Seemed to get back to last year's break neck speed and run. And were able to sustain it for 4 quarters. Wonder if that was a one off or is that how we intend to play most weeks. Great to watch.

Also thought we held defensively as when the Hawks got a roll a couple of times. We stopped them and launched some nasty counter attacks from the last line.

Or if you like we didn't look all at sea and let in 7 + goals in a blink of an eye.

Was a good mix, I think. When the boys had the ball they were smooth and when they didn't, they made the Hawks players earn their possessions.

I hope we can bring it next week.

I think it's the most balanced the game plan has been all year, fit enough to keep it up for 4 quarters which is a huge plus.

Had hawthorn rattled in the 3rd. Resulting in them playing the man rather than the ball.

counter attack pain is becoming a big part of todays football, watching the Ess/Port game Ess killed em on the counter, mind you accuracy didnt help port either, after we missed a few early ones i was worried we may have paid dearly, however the balance was restored with a couple of posters from the hawks.

I'm guessing not many team over the past few years would have beaten the Hawks at Etihad whilst scoring less than 100 points?

I think that is the style we have tried to play but haven't been able to play.

A defensive edge to our attacking game plan.

Helps when we are on and the want to run.
Spot on IMO. What we saw on Friday is what I imagine Scott had envisioned at the start of the year. It took us until Round 16 to get it right, let's hope we can keep it up now

The game plan didn't change, we were just ferocious in our execution. That kind of intensity means we win the ball and also work harder than our opposition into space.
I thought our desire to move the ball on at all cost was a fair bit different to the slower moving game plan we've seen this season.

If your mids run harder defensively than offensively, your HB's can attack and set up the counter. Spud, Silver and Ats were good launching pads and Lachie was the safety net.

Too many times this year we have dominated periods of games but can't put the score on the board. On Friday we were able to do this.

There was a lot less 'bomb it 30 out from goal' on Friday. Helps when your mids are running hard and forwards are leading up the ground.

There were lots of near miss tackles we eluded to get the handball off...breathtaking to watch when it works like it did Friday night.

The rolling maul is working to our advantage in many instances...look at the number of times Swallow and Cunners do the hardwork to break it out during these mauls.

And when we move the ball that fast, the 50 is still open for forwards to have space and mids to run into to score. Just worked a treat, for the first time.

I also like Brown presenting at half forward...that was a real bonus.

Despite the bloke to me (my left) whinging about going backwards all night, I don't mind it.

Compare that to the Cats game where we kicked up the lines only to be repelled straight backwards was 'thinking'....(except for the McMahon kick in the 4thQ).

The best part was when they were getting on top and getting the game on there terms they only got minimal damage. But when we did our 10 min of attacking brilliance we piled on 7 unanswered goals. Once that damage was done the boys only had to play like they had all first half and it's a big solid win.

A bit of credit to the coach for neutralising hawks game plan and denying them their favoured kicking game, little things like holding up a player who has taken a mark, closely guarding the mark, making them go back to take the kick, instead of the quick play on, which gave us the time to man up ahead, also, close attention to their chief user off half back in Birchall and Suckling, and the same to their last real outside runner Smith.

We are the most devastating team when we get it right. We absolutely pile on goals in such a small amount of game time.

If only we got it right more often than not.

Let it start now.

There have been periods of domination this year that should have resulted in a downpour of goals but didn't due to inaccuracy. Good game for Black and Petrie to have a bit of a holiday from those demons. Hoping they've both turned a corner.
