Murphy was very good tonight, saved our butts plenty of times up forward.
And most of those were marking contests and tackle pressure
That’s what I mean. The only guy that actually gets his hands to the ball in a marking contest and flies into packs is him. Everyone else just wants to pretend to contest aerially incase they get hurt

The elephant in the room ...will the clueless AFC selection committee ever have the balls to drop Tex or Betts....?

Why?

I think I heard on the radio we only had something like 9 inside 50’s in the second half. We could have has 1993 Gary Ablett or Jason Dunstall and the result doesn’t change.

Maybe watch the midfield delivery to our forward line and observe how often we just chuck the ball on our boot coming out of the defensive 50 to see how difficult it would be for our forwards.

Tex is a very easy target for the knockers who just want to bitch about him.

I felt really bad yesterday morning for nominating port to win, but when you make such basic selection errors what do you expect. There was no way in hell that JJ was right to go, putting Dmac & Douglas in was just stupid.

The writing was on the wall for me in the 2nd qtr, when Mackay streamed forward just outside 50 - had 3 options, all of whom were clear of their opponents - including someone (can't recall who) on his right hand flank who was 30m in the clear, only to have him hit Westhoff on the chest. This was the epitome of how we were completely off all day. We could've almost had the game wrapped up at half time if we'd hit our targets up forward. That said, we are far too slow across the forward line and midfield in particular to actually hold the ball in. This opens it up for the quicker sides like Port who like to use their pace.

If Don doesn't bring youth in this week, then he should join Scott and BB on the coaches bench.

His ambition outweighed his talent

Same, saw a massive momentum shift in 2nd qtr, prediciting an obvious outcome for 2nd half. We've seen an ineffective and inefficient forward line all year. Ricciuto quoted years ago that a miss gives opposition momentum, that's how it unfolded. As usual, we kept missing and with each behind Port were building. Then, instead of a goal by Murphy going into half-time to put us in front, it's a diabolical mess, all after we gave up a 2 goal lead. Sides without recognised forwards have more efficient forward lines. Yes we are a midfielder short but the forward line, and inside 50 efficiency is the biggest problem. We convert at least a few of those gettable opportunities and it's a different game.
