Watching Hall and Mickey O running multiple leads and creating space for each other with the swans players hitting them up with short kicks was soooo good to watch!
Mickey O & Kirky in Swans coaching box one day...I can dream.:)

We are deficient in two positions but punch above our weight, but yeah we dont use it well, rely on our guts and heart a bit

We have these two gun forwards

Buddy goes fine, i think tippett suffers from our game plan
Agreed, not sold on Tippett yet but as you say is it because if the game plan. A few down back are the deficiencies . Having watched the game twice on replay cannot get over the ease S Mitchell got the pill and kicked to a lead. Hardness and guts get us through as you say, as do players running hard both ways, imagine if our structures matched Freo and Hawthorn, the mind boggles.

You know..it being 10 years ago now..it makes me feel old. :(

times past so fast.

I keep waiting for tippett to explode now he has had consistent footy, not sure the ruck fwd thing is working as we hoped,

I have seen over the last two weeks a desire to move it quicker and break the lines, dont have a stat but would imagine we are even attacking the corridor more the last few weeks

I think they are working on something

But two gun forwards needs to be used better

We dont mark it enough inside 50

Now your talking, it all starts with efficient clearance from the middle which we are lacking. We are getting better on the rebound/slingshot ala 2012. Tippetts pace after 15 metres is a concern and why he is no second ruckman. I will never forget buddy being interviewed when playing against the Swans in 2013 when they were down at half time at anz, what's the coaches instructions, lower the eyes and find the lead, they flogged us.

I think they are being used as decoys to open the fwd 50 up and allow our mids to kick goals. Its a mixture of 2012 and 2014.

If so...thats two exsy decoys we have..but if it means we play the way we have, then sure.

I just havent had that feeling with buddy in the past few weeks like i have for the last 18 months that he is going to do 5 mins of magic and win us the game.

Also playing so up the field as well. Sometinks changing, you are right.

I really feel that our f50 entries can be all down to our clearances. Usually they result from daisy chain handballing then a kick forward when marginally. We need to get it quicker to the outside to our elite kicks. Should give them more space and time to hit up leads.

Also when in defensive doubt go up the line instead of piddling around on hbf

buddy looks sore, needs a rest this week as long as we don't do power vs lions, this is week to do it

I'm sorry - we have a gameplan?

You missed the X's to represent 3 opposition players all around Buddy and a few unmarked swans players open just inside 50.

We dont plan for the defence

This thread is how I imagine it looks when the coaches put their ideas in a suggestion box then have a meeting to read them out.

Mods out of control again

In any event, here is our game plan as used in the Grand Final

Going to update this years changes ? :p
Summary:

Jetta is back on the field now, remove 1 of the small slow midfielders, man up on some of the unmarked outside runners, make the long bomb a bit more inaccurate, Longmire likely not coach of the year

Thought that it may be an idea to start a topic purely relating to game plan, strategy and tactics for this year as we are almost at the season proper.

One of the most debated (and angst worthy) topics from season 2014 was that of our game plan, largely a lack of plan b. Have a look at the autopsy thread.

So, lets have a look at our game plan circa 2014.

From my perspective our game plan was heavily based on a daisy chain handball plan to release to an outside runner. This plan seemed to be made in direct response to a zoning defence. The problem with this plan was fully exposed in the GF with immense pressure being put on the ball carrier in both the daisy chain and kicker, resulting in us getting thrashed on the rebound as out players were then out of position due to the 'slingshot'

What I would like to see in 2015 is 3 or 4 variations on this game plan to suit each situation. An example would be:

Ok, have been thinking of how we could be less prone to being burnt on the rebound by the daisy chain. What we really missed was effective target to kick to, for at least a contest so as to allow our runners to get through.

Above is how i'd set play. Have a 2 or three players at the 40m and 20m points in play (hopefully a tall, a roaming reid or buddy springs to mind) and 2-3 players 20-30m behind in case we get burnt (thinking a tight central defensive wall about 30-40m across). This allows for our runners to either run the wing or corridor to either be a link or help at the contest. Also nullifies the zonal system as they would be dragged to contest with the stationed targets up ahead, creating space for our runners.

This plan gives us a bit of flexibility

A) use the kick to 20m or 40m group, mark and reset
B) use runners to move the ball, using group 20-40m as overlap to open play
C) Kick to 20-40m group and use the runners to 'slingshot' from that point
D) Use the ball to daisy-chain to the 20m then 40m with the players behind the ball sweeping for the turnover

Positional:
So this is purely what you'd like to see in regards to what positions you like to employ across the ground. My one bug bear is the lack of a specialised small forward. I really would love to see a crumbing small forward with exceptional defensive pressure. Not a resting forward but a Walters type who can chase like a mad man.

Feel free to merge mods if you think it needs be.

PS. yes Bedford, I know I am not a coach but I think a chat over strategy is fun.
Gonna take me 20 mins or so to digest this Membling, this is what I was hoping for from this forum

Have to re-read it myself as roughly remember what I have stated but obviously due to shifting structure and dynamics of the teams probably changed again
