Judd is basically calling Sloane a liar. Rory didnt seem like he was "towing the company line" with those comments he made back in March.

Juddy would want to be careful making such claims

Yeah, a big fan of Judd on this but he has gone too far saying that

Cassisi doesn’t have to toe the party line.

Sloane as VC does, hence the doubt.

I have no idea why anyone would trust what a player says. None of them are ever going to come out and bag their club, nor will they say they are leaving when they are.
Nah but I don't reckon Sloane would put that level of spin on it if he didn't actually get alot out of it.

Much in the same way he sheepishly deflects the contract talk, because he's going and doesn't want to be a lying shit campaigner.

You really believe no one talks to them?

Really?
No one said anyone spoke to walsh’s Widow... and why would the club go “this camp got a little out of hand... we better ring up walshy’s widow and talk to her about it”?. I don’t know why the club would bother informing/filling in her of what happened on the camp..

So I’d say everything she knows is what the media is reporting like everyone else outside the club.

she simply commented on a comment about the camp that was written on dom’s Facebook page.. It’s getting pretty hysterical now if the media are reduced to quoting gossip and opinions from Facebook..

In your mind you do believe we have been successful over the last 20 years don't you? It would appears Jens a fan - hmmmm.
I said reasonably successful. And considering we made a GF during a period of losing players suggests that it hasn’t been the disaster that you think it is.

I agree with the first part. What Cassisi said wasn't trolling. He wouldn't troll us by bringing up Walsh.

There is also a party line that would need to be towed by Sloane, I agree. But I don't think we shouldn't take what Sloane said here on face value. He was pretty emphatic with what he said. He could have towed the party line in any number of ways. I have no reason to think he wasn't being genuine at the time. That being said, I've been to seminars where I was pretty inspired at the time, and then after a few weeks you think, well that probably wasn't as inspiring as I thought at the time.

Yeah, I'm sure they were invited to team selection as well.
sometimes you just say shit to take an opposing view point.
That’s some conceit you’ve got going on there

I’ll give you a hint, players from both teams socialise with each other. They don’t hate each other, it’s a small town. And if you think some players aren’t still in touch with the Walsh family... well you’d have to be delusional to believe that

In the last 20 years, we're essentially the same as St Kilda, without the "bottoming out" bit, which is largely irrelevant anyway because many sides strategically bottom out and it results in flags. Do you reckon people go "Yeah, Collingwood won a flag in 2010, but they bottomed out to get it so it's not as good"?

Yep. St Kilda.
Its ridiculous to compare us to St Kilda - a lightweight club that has been terrible for most of the last 40 years. We've had four premiership runs in the last 25 years and have been a quality side for maybe 20 of those years.

Teams who bottom out will mostly do it forever. It's a ridiculous myth that you can just be terrible for a few years and it doesn't damage the players you have. You see "rebuilding sides" in every sport in the world, and mostly they just keep doing more rebuilds.

Melbourne has been horrendous for a generation. Carlton the same.

And I think people mostly think of Collingwood as a massive disappointment for the last ten years. I actually think their premiership has been mostly forgotten, as will be the Western Bulldogs.

So any club could claim to be as successful as us. This shows it helps more than hurts. Hawks flags were built on bottoming out. West Coast's last one as well IIRC.
That is a myth about the Hawks. Frankly, their flags were built on one piece of extraordinary luck. They received a priority pick in a year where it held fantastic value, and a year where Richmond made a terrible decision.

Teams that bottom out now would never get gifted such a valuable selection.

Agree that the PP was a gift, but they wouldnt have got the gift if they hadn't bottomed out. But really, they also drafted and traded exceptionally well. Mitchell for example. And their use of free agents. I dont think you can say we are successful and the clubs that did bottom out are not. I think over 25 years we are about average. Not bottoming out hasn't helped us. But the path we have taken hasn't helped either. I do think its much harder for us to bottom out than other clubs though. We maximize our home ground advantage. Even when we were shit, we still managed to win a lot of games at footy park.

The only real difference between us and St Kilda is that we've been able to take our opportunities when presented to us in Grand Finals.

Since 1991

Premierships
Adelaide 2
St Kilda 0

Grand Finals
Adelaide 3 (2-1)
St Kilda 3 (0-3)

Losing prelims
Adelaide 2
St Kilda 3

We can come up with whatever sanctimonious stuff we want to, but the reality is that St Kilda have made the same amount of Grand Finals and have reached the Prelim Final more than we have.

Now list how many seasons St Kilda have been easybeats as opposed to AFC. There is a large gulf between the clubs. I say again, bottoming out is a loser mentality. I am exceptionally happy that we have never taken this route.

But what has this actually given us?

Since 1998 there has been no tangible benefit for us not "bottoming out". In fact if you compare things between 99 to 2018 it would suggest that St Kilda has been more successful when it comes to prelims and making grand finals than we have.

when we did we gave up 2 1st round picks for a 32 yo player that lasted 28 games.

If we purposefully bottom out, I believe it will negatively affect the clubs collective mentality and the repercussions will be felt for decades.

I’d rather be consistently good than perennially battling for the wooden spoon.

Yeah it certainly ruined Hawthorn, West Coast and Collingwood o_O

I'd rather be the Western Bulldogs in the last 15 years than us.
