Been thinking about this for a while and have a theory about the dead Starks in the Crypt. Back a few seasons when Sam picked up dragon glass weapons he picked up a horn. We commented at the time WTF is that as it didn’t seem to have a purpose. It was broken but he’s carried it around with him (presumably) since then.

When Tyron pulls up a chair and sits down with Bran to find out what he knows maybe Bran tells him how to repair the horn and a Stark blowing the horn can raise an army of dead Starks gathered from 8000 years of dying from the crypts to fight against the white walkers. There always has to be a Stark in Winterfell for this very purpose?

Tyron waits on the battlement for a signal or to see if the Wights find the secret way into the crytps or if the armies are getting defeated before giving the horn to Arya to blow.

Thoughts?

Surprise twist for the battle.

No major characters die.

Would ANYTHING surprise you more than that?
It depends on how much influence GRRM has over who dies in the show. If they can and will do their own thing, then there'll probably be no major character deaths this season, let alone next episode.

Pffft humans get tired and injuries and overwhelmed

Just keep throwing waves after waves after waves and eventually they break.

They even said so in the council that they are vastly outnumbered and need to bait the NK to end it.
Humans should easily get a quick win as they just need to launch an all out assault on the section where the NK is. If they fail, by say putting the dragons on the bench to start the battle, then it will become harder and harder as dead humans switch side.

I think you are underestimating the size of the dead army it is far from easy

I would go as far as saying you haven’t got a clue

It's an impossible task, if they're trying to kill every single wight individually. I don't care how many Valyrian Steel and Dragonglass weapons they have, the people using them will be dead long before they kill the last of the wights.

However, we know that killing a WW also eliminates all of the wights which are "linked" to him. Presumably, killing the NK will eliminate the whole army. This is why Seeds is correct about the need to attack the NK directly, not wasting resources trying to battle the other parts of the army.

Yes but it’s pitch black dark and will take time to locate the NK, hence why they are laying the trap for him.

They will still have to hold and defend their postition to avoid being overrun.

Far from as easy as Seeds is putting it, there’s no section to focus there forces on from a defensive postition.

they are already drawing away the NK from the main battle , which means they have to defend their position from waves after waves of attacks.

Assuming they can even identify where he is once the battle starts. Whole thing seems to take place at night after all.

Will be interesting to see if their plan to bait him towards Bran works.

edit: what Strange Cat said

It’s a moot point as there will be no concentrated attack, it will be a defensive fight they won’t be able to target any sections

Hence the need for the baiting to work to end the battle otherwise they are truly ****** they won’t be able to defend the castle from the sheer volume of the dead army

And did you not see last season where 6 humans killed hundreds if not thousands of the dead army?

I agree the longer the battle goes the easier it becomes for the white walkers and the army of the dead. They are most vulnerable at the start.

Bran could find him quite easily.

Dragons would also although that would come with risk

Ofrcourse they dont have to go straight for the NK. Killing other WWs would also probably reduce the army of the dead numbers pretty quick.

I saw an interesting theory where the Night King doesnt even appear in the battle, but has instead gone south to Kings Landing to take that first, THAT would be a twist.
I've heard that, but I can't see it happening.

The living army at Winterfell isn't going anywhere, so if he wanted to head down to KL, he'd just have his army wait for him to return before fighting the battle.

In pitch black darkness?

If it was so easy why are they laying a trap for the NK then?

So so easy
