That's what I don't get. There is a plethora of pubs in the city the club could organize something through to replace the GDV. People would go there, all they'd have to do is negotiate with a pub. Why they haven't done this I don't know.
You are missing the point. The beauty of the GDV is that it was virtually at the ground. It was easy to access a beer at halftime if you felt inclined. True, there are plenty of pubs in the city but those close enough are all doing a good trade pre and post match without the need to cut the PAFC in for a share of their takings. If we are going to emulate the old GDV it has to be within five minutes walk of the gate. We were buying a beer for $5-6 a can at the GDV and I doubt that any publican is going to sell beer at that price on a footy day.
Last year after the game I called into the bar at the Casino where I paid $10 for a pint. It was a craft porter beer but it still cost more than a beer in the
ground. I have also had beer in a couple of the bars and pubs around the Riverbank and North Terrace and they were not that much cheaper than drinking in the ground. If you are going to pay $8.50 to $9 a pint you may as well drink at the ground.
People suggesting venues in the CBD do not really appreciate what we have lost. The GDV virtually emulated what we had at Alberton. An easily accessible bar during, before and after the game with cheap beer where the bulk of the profit went back to the PAFC. Emulating that is no easy task.
