I hope so.

I dont actually see whey they couldnt. I could understand the AFL not wanting them to do it yesterday as it takes attention away from Rich Carl but today is all about Adelaide so why not?

This whole idea of distraction is a complete myth. No players get distracted before a game by contract talks.

Completely different scenario though, surely you can see the difference? You've said it IS happening and it isn't.
Um no. I said my horse would win and it didnt. I said the crows would win and they didnt.

If you think anyone outside of Rory, his manager and the biggest dicks at the Crows know 100% you are beyond help.

It is exactly the same scenario.

The info I got lined up with media reports coming out except my info included some extra insight that makes sense.

Thats why i posted it.

Tom ******* Rehn was announcing done deal.

It seemed more than a big coincedence at the time.

Hmm no. If you weren't 100% sure you shouldn't be posting shit like

Anyway, I hope your mail is correct.

The deal is already signed.
That isn't "backing a horse" and saying it will win.

But Sloane shit-canned that info, yet you are still going on about it!

Following an insightful earlier comment from the Colonel, I think we should refocus this thread on what would be regarded as a "win" or "loss" from the Sloane situation.

I tend to think, as implied by the Colonel, if we match a salary of ~$1.3m for 5 years, while we might have a warm feeling inside, and think we have won, that when we wake up in the morning we might feel had.

In other words, what are your opinions on what we would be happy to pay to keep Sloaney here, and what would be too much? The gut reaction is that we should do everything possible to keep him, but IMO he has reached his peak, and is probably over it. What are your non-emotional and businesslike opinions on this deal?

I guess the question I've got if we match is: Are we matching to make him stay? Or matching to force a trade? If we match and can then force a trade for a 1st round pick, say something in the top 10, then that's probably going to be better than whatever compensation pick we'd get. If we match and he stays and we're lumped with $1.3m a year for a guy who will be in his 30s for most of that contract, that's not such a good outcome. But if he's going for personal reasons rather than financial and taking a contract that we'd actually be willing to pay anyway (like the Dangerfield situation), then I don't see any reason not to match because it's a good outcome either way - we keep him or we get a better return than we'd get from the FA compensation.

$850 - $900K would be my best offer for a very good player but one that can have his influence on a game seriously challenged by a half decent tagger. I saw no signs that he can adapt his game when a switched on tagger sits on him and the rest of the competition has seen this multiple times now. Sloane is no Million $ man IMO.

The funny thing, he’s now claiming Tom Rehn said it was a done deal. He didn’t, he said it wasn’t signed but something would have to go wrong for it not to happen.

Whilst our friend said it was a done deal and all signed.
