Jon snow was made king of the north with Ned dead.
Because of his strong ties with the starks and the fact that everyone knew him as a Stark bastard.

the north are loyal to the starks, totally different scenario with Gendry who has zero support other than the starks who will need to be in power to make that arrangement.

There’s no other houses backing him, nor do the people know him other than a blacksmith that would bring nothing to the realm...no land and no political ties other than the Stark house

Episode 2 is possibly the perfect episode to have before the epic climactic battle.

You have to realise that all these scenes of the characters that we've followed for years, talking and bantering together, consoling each other, are because most of them are at the end of their character arcs. These are their final moments together stretched out on our screen for us to enjoy, one last time, before they go to battle, one last time, and die (maybe).

I'm perfectly fine with this episode and no battle/action in it, because we needed these final moments with the characters we've grown to love to not be really interrupted by anything, as I'm sure there will be plenty of heartache for us fans during the battle next week.
Also will create extra impact when one becomes a wight.

My guesses: (only applicable for the battle..after that, all bets are off).

Jon – Alive, but there will be doubt (fell from dragon and yet to be found at the end?)
Sansa – Dead. Undead break through to crypt, she dies leading the defense.
Arya – Alive
Bran – Dead. He and the night king are linked, and harry potteresc linkage, he must die in order to completely kill the night king.
Theon – Alive...Say what you like about him, but he's a survivor.
Edd – Probably dead. I'd like him to live, but let's face it, he's very disposable.
Sam – Lives. George RR Martin says Sam is him...He'll survive the series.
Gilly – Dead Crypt defence.
Little Sam – Alive.
Tormund – Alive...provides colour/contrast and will be interesting when they go south.
Brienne – Alive
The Hound – Alive.
Beric – Dead.
Dany – Alive; Has to face up to Cersei.
Jorah – Dies...heroically of course, probably saving Lady Mormont.
Lady Mormont – Alive;
Greyworm – Alive;
Missandei – Dead; In the crypt, protecting the very kids who shunned her.
Varys – Alive...but not for long...See bonus...Somehow, they will be his death but not this ep.
Tyrion – Alive.
Davos – Dead. For a guy who can't fight, he's pushed his luck far enough already. I'd like him to live though.
Poderick – Alive.
Gendry – Alive;
Night King – Dead; they'll push it to the limit, but he pretty must has to die.
Jamie - Dead...I think he should face Cersei again, and I'd love to see him catch up with Bron, but he'll sacrifice himself in an act of redemption saving someone. Bran commented that he needs to be there and do something.

Bonus...

Melisandre/Red woman...Dead. She left to gather her forces to help in this fight....Expect a force of flame sword wielding lord of light fanatics to turn up at an opportune time during the battle. But having done that, she's done her job and (finally) dies.

So lineage is irrelevant. Its connections and power. Dany still trumps Jon.
This is where I think Greyworm saying he has no loyalty to Westeros in the most recent episode will come in. Her army is made up of people with vastly conflicting ideals and goals, once it starts to splinter her power dissipates. Jon's power base is built on the solid rock of the far more culturally homogenous North.

The King in the North is also a power structure that has precedent that everyone in the North understands. Do the Unsullied know where they stand with the Dothraki, and the Dothraki with the Westerosians and vice versa under Dany's rule? Dany is running on charisma (plot armour if you're not feeling generous) and the goal of conquest keeping everyone too busy to look at the details, once reality sinks in I think she's not in nearly as strong a position.

If this happens it will be Uncle Benjen all over again.

Yeah. Which is why gaining the support of the North and specifically Sansa is so important. If she gets Sansa, then the Vale, Riverlands and North will all accept her and she wouldn't need the Unsuilled and Dothraki anymore.

It’s a mute point if the North will get wiped out

Which is what I’m predicting

Also why she needs Tyrion, as her diplomatic strategy so far is to make demands and then use overwhelming force to wipe out any opposition, resulting in a power vacuum.

No he didn't. He was just the crown Prince. His dad King was the nut job killing people.
No. Rhaegar was everything wanted in a King. Sane, treated the people well, well read, diplomatic, a great warrior (but only reluctantly). And willing to try and mitigate the worst actions of his father, if not outright replace him (who was still King and mad, so always the risk he could have ordered him killed if he didn't do it carefully). His flaw was not breaking off his marriage (or if wanting to be more like book / historical Targ's then polgamy with the new wife as well as the old) and fetching Lyanna AFTER getting the Mad King out the way.
Had Rhaegar not been secretive of his marriage with Lyana Stark Roberts rebellion would have never happened.

Jon – Alive. Leading the flight to KL
Sansa – Alive. See Brienne.
Arya – Alive, the crypt scenes from the trailer in this ep.
Bran – Dead. Expecting some warg shit though.
Theon – Dead.
Edd – Very dead.
Sam – Lives.
Gilly – Dead in the crypt.
Little Sam – Dead.
Tormund – Dies going toe to toe with an undead giant.
Brienne – Dead. Dies either saving Jamie or creating an evac route for the crypt.
The Hound – Alive. Cleganebowl lives.
Beric – Dead.
Dany – Alive; but Drogon DEAD. NK kills him but they stop a resurrection somehow.
Jorah – Dead, dies defending Dany when Drogon killed.
Lady Mormont – Alive
Greyworm – Alive
Missandei – Dead in the crypt.
Varys – Alive, got one last play against Qyburn.
Tyrion – Alive.
Davos – Dead. Dies after launching the defence to the undead dragon.
Poderick – Alive.
Gendry – Alive
Night King – Alive but with issues linked to Bran dead.
Jamie - Alive. Think we are going to see him and Bronn reunite.

Melisandre to return ep4.
Bonus, Dany tries to mount Rhaegal at the end and he refuses, only allowing Jon.

The Baratheons are extinct and nobody is going to back the horse which is some guy with no diplomatic connections whose only asset is that he's a decent blacksmith over a woman with dragons, the ruler of the entire north of the continent, and the sitting Queen.
I think some people have missed the scene where Varys talks about power to Tyrion and spells out to the audience that power is a trick, it’s where people believe it is. No one’s going to believe it’s in Gendry.

Melisandre to return ep4.
Why bother?

Her whole purpose has been about finding the hero and fighting the night king...she found the hero (Jon) and went off to collect her forces for the fight.

Missing THE battle would make her entire story pretty pointless. (realistically, it could happen, but plot wise...)

The only way she wont be in ep3 is if the battle extends into ep4 too (leave it on a cliffhanger with all looking gloomy...Quite possible).

I will be completely shocked if the Crypt is not full of undead, slaughtering the living who are sheltering there.

The writers have all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, since they no longer have GRR Martin's material to draw from. They couldn't have been less subtle about it, given the number of times we were told that the women & children were going to be sheltering in the crypt, and that the crypt was safe. Then there's the spoilers in the trailers, with Arya running through the crypt and Jon saying that the dead were "already here".

The chances of the crypt becoming a slaughterhouse are 100%.
Only 100%? I’d put it much higher.

There have been a number of comments on other sites to the effect that those 'buried' in the crypt will rise to defend Winterfell. Apparently there are a bunch of hints about 'old magic' and history, etc. related to the Night king's history that suggest this might happen.

I can't say any of it seemed completely convincing, but it's not outside the realms of possibility either.
