things up and hysterics?
Yes, here it is.

On the plus side, the majority of our forward entries actually looked half competent for the first time in 2 years.

Pity our midfield set up somehow got worse. That was one of the most one sided midfield displays I've seen.

Gibbs is well cooked. Well well cooked. I can't see he could possibly be considered again.

McAsey doesn't look ready imo. Happy to keep playing him though as we're obviously not contending this year.

Jones lacks confidence and strength at this stage. I really like his pace though and he can show class at times. Need to persist and let him know he belongs. There's a player in there.

Stengle is smart and needs to get around the ball more. Would be great in a good team. Lots of talent.

Thought Davis has really stepped it up this year. His tackling is really impressive. Can see a place for him now. Offers something different and will only get better with experience.

Fog can almost do no wrong. Just need it in his hands more often ala Stengle.

Thought Obrien was actually good. He's not an amazing tap Ruckman (yet) but very few are. Around the ground he was good in the air and linked up well. Nice hit up into f50. He's come from a very very long way back let's remember and is still very inexperienced. I think he'll be a bit of a scapegoat for our atrocious midfield set ups.

I keep waiting for Talia to fall off a cliff every year but he just keeps dishing up the same quality.

Brown had a bit of a stinker. Laird was good and bad as was Kelly. Not sure how we didn't get spanked really.

Overall not a great start but we had our moments.

Bruce may have played reasonably well but Bryce was absolutely shithouse!

You’d have to either know nothing about football or have a preconceived belief that the 22 needs that player to describe their game any better than horrific. If the player has a handful of games under the belt you could say there were a couple of good signs. A 250+ game veteran deserves no such qualification. Nicks is looking suspect already.

Suspect yes. Still unknown? Also yes.

I'm hopeful he's not blind but just not wanting to publicly burn a player.

If it continues, then yeah. But hopefully presser responses differ from his selection standards.

Its about building relationships!

But while you can do that to your team- you must also do it for your fans.

I understand the idea of not wanting to '' publicly burn '' a player - that is more about the stage of development of a player ie do you castigate a 2nd year player who gets 7 possessions? Never

Do you publicly castigate a senior player of 250+ games? I think you can do it much better than coddling him

The best response would have been ' yeah I thought Gibbsy could have been better and we will chat about that in house''

this is how easy it is, I’m drunk and can get it right.

“at the ground, we thought he was good, really happy with his defensive aspect. Unless you’re at the ground, you can’t see his value off the ball. There’s lots of opinions out there on Bryce, but inside the 4 walls, he’s much more valuable than his defensive efforts or offensive stats”.

Seriously, how did we end up with a coach that lauded his game. Posters are well within their right to question a <10 gamer in Jones playing ahead of the ball. And yet our new coach chooses to manufacture a Gibbs good performance. Where the hell does that come from.

From the club perspective sounds like he's safe as long as there's a crowd lockout. Strange that we may need the return of a crowd to put Bryce under the microscope ..... when they groan at some of his insipid efforts.

'can show' and 'showed' have two differnet meanings in this context. You know that though.

So is your position: 'showed nothing in this game, but should be backed anyway?'

I probably agree, but I also think we should be concerned by how little he's presently showing.

This is exactly what I meant yes. I mean two of his kicks were effective, but he struggled to find it, panicked with the other few and imo got outbodied too often.

My point was that in past games I've seen glimpses and he seems like the kind of player that needs to come out of his shell and be backed in. I'd like to see us back him in.

Fair play then
