This is from a neautral who has watched alot of melbourne footy over the past 2 or 3 years.
I want to firstly touch on your game plan. As we all know rather then getting the forward half turnovers the plan is to turn the ball over in your defensive 50 then break at pace.
I'm no where near as intelligent as Bailey, none of us are but their are simply imo a couple of fundermental weaknesses with this plan.
Firstly well drilled, skillful sides once they get the footy in their attacking half will hit targets, that is why their infact the better sides. Secondly you then need to go coast to coast to kick your goals. Sides who play quality presses make it bloody hard to pin point out of defense and with your smallish forwards you are forced to hit pin point targets. From a novice as myself i would of thought it was even more paramount with this forward set up to put pressure in your half and create the forward of centre turnovers, hence giving you more space to deliver the footy but also using the foot speed of your forwards to cause turn overs.
Now on to Davey. I think Bailey needs to make a statement this week and Davey being in the leadership could be that statement. In the first quarter it was a blatant lack of work ethic which led to the domination West Coast had. Davey was by far not the only culprit but it is time he makes a statement now to the group that you need to lay tackles, you need to pressure the opposition and you need to run both ways. Davey did none of this tonight.
Finally Frawley, i may be crazy harsh on Frawley infact i am being crazy harsh on him but i think he deserves it. I know he has had a limited pre season but again the amount of times i saw him simply standing still rather then either chasing or getting to the closest man available with in a contest was astounding and pre season or not the quality of player he is should not be aloud to get away with that.
