In all honesty does anybody know what our game plan revolves around??

If you look at the top teams, they have a distinct game plan which they play out week in week out.

There is no structure to our forward line and our midfield is a mess, but at least our backline is looking solid enough

We spent the whole night kicking to contests and they spent the whole night hitting up targets so obviously something was wrong.
That's not quite fair. We spent at least half the night kicking it over/in front of/to the side of/nowhere near our own players. I reckon our DE kicking to Hawks players was higher than kicking to our own.

Thats because most of the time they weren't looking where they were kicking it, they just bombed in hope. Pav was one of the biggest culprits of this.

i think harvs thinks it's very clever and effective having absolutely no forward structure at all. i can only hope this game is a wake up call. then again theres not much we can do with our kicking when no one actually wants the ball and work for it. we were very happy to jog around pretending to be busy and acting like a team of johnsons. how many passes were to flat footed players?

Our game plan for 2011:
1. Kick it long to Sandi
2. Mundy clears the packs
3. Ballas & Hill takes the game on and run it through the corridor
4. Keplar leads, marks and kicks goals

Since the Port game when we lost Sandi we haven't been the same and have been filling holes and injuries have screwed getting the best 22 out on the park.

The recent 'Game Plan' has been:
1. Get rid of ball before being tackled by bombing it long (Swan/Judd style)
2. Load up Fyfe with 20 players to carry on his shoulders

How bad were we today with the kick ins!!! Pav had to step in and take the last few.

Hard to tell. Early on in the season it looked like we weren't playing as offensive as last year.

There's alot of kicking it long along the boundary line. Would rather we chipped it around Cuddles style tbh. No point building our team around disposal if we aren't going to use it.

Not having Sandi makes such a huge difference to our game plan, it's kind of built around him.

Last week against The Eagles, when we had an uncontested kick out of our own 50, (mark, free kick, behind, etc.) we invariably kicked down the right hand, (looking forward) boundary line. It became so bloody obvious that the Eagles didn't even bother tagging Freo players standing on the left flank.

So did we mix things up a bit and surprise The Eagles by kicking to our guys on the left flank, who would have had so much time they could have gone for a round of golf before taking their mark!

No...

Result... We didn't win last week.

This week... Did we do exactly the same thing again?

Yes...

Result... We didn't lose by 1 point. We lost by 51...

Hats off to The Hawthorn Football Club for coming up with a cunning plan to somehow figure out our secret game plan.

Its all about creating space in forward line hoping to catch opponents out on the fast break.
All opposition has to do is not get sucked up the ground by our forwards an make sure theres always 2 back to make sure this cant happen.
Then we struggle to hit up short targets an bomb it long(as per gameplan) an ofcourse we are outnumbered an it comes straight back.

But looks like our midfield structures is almost as bad as our forward line plans.
The amount of times opponents just waltz away with little pressure is unbelievable.
Yet when we finally shark a tap an look like getting a clearance the opposition has people in place to defend it an put a stop to it.
Where do all our midfielders go?
None seem to attack the ball to win it, yet none seem to ever be setup in the right positions to block off opposition clearances.

Think from memory we won the 1st 2 centre clearances of the game while Pav was forward.
Then Pav goes into midfield an Hawks start winning every clearance an never looked back.

They obviously hit up the Weagles for the know how:rolleyes:

without sandi it is without a doubt the worst game plan ever, which makes it worse that it relys on a single player.

If i can sit in the crowd and dictate where to ball will go about 15 secs before it does something is wrong. The ibbo kick outs were 90% going long to clarke/fyfe which was so obvious is was laughable. Our forward line leads not often and is barely hit on the lead due to our kick going high and long to packs EVERY TIME
, this isnt just about last night, this has been happening in the dry

our forward line just does not work , harvey goes with a mobile forward that never takes marks and it just comes back out over and over again. the points for dont lie, we need a solid forward line that will actually kick a winning score, tbh i would kill for the eagles forward line with maybe balla and mayne , but u cant have a forward line of mcphee de boer mayne palmer and barlow *thats how it lined up on 3 different occasions* and expect to actually take a mark and get an easy goal/s

the game plan is slow, and around the boundary, the times we took it down the middle last night actually work , i felt sorry for our backline and fyfe cause they do there job fantastically and up the feild and in the box is letting them down .

we allowed them to have two behind the ball

one of them was shaun burgoyne for most of the night

they were able to put enough pressure on us around the stoppages and we bombed it straight down their throats

they then were able to transition the ball inside 50 easily from there

the game was lost 20 mins into the first quarter - but you would have thought with the wind in the second term our tactics would have been a bit more offensive!

'We have to fight': Harvey

By Nathan Schmook 10:38 PM Sat 30 Jul, 2011

FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey has lamented his players' inability to stick to team structures
after a disappointing 51-point loss to Hawthorn on Saturday night saw the side's finals chances plunge. .....................

Does Harvs mean all or some of the players?
Is there anyone who sticks out? Fyfe Silvagni and Broughton can hold their heads high.

Just because Fyfe an Broughton got alot of the ball doesnt mean they were sticking to structures.
They could of been going ball chasing when they were sposed to be setup defensively somewhere.

It was some of the dumbest footy I have witnessed from what should have been a competitive game, given difficult conditions. We should have kept it low scoring and stick to basics and try and snatch a win in the last with the wind.

Quarter 1 : trying to long bomb into a 50knot wind. Hawks drop 2 players 10m in front of forwards. Uncontested chest mark over and over again.

Hawks kick long with the breaze and kick goal after goal.

Quarter 2 : we kick short sideways, backwards, try handballing to running players in wet wet shite conditions. We cough it up and Hawks pin up short targets into the wind and kick goals.

Further insult to the fans comes with the obsession of playing the boundary with such an advantageous breeze - utter stupidity. Long kicks down the corridor with the wind.

We gave that game in before the bounce.

It was pretty clear tonight that we tried to play on at every opportunity, and for the most part it worked.

Our forward line looked alot more dangerous because the ball was moved in their quickly.

Could have been we played that way to negate St Kildas zone, or perhaps it marks a bit of a shift in how we're going to play for the rest of the season.

Guess we'll find out next week.
