Just wanted to complement AC on the game plan and sundays effort. Movement of the ball out of the backline was exceptional. All players seemed to know where they were running and giving to. The players played down back seem to gel really well together and provided exceptional run out of the backline and when the switch was made we didn't fiddle with the ball like last year and moved it quickly and hit targets. The best thing obviously was the third quarter where sammy and hodgie absolutely dominated the clearances and the ball was delivered into the forward line before numbers could be pushed back. Hodgie is unreal the way he directs traffic and his vision and delivery when he spotted up croad from the wing in the third quarter was pure class.

My 3 2 1 were

3 Hodge - was the catalyst of the 9 goal third term and is closer to chris judd than most people give him credit.
2 Mitchell - Worked hard over four quarters and none of his possesions were wasted fiddly kicks.
1 Williams - No explanation required.

Notable mentions - Jacobs, Dixon, Smith, Sewell and Crawford

Bit dissapointing - Roughead, Young - showed signs but need to make more of a presence.

Highlights- Crawford and Roughies grabs. Williams 8 and Farmers dirty day :p .

What I saw of it was Clarko's unique plan of a new style of flooding, one though which means the players need to be super fit with lots of running at top speed from defence to offence, players on the backine not necessarily taking up conventional positions but a grid including midfielders streaming into attack after nulling the oppostion in defence. Freo became baffled. As I said that style of play takes a lot out of the legs and was most likely the reason why our team slowed in the latter half of the last quarter.

Just think Cam Brown and Buddy will be coming back soon - exciting times ahead but a first round win doesn't mean a season. The important thing is that the Hawks have initiated a game plan which other teams will need to work out. Sydney did that last year and look at the result.

I would also add Dawson.

Your right about the game plan Gary. Dawson I thought was reasonable. He was a bit stiff on two occasions when mcpharlin kicked goals one was a blatent push in the back and another was being caught out of position. I like the way he plays, arrogant for a kid playing only a handfull of games :thumbsu:

Yes, Wombat, he was stiff. The youngsters, Roughie, Clint and Zac, three of whom I have tremendous regard. Bright futures indeed ... hope it inludes more than one premiership as team members over the next decade.

Feel Robbie Campbell should have rated an honourable mention. Easily his best game for the club and great start to the season and will now make other clubs think about their game plans against us with Spida possibly resting forward more than ruck.

Bit dissapointing - Roughead, Young - showed signs but need to make more of a presence.

bugsy "i like just having a game plan.

Even better, one that the players can follow."

Amen to that.

Oh by the way, not yet reported but....

Chris Tarrant did his finger in the last 2min. Had to come off. Wasnt dragged but had to come off holding his I think Left hand. He did it in a contested marking contest. He was holding his hand like a dislocation injury.

Rocca bye baby had to come on for the remaining minute or so, stayed near the wing at the changeover area.

(working at TD does have some advantages :)....if anyone is coming upto the Medallion club on level 2 Sunday, give us a hoy.)

What i like is the fact that for the 3 quarters we gave it our all, every player contributed. Last year i believe we had far to many "freeloaders" who believed they were giving it 100% by having a Lloyd/Richardson/Riewoldt cry to the umps.

The way Roughead is going at the moment is worrying me. Looks very much like a stronger Nathan Thompson. Let's hope he can develop into a better player. He needs to lift his game by taking marks more consistancy when getting to the ball. He seems to take the hard ones but often drops the easy ones. To me he looks like he has the same slow reactions as Thompson, I hope it is just me that thinks this as I hope he will be a gun. I will follow his season with interest hoping each game that I am wrong.

Na thats crap. Roughie has only played a few games give him a break. He was awesome down back last year and reads the play really well. He will grow into the role more and more as the year goes by. He was pretty good in the praccy games too. Remeber these players need time to devolop just like other players. Roughie will pull presti's pants down wait and see

We tend to forget how young our boys are because they are regulars in our weak side. We have to give them time, if our team was a top 4 team i think we would be all content on how the boys are developing, lets not rush the kids ok? we have plenty of time before we are considered a contender in september.

All i want to see from Roughie is fly for every mark, on sunday there were times he just stayed down and didnt try contest. But other then that he will be our FF and Dowler will be our CHF of the future *crosses fingers*
