No. They spent the entire episode yelling at us through a loudspeaker, telling us that it was going to happen.

Wight (as distinct from White Walker, which a lot of people seem to confuse). Unlikely, as Jon won't be in the crypt. It will probably be Arya fighting the undead Starks in the crypt, given what we've seen in the trailers.
So if it doesn't happen, would that be a twist? :)

Actually inclined to disagree. The books have become incredibly bloated, and in a lot of places you can tell GRRM just doesn't care anymore. When he wrote the History of Westeros book or whatever it's called, he gave a Lord and his son the names Kermit and Elmo because he could for shits and giggles.
I don't think he actually writes the supplementary books they're pumping out, he just gives notes and ideas to the person putting it together.

Think he gave an interview discussing writing it and how they wanted him to give detail about all these places he didn't care about, and all these parts of history he didn't care about.

It still proves the point that he's not as invested/interested as book readers are inclined to think he is.

Anyone's interest would naturally wane in his spot. Spent 20 years laying the ground work for a series only for the more popular adaptation to spoil the broad strokes for the widest audience possible. But I don't think naming characters after muppets is any indication of that, that's just having fun with it.

How about the Mereen plot going for virtually half a book and spiralling out of control? I have no idea how he's going to condense his books back down to the conclusion, and I'm not sure he does either.

Lol it’s all the big bad tv show fault that the fat campaigner can’t finish the books

Ffs he had plenty of time to do so

I don't think he's invested in the setting beyond Westeros, but I actually think he's too interested in the characters and plotting, so much so that he's never going to reign the series in.

I think he’s too insecure as a writter

I remeber a YouTube clip of him and Stephen king on stage talking about their writing method.

king would say that he just belts it out and then goes back over each section and re writes or flesh out the section he doesn’t like or does like.

GRRM would state that he agonises over each pages and feels like a fraud and worries if what he has wrote makes sense.

So you can see there’s some really emotional angst behind his writing which I believe causes some major writing block or inability to close of plot paths

I honestly think he will never finish it

An interesting take, but his career seems to be the inverse of what I'd expect based on that. He was relatively prolific in the late 70's and 80's when he was an unknown before going into TV writing. It wasn't until he got accolades and recognition that he became the glacier he is now.

Like I said there some real mental angst behind his writing and like you said I also believe he too invested in all the complicated plot/character arch’s that he’s unable to close off

Maybe the shows popularity is creating issues for his confidence in how to finish the story

Huh? The wall was infused with magic. You serious?
And no one knew what magic was needed to break it down. Apparently it only took magic the white walkers already possessed combined with lots of fire.

Many people at that point already thought the WW could go over the wall because Bran touched it. No one had no idea what was the deal with WW and the wall at that point. So it was no big wow moment that the dragon zombie was definately the key to the wall.

I think the problem is that, as he's said, he outlines the story, but lets the details develop as he goes and that's a big part of the interest for him...seeing where it's going.

Now that the story has got ahead of his writing, that level of interest in discovery has been lost for him and writing it is just a chore.

I really hope they don't raise the Stark dead. They don't need to create more enemy then there already is.

IMO it would be a poor storyline. I wouldn't have minded if we had seen the NK do it somewhere else before. Not like Hardholme as they were fresh, I mean raised the long dead before.

Don't agree with all of it, but like this random youtube comments alternate take on Season 7. Take out the deaths and it gets everything done in a much more satisfying way to set up S8. Integrates Bran and his abilities into the rest of the show more seamlessly, removes the weird time warping, allows for a meaningful reunion between Jon and Benjen.:

Hit him up on twitter and offer to give him some tips on how to finish it off and lose some pork.
